At least, I will be when it gets warmer. Right now it’s 71 in the house and barely 80 outside, so the windows are still open. But the fan has been replaced and the system cools. The tech said the old one just siezed up. I asked if something got into it, and he said that it’s just something that happens.
Yeah, it’s sure hard to stop that Trane…
It’s a good thing I didn’t plan to just take half a day off - I’d have never made it back.
Guess I have no excuse now to avoid those boxes of stuff.
FCM - Woohoo! You can now remain cool as a cool kid should. Although I have central air in my apartment, we are at the mercy of (supposedly) city by-laws that state that apartment building AC units cannot be turned on until June 1st. So, for those times in April and May when it got quite hot, I had to have a fan blasting straight on me to cool down when I come in from outside. I’m always so relieved when the June 1st rolls around, 'cos we can finally cool down properly.
Taxi - It’s purdy, ain’t it? I tried taking one on Victoria Day late last may, but it was a crescent moon and overexposed, so it looked like a big, glowing fingernail clipping. This time it was just beginning to wane, and it wasn’t terribly bright at the elevation I shot it at, so I was able to speed the shutter so it didn’t overexpose and get all blurry from moving the camera while I took the shot. It’s purdy 'cos you can see all of the lunar maria, and I wanted to see if my camera could pick them up.
Hank/Haze - See, that’s what I get for scrolling down and addressing everyone one-by-one as I encounter something I want/need to respond to. Perhaps I should just call you Henry for the sake of clarity…
Three boxes sorted - the trash bag and goodwill box are full. The last box is almost empty - I’ll take the stuff that goes on my dresser, and leave the stuff that belongs to **FCD ** so he can sort it. I refuse to determine what needs to be tossed from his stuff.
He was just granted 59 minutes, so he’s on his way home. YAY! I foresee a trek to the convenience center when he gets home. Good times.
MBG and others, thank you for the info on podcasts. I somehow thought they were WAY more interesting.
As for playing your iPod on a player, how much did you spend for yours? I want one, too, but the iStereo itself is not cheap - do you have a different brand? If so, does it work well?
I forget the brand, but mine was cheap enough that I bought one for the child too.
It’s a little white, donut looking ring/thing. Sounds pretty nice in my office, PLUS I took my old computer speakers and plug them into the headphone jack of the I-Pod so I have 4 speakers going at once.
I have a unit that charges the iPod as it plays - InMotion by Altec Lansing - IIRC it was about $60 - but I haven’t seen this particular model since (I bought in '05). Go to MacMall or PC Mall and search on iPod Accesories - you’ll find several - some even in your price range
I was going to go to the car wash, but the freeway was blocked, so I went to Target and the new Trader Joe’s instead. Target is having stock up sales so I grabbed 4 boxes of Kleenex for $5, Tim McGraw’s greatest hits, a t-shirt, and some other stuff. They had big bundles of TP, too, but not my brand. Entrance fee: $40.
The new TJ’s is huge. I’ve never seen a Trader Joe’s that big before. You can fit more than one cart in a aisle! Since they just opened, it was full of people gawking instead of shopping. Lots and lots of yummy food, though, including the pear gorgonzola salad I had for lunch. Entrance fee: $35.
Sorry. I must have confused you with someone else that was just starting the series.
So how do I get to the tower with all the good items? Can I detour somewhere between the town I’m in now and where I eventually have to nd the game to get there?
And iTunes vers 7.3, which I just updated to todday, takes up 89.5 MB on my harddrive her at the office.
I just spotted my first cockroach (ever since I moved to this place). I am eyeing it warily as we speak and trying to work up the nerve to slaughter it. Ew. Ewewewewew.
If the fan is older, then yeah, it does just happen. All it takes is for the fan to become a little unbalanced, and over time that will wipe the bearings and the fan will seize up.
If it’s a new fan, then someone screwed up at the factory making it, or it was damaged between the factory and the installation.
Haze There’s never only one cockroach. I’m just sayin’.
Arky your answer number two was my first guess. I may look like the poster child for middle aged straight white guys, but I bought Never Mind The Bullocks on vinyl as soon as it was available an an import back in the day, and actually planned to make a road trip to see one of their shows on the US tour (but it got concelled. Both the tour and my road trip plans.)
The only time the exterminators I use felt the wrath of da bear was when I saw a roach in my bathroom. Spiders…ok. Ants…not happy about it but I can deal. Roaches…I better not ever see a roach, that’s what I pay a monthly fee for. I was on that phone so fast demanding they come and respray right then and there and no I ain’t gonna wait til tomorrow I mean NOW! They sent somebody that day. For quite a while afterward I’d get calls wanting to know if my service is ok. Apparently they think I’m mean. Sweet lil’ ol’ me! Roaches have no excuse to be and especially have no excuse to be in da cave. I feel for ya Haze. Nasty critters!
Aside from everything swampy said about 'em, and Sean too - there’s more than one if you saw one.
But, havin’ a cat, and havin’ a bug - that’s great fun. Bugs bring out the hunter in any cat. Aaaand no nasty mess to clean up, cuz they eat what they kill.
Yeah, I’m sure there’s more where that bugger came from. What’s the best way to deal with these creatures, apart from calling an exterminator? I’m leaving this place soon anyway, but ew.
I’m actually surprised they took so long to show their ugly faces. I keep a pretty clean apartment, but it’s a basement apartment, so I was expecting vermin to be much more rife. Haven’t seen anything til this past month. Maybe because it’s summer now?
Speaking of summer, the sun seems pretty bright today. My student just called to cancel classes, so maybe I’ll hop over to the beach for a few hours while it’s still daylight.
Haze, there’s this stuff call Bengal Roach Spray that works pretty good.
I’m staring at the clock, waiting on 4:00. (I know I said 5:00 earlier, but I’m leaving early. Deal.) I’ve been playing rubberband shooting with my cube neighbor. We’re both getting pretty good at ricochet shots off the ceiling…
