I hate to think that Ruth’s “standing” as biological grandma gives her more rights than Brenda.
If Lisa were still alive, that’d be different.
Wouldn’t Ruth have to prove Brenda was unfit? And even then, who’s to say Maya wouldn’t end up in foster care? Somebody could spin Ruth’s misadventures into unfitness pretty easily.
I’d worry about it, except that with just 75 minutes left to wrap up all these threads, the writers probably won’t devote much time to a custody fight.
I believe that with the funeral home, it depends upon how the business was set up. It likely was a partnership. Probably 1/3 each to Nate, David, and Rico. That seemed to be the case when they had their last meeting together and they couldn’t agree on anything.
The partnership agreement should have some sort of provision for dealing with a share that belongs to a deceased partner. If there wasn’t and Nate died intestate, then Brenda would get that share.
However, didn’t Ruth own a share of the home also?
Ruth bought into the business early in the series. They needed money to redo the plumbing or something and she gave it to the business in exchange for ownership.
At a later point, Rico bought in. As I recall, it was something less than 33%, maybe 20%.
I’m pretty sure that Brenda adopted Maya and if she did, she had full parental rights and there isn’t a thing anyone can do about it. If Nate is on the birth cetificate, and I am sure that he is, he was the official father, even if DNA proves otherwise.
A lot can happen in that last show. There were six weeks between the previous two episodes. Who is to say that the last episode doesn’t take place months in the future?
The characters are all pretty fucked up but they are also basically good people. I hope they end the series with all of them in a good place and at peace.
I agree. I loved that car - but then, my first car was a 1950 Cadillac hearse. My folks made me get rid of it because the neighbors were completely freaked out by the sight of it in the driveway.
According to the cable guide I use, the retrospective, Six Feet Under 2001-2005, will be shown on HBO2 today (August 16th), starting at 4:00pm (Central). It will be on the main HBO channel at 9:00am (Central) and 9:30pm (Central) Thursday, August 18th. Many more showings are scheduled throughout the month, so you’re sure to be able to see it or record it.
