Single Doper and Nerd Hookup Thread and Cotillion

What, is every man in California taken??? What the heck are gals like RainGrowsBrite and I to do?

Any of you bastards move to within a 4 hour drive of San Diego, let me know. Until then, I’ll be over here in the corner nurturing my own brand of geekiness.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Hey RainGrowsBright, before you get the old “how you doin?”, I have to ask…were the tears at the end of Friends perchance, tears of joy?!? If not, I suppose it can be overlooked, due to your love of Monty Python and the Big Lebowski quote.

Well, you could…

No, no… must be good, must be good.

And now to make a total fool of myself…

Single white male, 37, very tall, never even managed so much as a kiss, moderately geeky, seeks single 30ish female of gentle persuasion with a nice smile and sparkling eyes. As long as all the right bits are in the right places and of roughly proper proportions, it’s the woman inside that’s important.

I will put in a lil personal ad later, but for now I need to respond to this:

How nerdy does it make me that I want to add this:

One night in Straight Dope makes the nerds go horny
The dopes are funny but the posts ain’t free

now back to studying for my abnormal psych final

Ah the Big Lebowski…

‘Also Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian American, Dude.’

You are so losing points for not writing that as a Perl CGI.

:stuck_out_tongue:

HTML? C’mon dude, it’s time to step up with the big dogs and learn some serious languages.

You could move to the East Coast where single guys like myself can take you out and shower you with gifts.

Aw, Frank’s all the way on the other side of the state.

Why do so many guy geeks live in Philadelphia area?

Oh yeah, the Pittsburgh job market is fairly shitty.

BTW, CandidGamera, if you are here, check your e-mail.

Perl? Feh. I should make a MySQL database with my stats, and use PHP to suck the data onto a dynamic Web page.

I did say that I was running Libranet Linux, right? You know, I have to check out Ikea in the Pitt …

Because of good public TV that shows stuff like Fawlty Towers, Dr Who, Red Dwarf, & the Red Green Show?

I will be going to the PADope gathering in Gettysburg on June 19. Stop out and say hi, as they will be plenty of single geeks for you to persue.

/me gapes at CrazyMonkey’s post.

Now that’s nerdy!

I’d like to hear some details on this particular brand of geekiness. Because I’ve seen scout’s pictures on LiveJournal, and if those pictures even remotely do her justice, she’s a major cutie!

C’mon, catsix, don’t you know XML when you see it? I didn’t know there was a GeekCode dialect though…

Mmm… Sounds great.

get me out of this humidity get me out of this humidity, er, I mean, Hi!

I would not do well in Bangkok, I just know it.

SWM, 30, SF Bay Area.

My geek cred? Well, I’m playing in the Magic: The Gathering pro tour this weekend (which just happens to be in San Diego… scout1222 and RainGrowsBrite should take note if they’re looking for a venue with a truly hilarious excess of single geeky guys).

Also:
-I write video games for a living.
-The summer after 7th grade, we took a family vacation to Europe. Each family member got to pick one place in Europe they most wanted to visit. I picked Legoland. I stand by that choice. (Speaking of which, I have the enormous Lego Imperial Star Destroyer in my living room.)
-I own the box set of My So Called Life on DVD
-On August 29, 1997, I hosted a Terminator 2-watching party
-I’ve seen the movie Wayne’s World so many times that I actually wore out the first videotape of it I owned
-I have Bridge Master Points
PS: Draelin: Bring it!
-I conducted the pit orchestra for my college’s production of Pippin
-I frequently post on the SDMB, and for my 1,000th post, I asked 100 super-tough trivia questions

Ack. The PS was supposed to be at the end of that post, and was in reference to Trivial Pursuit. (You’d think a geek like me would know how to format an SDMB post… sheesh.)

Oh it’s lovely. Huge and lots of furniture and there’s some really nice restaurants right near it if the Ikea cafeteria is not to your lik…

I’d be happy to show you around. I promise I am not a scary person and I have never been an old guy who retired to Florida.

I don’t write it, so to me it looks like HTML. I speak C, C++, Perl, Java, VHDL, 80x86 asm, 6811 asm, a wee bit of SQL and I’m working on PHP.

Isn’t Legoland great, Max? I finally made the Great Pilgimage to Billund in 2000 (it only took me 35 years to get there), and it was worth every crown. I can even describe how to get there on the bus!

I still have all my Legos…

:: bows before superior geek language cred ::

I was wondering what I had to bring to see Pippin. And next time I’m in California, you’re on!
