Single Doper and Nerd Hookup Thread and Cotillion

I’ll play, too.

Geeky married WM, 42, not looking but always interested in flirting with potential future ex Mrs VunderBobs, living in the Virginia Tidewater area.

Geek qualifications: 2 engineering degrees, and will be starting a third within the next calendar year. I like model railroading, building robots, photography, he-man outdoor activities, and martial arts. I also work for the ultimate geeky government agency as an engineer.

I also have a teenaged son who is a budding geek. He shows signs of becoming an engineer, likes RPG and video games, and is a lot smarter academically than his grades demonstrate.

How about it, femgeeks? Got a 2fer here!

OOoooooOoooooOOOOo, Scuba, you naughty fellow. You downright knavish gent!

Thanks!

Man, I’m in the wrong state to be a nerd.

“Nerdlite”- yeah, I like that. I’m not a geek, but I AM one o’ those book readers, as I’ve been called.
Of course, I live within the confines of Hell, so if you don’t like the heat…
5’4, 140 lbs of luscious curves, shortish red hair, large expressive green eyes, skin so soft it’ll make you cry. 35 years of age, German-English-Welsh descent.
Likes: any music except rap and country. Books, of course, of any kind. Some TV-especially Alias and Chapelle’s Show. Outdoor activites, at least when it’s not 100 degrees out. Family=#1. Highly affectionate and fun-loving.
Photo available upon request.

Hey, I just had a thought!!
If this doesn’t work out for me, maybe Shakes will feel sorry for me and throw me a bone… after all, I haven’t had a date in months, so I must be a real loser!

:: breaks into sweat ::

So, how you doin’?

I’ve always wanted to visit the Southwest, especially when you folks are showing as above room temperature on the weather map when it’s twenty below in Toronto… and I’ve never seen a desert either. Except from the air. It is a dry heat, is it not?

Yes, Sunspace it IS a dry heat, except for monsoon season… the other 10 months of the year, humidity’s like 10%. The sun sits 12 feet away from the earth here, but at least it’s not humid. So come on out, I’ll leave the light on for ya
Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind visiting Canada, either…

Good enough for me. The rest is gravy. So, how you doin’?

:: claps with glee ::
ahem
Er, thank you, ma’am. Monsoons? Are you speaking of a LOT of rain? BTW, everyone I’ve spoken to who’s been to the Southwest mentions the beauty of the sky and the colours of the land.

Well, you’d be welcome. We do need an excuse for a TronnaDope. It’s finally Realy Truly Spring here, with breathtaking summerlike weather yesterday (27C, clear blue sky… sigh). Two weeks ago it was snowing. <shudder>

I’ve tried this before, to no avail, but what the hell, right?

Stable but adventurous 32-year-old male in Hernando County, FL (north of Tampa). Never been married, no kids (don’t want any), no pets, no baggage. I own a house, drive a nice vehicle, live debt-free (except the house and car, of course), have a good job with good pay, stand up straight, look people in the eye, say “please” and “thank you,” have passable social skills, pay my bills on time and generally have everyone fooled into thinking I’m a responsible adult. I’m very laid back and don’t get stressed about much of anything. I have a sense of humor about everything and I’m guaranteed to make you laugh at least once a day. I’m not in the best of shape but I’m working on that, going to the gym about 5 times a week. I know a lot about a few things and a little about almost everything and can hold an intelligent conversation on almost any topic.

Interests: Computers, electronics, radio, aviation, nature/wildlife, geocaching, music (I pretend to play guitar sometimes), hydroponics, alternative energy, the paranormal and other weirdness (I’m skeptical, but open-minded about such things). I love being on, in or around water and hope to own a boat at some point.

Geek credentials: Extensive. Heh… Been programming computers since age 10. Worked with Linux since 0.99pl13 was the current kernel (10 years or so - since before the web existed). I’ve been into electronics and radio since I was 8. I can quote Monty Python at length, but no longer feel the need to in most situations. I’m a big fan of authors ranging from Douglas Adams to Robert Anton Wilson. I like science fiction (am I the only one here who can’t help but read “sci-fi” as “skiffy?”) but I’m not addicted to it. I read a lot these days. The list goes on and on…

I like women of all shapes and sizes. If you’re smart and fun, hey, we’d probably get along. I’m very good at monogamy but I’m open to polyamorous relationships, too.

Monsoons. Yep, it can rain ALOT. From around July 4th to around Labor Day, it’ll storm really bad most every afternoon. Flash floods, lightning, the whole bit. It sucks when you have to drive in it, but other than that it’s wonderful. It’s truly an experience in and of itself. It takes a couple years, but most people come to love the desert. It’s known as the “living desert” because there’s lots of plants and small trees.
June would be a good time to get outta here, though. HATE June!! Every single day, same blue cloudless sunny sky, hot as hell, and DRY as a bone.
I’ve been thinking of asking for an Arizodope … do we ever have those? Anybody?

Ah, MST3K … I still need to get some of those Comedy Central episodes.

I can see there are many qualified nerdettes on this board, though. And some even available! Glad I decided to come out of my shell. ::drum-sting::

Gosh, I wonder how I add up against all you other “true geeks”. I feel unworthy!

I’m not looking but: Japanese male, 26, from Toronto, Canada medium-slim build 5’6".

Reads Terry Pratchet, almost exclusively with a little Dragon Lance, Star wars and Star Trek novels mixed in. I love Calvin and Hobbes and have all of the released books by the author. I have a massive DVD collection including Anime which I like to watch in the original Japanese.

I’m also an ex-RPG gamer (GURPS and AD&D) with interests all over the place. I paintball, shoot bows, roller blade. I’m a car geek and have raced on tracks (legally) and some auto-x. I have a “M” class license but no bike - yet. I also want to get into SCUBA diving within the next 6 weeks.

Picture might be available upon request but there is a MPEG of me racing my Matrix oinline

Glad to hear it. Are you going to go to PADope? If so, definitely see you there. If not, maybe we could geek out sometime.

Hot damn, and I didn’t even have to post a photo of my cleavage!

Baltimore? That’s not so far, and I haven’t been there in a while. Perhaps after car booboo is fixed, we should have some dinner or lunch or something. I don’t work Fridays, and I itch for road trips to meet fun peoples.

Yup, and there is a single nerdette directly north of you.

I might as well throw myself out there… although Im not sure what I can offer up as my geek creds…

SWF, tall (5’10), San Diego, CA. Long, very straight light brown hair, big brown eyes. I’m slender… I think Im about 145ish in lbs, which isnt alot considering my height!!!

Some basics: I have big feet which are constantly sporting sandals of all sorts. I wear skirts constantly because its impossible to find pants long enough. I work as a Buyer for a surf/skate company- I love my job, its fun! I have recently gotten addicted to the SDMB. I drink and smoke when I drink…

Geek creds?? Hmm… I am a big reader. Im always reading several books at a time. My geek creds run broader than they do deep. I love everything. Computers, all kinds of music,I am addicted to movies, Monty Python, Science Fiction, Fearie Tales… Theres alot more that I want to dig into… I love to draw odd things and have been quite dissapointed that Elfwood.com is down right now. Also, I cried my eyes out when FRIENDS ended (probably one of my geekier moments  )

Would that be the Central PA Dopefest? I honestly hadn’t been paying attention to that thread, but I’ll look into it. … Okay, back. June 19th in Gettysburg, eh? This will require some old-fashioned cogitating. I’ll get back to you.

And geeking out is always good. Feel free to e-mail me via my profile.

Sure thing, e-mail.

Just let me VNC to my box at home so that I can SSH to my unix box which has my email on it…

Time flies! Doesn’t seem a minute
Since catsix’s UNIX box had an e-mail in it…

Okay, I have some geekish tendencies.

I am a SWF. I am 5’10. I weigh way more than I should but that is decreasing day by day. I have blue/gray eyes. uuuuummmmmm…don’t know what else to say

Damned network lag. It took me a whole 3 seconds to log in to my box at home.
