A first date at Yaoi Con would be memorable.
(BTW, I’m totally jealous.
I really wish I could attend and check out the bookstores in SF. Maybe next year…)

So you’re a gentlewoman in search of a gentleman?
Or indeed a gentlegeek in search of a gentlegeek?
And how is your search of the Emerald Isle and beyond progressing?
And what a lovely mug it is.
We shall definitely consume meat and beer sometime in the near future.
I’ll throw out one last plug for tomorrow night’s Games Nights for any Pittsburgh-area nerds. If you’re interested in going, send me an e-mail. The company will be good; the jokes will be bad; the gamesmanship will be skilled and vicious. On any given Games Night, ages range from 20s to 70s. I’ll be bringing Strawberries Bonaparte, a confection involving puff pastry, pastry cream, and strawberries, and I’m going to try a variation involving chocolate and chocolate chips. I’m looking for ideas for the third.
I’ll also e-mail the woman running the thing a link to this thread along with my RSVP so she’ll know who these strange people who might be turning up are, although I have talked about you folks before.
Of course, catsix does seem to have cornered the market on eligible male nerds around here, but I never have been good at surrendering!

We’ll ignore I’m coming late to the party and applaud the fact I’m here at all. Under 100 posts and she’d trying to find a date. . . the nerve.
22 (almost 23) SWF in the San Francisco Bay Area. 5"11 hour glass figure. Nerd of the book worm persuasion, especially history and social studies. Plays video games for fun. Would like to learn more about anime. Fan of classic BTVS, ST:NG, and horror novels. Cat lady in training. Addicted to movies of all genres. Not really expecting anything but someone to talk to but hey, what’s the harm.
I’m pretty much right smack in the middle of the state. I been up around Dubuque a time or two, nice area, especially around the river. (poor soul? It’s not as if you have to pass the black gate to get in, heck we don’t even have a single volcano
)
Much better now that the weekend has begun.
Not at all, we wouldn’t want an accident or anything, no use getting anyone injured. Though really your first post sounds as if you have no problem with doing either interesting or fun. However I must admit that the one time I played paintball I managed to injure myself, so you may be on to something there.
So, dare I ask what I Am Happy Bunny is?
Off to watch Princess Bride DVD for some good lines.
Heya Pucks. If anyone cares to chat, my AIM name’s right there. Feel free!
Allright, here we go, modern-day picture of yours truly. Pic!
[Elephant Man]Disclaimer : I am not an animal. I am a human being.[/Elephant Man]
That should be okay with my schedule. I’ll keep an eye on MPSIMS so I don’t miss any announcements.
Awwww… come on, you know you wanna be…

Just as an aside (Gingy and I are in league together), Juniper’s more attractive than those pictures let on (even the last one. Damn, girl). Feels good, too[sub]hugged her, nothing more[/sub]. She gets an A+ from me, but then I ain’t certified no more since I up’n found me a Tolkien girl.
[sub]There really ought to be a “flirting, dating and sex tips” forum, or something along those lines.[/sub]
Since I was just out there about a week ago (!), my next trip down will be in June - probably in the middle-end of June, so that we have time to make some progress before our next check-in with the client. I’ll be sure to let you know what date as soon as it’s set, but our meetings are usually on Fridays.
As to Bond - I really sort of “grew up” with Roger Moore as Bond, so his movies are my sentimental favorites. Live and Let Die tops the list; then there’s The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only. A View to a Kill is not the best of the lot, but Christopher Walken is always a treat, plus a Bond girl is actually a geologist!
Thanks to TNT and 007 Week I finally got to seeing Sean Connery at work. My fave Connery ones are From Russia With Love and Diamonds Are Forever, with You Only Live Twice as a close third.
After that… Timothy Dalton IMHO should never have been Bond. And while I like Pierce Brosnan very much, it seems his movies have gotten more into the “oooo special effects” category that I would have liked. Still, I did enjoy Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies.
And believe it or not, there are a few I haven’t yet seen! Thunderball, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The Man With the Golden Gun, Octopussy… But I’d be up for seeing any of them, frankly. Bond is always fun.
You know, it’s really not nice to tease someone like that, av8rmike.
Ah don’t worry Siege, I can only handle one (or two) nerds at a time.
I think Pittsburgh’s nerd-density is higher than 2 per 50 square miles.
Besides, they haven’t met me in person yet and figured out that the camera creates illusions.
(poor soul? It’s not as if you have to pass the black gate to get in, heck we don’t even have a single volcano )
I kid, I kid
As a Minnesotan, Iowa jokes spew without even trying. (hangs head, looks at Etherman from under her eyelashes) I’ll try to behave.

I am by no means Rambo on the field. But it is a (usually) relatively painless way to get out one’s frustrations. My primary difficulty is, well, my lack of grace despite upteen years of dance. If there is something to trip over, knock myself on, crash into- there I am.
So, dare I ask what I Am Happy Bunny is?
This is Happy Bunny. I’ve managed to retain my “You suck and must be punished” lanyard for a while now without my boss saying anything. It’s an accomplishent. Between Happy Bunny and LilHomies, my faux-office otherwise drives her bonkers. Yes, that IS the point. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job. The issue my boss and I have is, well, we’re too much alike. She finds perverse pleasure in breathing down my neck, and I find perverse pleasure in walking that fine line between dutiful employee and insubordinate.
Off to watch Princess Bride DVD for some good lines.
“Have fun storming the castle!”
Language nerd - self-instructed in seven languages, going on eight - working on Arabic now. Passion for reading untranslated literature and newspapers.
I’m too young (17) to be legal for any of the posters in this thread
, but [hijack] I was just curious how that Arabic is going? I’m currently attempting to teach myself Arabic as well, and already speak a fair amount of Spanish. [/hijack]
Yes. Yes, you did. Now if it were a giant cardboard cutout of a wiwaxia… yer still cool tho
In my defense (as much you can defend having a giant cardboard cutout of Buffy in your living room), it wasn’t my idea. My dad bought it for me. I can’t think I would have ever bought it my own self, but it’s a pretty funny (and geeky) conversation piece.
Hey Kyla, If you don’t mind my asking, how long have you volunteered at the Field? And What department do you volunteer for?
Before going off to school I volunteered for the Education department, so - who knows? - we may even have met.
While I’m at it, I should throw in a picture of myself. It’s about a year and a half old. I should warn viewers that, while I am 40, this frequently comes as a surprise to people.
I wasn’t planning on posting here, just because I’m not so much a nerd, more of a dork. But then I saw Sunspace’s photo.
Wow, were you seperated at birth, perhaps? If you put on 70 pounds you’d look just like my brother-in-law. It’s a little eerie, the resemblance. You also have bluer eyes than he, but overall the resemblance is incredible.
(BTW, this is certainly a complement. I’ve always considered my BIL a good looking guy, he’s only put on all the weight since he married my sister. Maybe that marriage/weight thing is not so much a myth.)
Since I’m posting anyway . . .I’m a SWF, 31, 5’10", Buck-Sixty (and dropping). I have brown, straight hair, a little past shoulder lenghth. Blue eyes and glasses, because I have a hard time with the idea of sticking things in my eyes. I’m a bartender by trade, hell, probably career. I drink and smoke regularly. 13 years out of high-school and I’m a college sophomore, or was when I quit the last time.
As I said, I’m not much of a nerd or geek. I can barely run the computer I own, and I’m constantly frustrated because I can’t figure out how to do the things that I know this machine can do. Tutors are certainly welcome.
I am, however, a Dork. I watch baseball religiosly, play Fantasy Baseball (altho, not well). I’m a die-hard Cubs fan. I collect baseball cards. I like Friends and Seinfeld. I don’t get into Buffy, although I’ve tried. I don’t like rap music, but don’t mind country–I was raised with it. I listen to crap like MB20 and DMB, and yes, occasionally NPR. I guess I’m the odd-ball around here.
I live in New Mexico now, but will be moving to Chicago sometime this late summer (solely to be closer to the Cubs–crazy, I know, but that’s what makes me happy).
ISO a SM who’s got a good sense of humor and will tolerate a MLB obsession, hopefully someone taller than I.
SWM, 20, college student at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. I like computer games (particularly FPS and “Action RPG” games like Deus Ex), science fiction (right now my poison is Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan series), movies, the outdoors, anime, RPGs (mostly D20, but I’ve played some White Wolf WoD), and all kinds of tabletop games.
Seeking warm, affectionate, geeky SF with a good sense of humor who likes to game.
I’ll most likely be at Origins (in Columbus, OH) this year. If you want to me, feel free to get in touch via IM or email. My screen names are on my LJ user page.

Hey Kyla, If you don’t mind my asking, how long have you volunteered at the Field? And What department do you volunteer for?
Before going off to school I volunteered for the Education department, so - who knows? - we may even have met.
I just started a few months ago - I’m a Sue volunteer. They recently changed the status of all the volunteers, so everyone now is under HR, not Education, although only newbies like myself have correctly labelled IDs. I think it’s funny that my pass says I volunteer in HR - I feel like I ought to be filing things in a cabinet somewhere. I was supposed to go into but I are sick. Bah.
