I was trying to head off the dirty pics jokes…sheesh… Though If there ARE NSFW pics…
Amen. There are few things in porn that bore me faster than a cameraman who shoots nothing but closeups. Pull that camera back and show me the whole woman.
“I’m going to get medieval on your buttocks.” (from the movie Gump Fiction)
As to the OP’s question, I like shaved bare up through “neatly trimmed”. I don’t like “disco bush” (love that term, Diosa!)
Could the fanatical bush defenders be that way, because it makes it harder for people to see how diseased they are down there
Well, its an escallation on the paedophile angle.
Speak for yourself, I was thinking more like an Airbus. There should also be a control tower style shave :D.
Okay, now I’m curious as to why someone would ever do this. I’d think it would be easier and a lot better to merely buzz it off with a trimmer…done. Hell, with no guard you can get a damn close shave, not perfect, but also not this nightmare, though touch up may still be needed.
[sniffles, tears of joy] At least someone appreciates my humor, even though the punchline was missed.
If I had the dough, I’d laser, too, and yes, I have waxed. In fact, even before this thread was started I was planning to go after work today, depending on how far I can make today’s paycheck last.
If I can’t, I’ll trim, since, as Bosstrain implied, it’s way easier. Safer, too. I think I probably threw away the guard entirely.
(I have some, ah, festivities planned for this weekend.)
I never imagined a discussion of the various appearances of women’s pudenda could get boring and tiresome.
There’s something seriously wrong here.
No, my question is: Those of you who claim that shaving makes women look like little girls: Why are you so familiar with what little girls’ genitals look like?
I don’t have to jump through all of those hoops when shaving, either. I have that razor that you use in the shower, that comes with moisturizing soap pre-attached. I just run it over myself - I use the same razor everywhere. I do it standing up, without any issues, and it works great. I need to trim a little later around the, ahem, folds, but beyond that I don’t need a cold compress or burny stuff or anything - smooth as silk.
I have to protest about the suggestions for laser! I am going to get my upper lip lasered in the next few months. (I have super sensitive skin there and everything burns me). It’s a $150 a session - not cheap! And I may need 3-6 sessions. I am willing to do it just for this one place because it’s so sensitive and because it’s my face. I’d never spend the money elsewhere.
And I totally cannot wax. I had my armpits waxed once, when I was fifteen. They hurt for a month, and I cursed my cousins (who made me do it) that whole time. Ugh.
I don’t ever get razor burn, though. That may just be distinctive to my skin.
As pointed out my hair all over is getting thinner as I grow older - the hair on my legs is nearly gone, except for my lower calves. I think that’s just normal.
But I also have a tattoo, and so I know I will be HORRIFIED when I see how horrible it will look when I am eighty. Not. I will look back and say “Damn, I am a sweet, nice sensitive woman and I was tough enough to get a tattoo in an incredibly sensitive place (inner wrist) and it was NO BIG DEAL”. Same with the hair or lack thereof - if it all goes away, except my head, why the heck would I complain? I’d be like YAY! And “vulvas get less cute with age?” Sorry, Stoid, but wtf? I am not putting it on display except to a very small subset of people, and I think it’s pretty either way, which is what is most important anyway.
I’d rather live my life the way I enjoy it now and not worry about when I am eighty, too much anyway.
I hate to be a negative nancy, but whoever told you that you’ll need 3-6 sessions is lying to you. If your laser person told you that, you need to look into going elsewhere. The laser may work that fast on a super white person with dark hair, but the darker your skin is, generally the longer it takes (something to do with the laser not being able to so directly target the hair). Also, I hope you checked with your laser person that they have the new, special laser that’s for darker skin (it wasn’t until recently that this came into being-- old lasers would scar anyone but the whitest of white people).
Just for comparison’s sake: I’ve had. . .six treatments now? On my underarms and crotch. There’s still hair. It’s much more fine and grows MUCH slower than before (and some parts are flat out patchy), but I will need 12+ treatments before things are mostly gone.
Laser can be very expensive, except for the company I use (which I actually PM’ed purplehorseshoe about, but since you brought it up. . .). The place I use is called Simplicity Laser and as far as I know, they are only in Utah and Nevada right now. They treat laser treatments as a volume business— whereas most laser places charge the prices you’re talking about (or more), Simplicity is totally different. You sign an 18 month contract and during that time, you can have as many treatments as you need- plus free life time touchups. Everything is done in a doctor’s office, so it’s not like you’re in some dude’s basement :D. Anywho, you pay a monthly fee, based on what you want done-- upper lip is $12, full Brazilian is $60 or so, underarms are $18 I think. If you pay up front, you get 20% off. So, while my Brazilian would normally be $1080 through them, I only paid $864. That sounds like a lot, but I was spending about $500 a year on waxing (and I go to a cheap place), so this basically pays for itself before the treatments are even done. This means that, paid up front, your 18 months of lip treatments would be $173.
I realize the place I go to is kind of innovative-- I think their business plan is sort of like: hey, we already own the lasers, so let’s get as many people in as possible. A Brazilian laser appointment takes about 10 minutes, so you can imagine how many folks they can see throughout the day. Your lip would take less than a minute. AND at the location I go to (there are two in Las Vegas, but I go to a specific one because. . .) they have the special laser for darker skin.
My point is: I know you live in NY, so this same place isn’t likely there. BUT, if you look around, there may be someone with a similar business model you may be able to take advantage of. I would have never gotten laser if it was the $3000-$6000+ people were quoting me prior to finding Simplicity.

Preach it, sister!
Well, we’re still working out the final details. I am going for my first appointment on Tuesday, which is just to see how dark I’ve gotten over the summer. But the skin on my face is actually very light. And it’s just my upper lip, so it’s not like there’s that much hair. I’ll check with her re the new special laser, but I researched her pretty well and like what I’ve seen so far.
It’s more the hair to skin ratio. For me, I’ve got darker skin with medium brown hair, so because there isn’t a huge distinction, it’s harder for the laser. If your skin is lighter and your hair is, say, back, it’ll be much easier. I guess it takes an eternity for blond hair on brown skin.
I’d specifically ask what percentage of the hair will be gone after 6 treatments. My understanding is that 6 treatments leaves you with about 70% of the hair gone.
This, to me, is like having the waiter at Morton’s Steakhouse ask me how I like the garnish on my plate prepared. I’m there for steak, not garnish. I don’t watch porn for the pubic hair or lack thereof.
I will ask her, on Tuesday, I promise . The hair on my upper lip isn’t very heavy, but it is indeed black, while my skin tone is at most coffee with lots of cream. I wouldn’t even care if the hair wasn’t BLACK and shows up so much.
I originally went to see her in May, and we had a nice long consultation in which she was very forthcoming with everything, but told me we’d have to wait until after the summer (to see how much I’ve tanned). So Tuesday is merely the followup to see if my skin is ready for the laser.
As a nudist who has seen more than a few vulvas, both bushy and smooth, on ladies in their 20s to ladies in their 70s, I will have to strenuously disagree with this opinion. Since the nudist community tends to lean more demographically toward the 70s age bracket than the 20s, my opinion on older vulvas is based on a meaningful sample size, statistically speaking.
My personal preference is “well groomed”. It doesn’t matter if they’re shaved or just trimmed. The least attractive choice is to do nothing, which gives me the impression that the lady considers her genitals as something “down there” that doesn’t deserve the same attention and grooming that the rest of her body does.
For those of you that think grooming and/or shaving on a regular basis is a major inconvenience, I agree. But, it makes for some great foreplay (hint, hint).
A friend of mine once wrote that she’d take up waxing her triangle when men would wax their own junk. So I did it, on a kind of self-dare and to show her up.
Once.
Since then, I don’t expect girls to do it either - ouch. Long as we’re not talking Amazonian junglescape, we’re good.
As for porn, don’t much care either way. Is there a girl in it ? Is she getting fucked ? Does it look like she’s enjoying herself ? Good 'nuff.
Is her cute roommate there also? Bonus.
Aw. That was going to be my question.
Yeah, he is.
I’m wondering how much of this is cultural.
I live in Sweden. My 9.5 year relationship ended last year so since then, well, I’ve been investigating other ladies. Not a massive amount, but I’ve been naked with a number of them and not a single one has been shaved. These are all normal, everyday women aged from 25 to 33. Not a single one shaved. Trimmed I have seen, but every single one has had some degree of hair down there.
If my girlfriend asked me for my preference, if it were completely up to me, I would say “bare”, but I wouldn’t press at all. I would unpromptedly encourage her to trim – that’s where I would do what could be described as pressing. This is largely about aesthetics (and somewhat about not wanting hair in my mouth), but so little of the porn I, ahem, would keep available if I were interested in such things is visual that I doubt the aesthetic preference is directly due to that. In any case, I wouldn’t give her any ultimata on the issue. I’m more interested in the gestalt anyway. As for myself, I trim.
I have no real preference, aesthetic or otherwise, regarding other body hair. Legs, pits, I don’t even pay attention. To hirstuteness at least. Typing that reminds me of a Lenny Bruce bit.
I suspect a majority of people don’t really care, and people who do care – especially people who specifically prefer disco bush, but really everyone with a preference – seek out porn for that.
