Slightly delayed, my tale with a moral; this weeks MMP

I just love the moon so that colors my opinion a bit.

You have very different cats than I do MBG. I keep telling mine that their only job is bug-killing, and she just looks at me and goes back to sleep.

Ugh… Today should have been canceled. I had a seat all to myself for the entire train ride, and a whole three other people got off at my station.

Usually, the coveted window seats are all taken by the time the train is at the second stop on the line, and it’s SRO at the third stop. On a normal day, you’d think someone lit stink bombs in every car the way people pile out at the downtown stations. Not today, and I suspect it will be the same on Thursday and Friday.

If it wasn’t for those pesky pals “work ethic” and “conscience” maybe I could run a side business from here like DH’s predecessor did. This character was also a nutjob with supply purchasing. One vendor for clear tape, one for brown tape, another for bubble wrap, plus a gaggle of suppliers for the different types of boxes? Oy! DH is working to consolidate all that in order to simplify things, and also to say “Now that we’re buying more stuff from you, how about a better price?” One for copy paper, one for toner… If I heard him right, they’re currently using over 50 different companies for basic supplies. DH’s goal is to break it down into something closer to five companies.

Off to figure out how far in advance to start dosing our dog with Benadryl so the illegal fireworks don’t freak her out as badly. The stuff took a lot longer than we’d anticipated to take effect last year.

unless your cat couldn’t care less about the ugly black thing crawling across your floor. Smokey is much more interested in the shadows made by my dressing stick than in any crawly thing.

Some cats won’t hunt anything alive. Some time ago Attacks Husband and I spent a very depressing twenty minutes with Aerin and a pill bug. One of the little funny crustaceans. We sat on the floor, corralling cat and bug together. She would bat at it, it would stop moving, she would try to wander off.

It was depressing. She hunts drinking glasses and plastic bags, but nothing useful.

Pfffft - not my cat. She’ll watch bugs, maybe bat at one or get her nose close to it. Then she just walks away. Then again, Abys are rather regal - such prey is undoubtedly beneath them.

Back from the dump run. Man, did we have a lot! Three trash cans, 2 bags of cans, 2 bags of garbage, a dead dehumidifier, and a gazillion boating magazines that **FCD ** reluctantly recycled. I really didn’t care if he wanted to keep them - I just didn’t want them piled up all over the family room and living room and bedroom. He could have boxed them in the basement. But he chose to toss them.

He’s doing something noisy in the basement, and I just finished a yogurt. The critters are all fed. I may just go into the bum mode.

Whew, long day here. Later tonight (5 AM or so) our Ops guy is installing the latest and greatest version of our SW on the Client’s site – so I have to keep my cell on tonight.
Although they haven’t ever had to wake me up yet. I write pretty good code, if I say so myself

I am not even making any pretense of going over the 75 or so posts since this morning  Yays to all the happy people, {{}} to all the sad ones, and risque ripostes to all the flirters

Oh, and since it is 00:20 here – GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY!!
(one of these days they’re going to kill me. They’re really gonna kill me… )

And – Happy
Independence
Day!!

to all the 'Merkins here!

(Brits – The war is over. Deal :p)

Sean, if you have everything loaded on your computer, and you’re in BG II but have left the main city - I forget the name - you should just be able to go to your map. Somewhere on the southern part of the world if I remember correctly you should be able to go to the tower.

As for iTunes, it’s not that I don’t have space. Although that is one of the problems. it’s more that I cannot download any *.exe files, and most of the time the “Download Now” button is not functioning.

Also we’re all basically on terminals, and everything routes through the servers. So then space becomes an issue too.

Well, Papa Tigs survived his trip home; and then we put a heating pad on his arm, where he has the nasty spasms (I’m talking one knot the size of a golf ball in his tricep!  ), and then I dug out the ol’ cocoa butter cream and massaged him as well as I could, not being trained or anything. He seems much happier now, so hopefully I did a good enough job that he won’t be a complete bear this evening. Not that I wouldn’t understand if he is, needless to say!

I’m on the last pattern repeat of that Moonlight Madness shawl I showed you last week in the MMP. Which is good, because I’ve got about the next 27 projects all lined up, except that I am going to FORCE myself to complete at least one more project before starting anything new, no matter how much I want to! I have a great habit of starting projects and then getting bored with them at about 80% completion; sometimes it takes me months or years to get around to finishing them. I realize I’m not alone, but I’m still annoyed with myself about it anyway. But this is the biggest job I have to finish, so I’m not quite as mad at myself as I have been recently.

And I just realized that since our weekly recycling pickup is tomorrow morning, that means we probably won’t have a pickup this week since if they miss a day due to a holiday, they don’t do makeup runs. We’re gonna have a LOT of recycling by next week! At least we can put the trash out later Friday so we don’t end up completely inundated with that, too.

Back to knitting. Or working. Or something. Mostly being lazy, to be honest!

Firetruck! Ambulance! Since they’re moving slowly, and arrived sans lights and sirens, I’m assuming whatever it is, isn’t immediately serious. It’s the Screaming Neighbor’s house, but I think she’s still in jail.

Have a happy 4th everyone!

I’m off and I don’t like sitting in front of a computer when I’m home after sitting in front of one all day every day at work so I won’t be around. See y’all on Thursday!

Howdy y’all! We got back a little bit ago from eatin’ Mexican, again. Two nights in a row. 'Cept tonight we went to the “usual” Mexican place. Anywho, ‘twas good. I have baked beans bakin’ away and the coleslaw is made for tomorrow. To me, baked beans are one of those things that are best cooked, cooled, then refrigerated over night and reheated just before serving the next day.

Right now there’s a deep, philosophical debate ragin’ at da cave. Should we have martinis or beerverages. We like debating those timeless classics.

I’m a nervous wreck.

On the very happy side of life, meet George. He’s a Toyger and he is going to be coming to live with me. Like I really need another cat. When I heard he was being given away I had to take him.

Back to getting ready for tomorrow - ya’ll keep your fingers crossed for me, m’kay?

I found some sketty sauce in the garage freezer, so we had sketties for supper. Yum. I was hungry - a little leftover sloppy joes didn’t stick with me very long.

It’s stayed cool and loverly - I dread having to close windows again. Ah well, we’ve passed the equinox - fall’s a comin’!

Someone’s giving away a Toyger? Those things are 'spensive. Makes one wonder why they’re giving it away…

The girl who owns it is going away to college and her parents aren’t cat people, was the story I got. I will see if there are any problems with the cat; I can return him if he doesn’t work out with mine. I have my fingers crossed - he’s so beautiful!

swampy, martinis today, beerverages tomorrow. Why? Because it’s unAmerican to not drink beer on the 4th of July. See how easy that was?

SCL, I’m jealous! George looks like a very handsome fellow. Fingers crossed!

Purty kitty.

I am back from the doctor’s. Ok, so my pneumonia is only 20% better, not fully resolved. Ok. So, he says for me to NOT DO ANYTHING STRENUOUS. Ok. So, then he says, as we are wrapping up, that I can go back to work. Ok, so I say but you said not to do anything strenuous. Ok, so he says, are you out of breath? Ok, so I say, no* because I haven’t been doing anything, especially anything strenuous because I’m too tired–I’m taking naps every day.* Ok, so he says that that is my depression, not the pnuemonia, and that he will add another med. Ok, so I say NO THANKS and that I know the difference between depressed sleeping and fatigue sleeping. Ok, so–I have no medical excuse to be off work. Ok, so I have to go to work on Thursday.

I hope you all had a better afternoon than I did. (who knows, maybe getting back to work is the ticket. Who knows?)

Off to a very boring and stupid class that is NOT measuring up to the description in the brochure for classes (whatever that’s called).

Just generally grrrrr over here.

Stupid mouse keeps on clicking when I don’t want it to and closing windows mid-post! I really need to get a new one.

Hugs for rigs (get better soon!) and SCL (you’ll do great tomorrow!).

Jahdra, you have such exciting neighbors. Keep us posted!

So I’ve been keeping myself amused with OkCupid.com today. I’ve never done online dating before so I find the whole thing absurdly fascinating. Particularly the people who post semi-nude pics of themselves and send me messages that make the English teacher inside of me recoil with horror and reach for my red pen. And then there are those that display such an obvious Asian girl fetish I have to laugh. Yes, I’m flattered that you find my black silky hair  and petite Asian frame :dubious: exotic, but somehow I hesitate in basing a relationship on this. It’s fun getting all these messages, but I suspect the novelty will wear off soon. I wish the SDMB ran a dating messageboard on the side or something.

Thanks for the anecdotes and well wishes. I had a very bad dentist pull two of my wisdom teeth in '81 and I had tooth and bone splinters work their way out of my gums for years, and so have a huge fear of any dental work. I pleaded with the dentist to just pull the tooth but he insisted that my teeth are fabulous and a root canal was what he was going to do. So this morning I took my meds, including a xanax for my anxiety, and he wanted me to eat before I came in, I am a diabetic and he preferred to have my sugars on the high side rather than the low, so I had a small bowl of tapioca pudding and some orange juice. While I can’t say that it was pleasant, the immediate pain relief was fabulous. He also ground down the molar a bit, as it had been pushed down by the infection, don’t y’all just love the sound of the drill and the smell of burning tooth? The procedure took two hours, and when I came home I popped another hydrocodone and napped. I woke up when a friend came by, and have taken another. I am still numb from above my cheekbone to below my jaw, and am going to lie down and take another nap. With no insurance I was worried, but he said that I can make payments, and even gave me a $25.00 discount. As I will be in Anchorage next month waiting for my granddaughter to be born I won’t get the post and crown until September, but even with the soreness I am feeling so much better, happy happy joy joy! I will try to catch up with the MMP tomorrow, and I can’t wait to get back to posting with you guys. You are all wonderful friends, and I hope that the USA Dopers have a wonderful and safe 4th.

Love to all…smooch

See, kai? we told you everything would be fine. Glad you have a dentist you like, who’s good at what he does.
Also YAY on the pending granddaughter!

The OW has mostly gone away, but that’s only because I sat at PT with stim and ice for 20 minutes, and then only did gentle stretches. There is a lot of inflammation from the knees to the toes on both feet, so the head PT guy agreed I should probably stay in bed tomorrow with feet up, ice on, and take a Dose-pack (I’m sure kai and vbob know what that is) also I will call my surgeon Thursday and see if I can get in before the end of the month. It’s probably mostly weather related (I can already feel the increase in humidity, even tho it’s only slight) which is related to my f@#ked up immune system. whaddayergonnado?

oh! and I thought of a nickname for An Arky - Noah’s toy (since when are all our nicknames shorter than the actual screen name?)
