Slightly delayed, my tale with a moral; this weeks MMP

Haze, I was just going to post about online dating. Since your dating pool is drastically different from mine, I doubt there’s any overlap, though.

I have an three year old profile that’s suddenly active again, I have no idea why, I’d forgotten I had it. I just went through and preemptively deleted all the emails from women looking for “slender or athletic” build, then the ones looking for women under 5’3", and then the marathon runner. I’m not exactly an elfin waif, as my picture clearly shows. Honestly, did they even *read *my profile? Anyway, that felt…empowering, I guess, to actually say no, I don’t think so, instead of, well, maybe. I’ve never had any luck with online dating, or its precursor, phone dating. Weirdos, women looking for something on the side, with or without their boyfriend/girlfriend’s permission, getting stood up, pregnant women looking for a sugar mama, the woman who was still living in her violent ex’s house and wanted me to come over to watch Buffy, the racist who was going to quit her job and pan for gold along the Merced (I am **not **making any of this up), yes, lots of fun. Did I have a point to all this? Oh, yeah, there is someone I want to email, but I’m quite certain I am, or was, a freak magnet because I’m a freak. Do I embrace the freakiness or try to hide it? Or maybe I’m not a freak anymore, and how could I tell anyway? Judging from this post, I’m going with freak.

(Sing-song voice) Good Morning everybody!!

(yes, I know, I’m to Og-d**n cheery first thing in the morning. Deal :p)

**Haze **- I’d totally fall for a beautiful fratricide trying to woo me online. I’d make sure you had company in solitary…
Just sayin’

Yays, Boos and anything else to whoever needs/deserves it (can you tell I’ve got a busy morning ahead? )

Where’s Roo? I miss you :frowning:

Hello all and happy MMP. Even if it is Tuesday by now.

Nice OP, BBBobbio; I’m glad that you were able to recognize the symptoms in yourself and get to the ER okay. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to Kai; I’ll be thinking of you and hoping that the root canal will go okay for you.

It should be a fairly quiet week at work; several co-workers are taking advantage of the mid-week holiday on the 4th to take vacation all week, and others are taking off on Thurs. & Friday. Me, I gotta save up my leave, especially since I have close to none. I actually got in to work a bit early this morning!

Since it should be so quiet, I’ve been going over the time & attendance records since the beginning of the leave year. Everything is, of course, online, and -occasionally- I make errors, so I’ve had a few amended time cards to do. Last October, they switched us to an online paystub, which makes it hard for timekeepers to ensure that the leave records are correct - you can only “see” your own paystub. There are “reports” in our timecard system, but to be honest, I can’t make heads or tails of them, even when payroll tried to help me out. So that’s why I’ve been going back over everyones records. Today, I discovered that one co-worker had petitioned for and been granted “time in service” which changed their leave earning ability (LOL - is that even a word?) from 4 hours a pay period to 6 hours a pay period, and now within the past month to 8 hours a pay period. Unfortunately, they forgot to tell me, the timekeeper, about this, so what I had on the records wasn’t matching up with what was showing in the online payroll, and I couldn’t figure out what it was! I was going crazy about this; I don’t know if I’ll be able to go in tomorrow and continue my checking, because just the thought of looking at those things again is making my stomach knot up. lol

Sorry for rambling! Hope everyone enjoys their Tuesday!

I’m right here. I posted earlier today. But thanks for talking to me anyway. That’s nice.

It’s been a rough day. First, I had this funky bummed feeling this morning and afternoon along with body aches and tonight I got some bad news from my family. So not a good day all around.

And to herbs and Special1, it’s still Monday. But I’m really ready for this day to be over, so I’ll go along with you guys just this once even if it’s only 11:32 pm here.

Mork, oooh, beautiful pictures. That house is AWESOME!! And those fireworks ones were nice too. I really like their yard. Someone put a lot of work into that place.

I haven’t asked in a while. How’s MindWife doing? Is she OK?

kai, I hope that root canal goes better than you anticipate. Hugs to you.

:frowning: {{{Roo}}}
Hope tomorrow (today!) is better for you. At least you have Wednesday off for Independence Day (You’re in the US, not Canada, right?)

Reaction of my brother the accountant when he heard of the time reduction: “hey, if you go in 3 days a week, they give you work for 3 days a week, and pay you 3K a month, it’s all good!” (The money is a taaad higher than that, even after french taxes)

Reaction of my mother the catalan: “does it mean less money? It does? DO NOT LET THEM DO THAT TO YOU! HOW DARE THEY!”

I swear that woman would rather see me filthy rich and dead than merely-rich and alive :stuck_out_tongue:

The overtake of the Mafia threads continues

Ouch, kai

Yes, Sean, both myself and the accountant (aka the min-maxer) have gone through all three. It’s funny; he min-maxes the char like crazy but I’m the one who starts making little lists about things like “places where you always find a fireball rod.” Throne of Bhaal was quite mindless, really. Or maybe the problem was that by that time we could play the thing in our sleep… but damn that one is lineal! (Still less than Dungeon Siege, but if DS was more lineal it would be a geometric entity)

Now excuse me, I have to go see who looks dunkable or else I’ll get dunked for not posting enough.

I’d just like to say that Nava’s name for me - HappyMuffin - is the one that should stick. Because I laughed about it all day.

Looks like it’s hugs all round this morning!

Debbie didn’t show up last night with a trap for Stanstead so nothing new to report there. Someone else from Cat’s Protection is coming tonight to try and catch him. She did say that the vet was able to get the chain off Prestwick but she’s still very poorly as she’s got some kind of poisoning from the metal and is still at the vet’s, on a drip.

Kai - I’ve had a root canal too, it really wasn’t that bad.

Mork - nice pics!

Err…that’s about all, I think it must be time for more tea.

What a night - kept waking up and having weird dreams that I don’t recall and all that silliness. Of course, I got up at my usual time because **FCD ** had to get up for work, and I had to take the canines out. I did crawl back into bed, but I knew it wasn’t gonna happen. So I’m caffeinating a bit before hitting the shower and getting some real clothes on. I’d rather not greet the air conditioner tech in this stained (but clean) purple bathrobe. Plus it’s a wee bit chilly in here and the robe just don’t cut it.

Today, I will be all domestical. I think my goal will be to put the living room back in order, which means I need to find a home for all the framed prints and paintings that used to be under the guest bed. I think I’ll be stacking them in the littlest bedroom. There’s also the box o’ stuff that I need to sort (keep-trash-Goodwill) and miscellaneous things that need to be put away or disposed of. I should be able to whip thru it in a couple of hours at most. So yay. And maybe after the AC guy is done, I’ll attack my studio.

But first, the shower and clean clothes…

Well, aren’t we quiet this morning…

I’m showered and clad in some of my scragglier jeans and an old T. I’m enjoying a scrambled egg sammich before launching into full domestical mode. I stripped the bed and the sheets are in the washer. And in theory, I should get a call in about an hour to let me know the techs are on the way.

Sure beats going to the office.

Then HappyMuffin you shall be! Also, I hereby proclaim Kat to be Kit-Kat. What? I’m full of caffiene and believe myself to be Emperor right now. Get over it. :stuck_out_tongue:

We could proclaim FCM to be Moooooom is the whiny sing-song voice kinda way.

Mornin’ Y’all! How’s everybody?

Today I am going to buy car tags. Woo and Hoo. My bday is this month and I gotta buy 'em before or on that day (actually I have a whole extra day cause bday falls on Sunday this year). I have the funds to do so now, so Ima buy 'em today. All three of 'em. I could mail 'em in but I’ve decided to ride up to da ‘Burg and do it in person. I can also drop off my water/garbage bill (plus check) whilst I’m there. It is the only bill I can’t pay on line yet. I wish Lee County would get it in gear about that. They keep promisin’ but still don’t have it set up. Think I’ll ask about it again while I’m there just for the heck of it.

kai I hate dental work but root canals are survivable. Make sure the dentist gives you a 'scrip for plenty of good pain meds for afterwards. After all good drugs are the reward for such things.

BioRosie somehow I have missed that WaMu commercial. Maybe I’ll go out and see if’n I can find it on YouTube.

I was thinking more along the lines of Miss Kitty. Kat, are you an over-the-hill saloon girl with an uncanny resemblance to Amanda Blake?

How about Agent K?

FCM aren’t you guys eligible for USAA insurance? My rates are lower through them than anyone else, and at the end of this last billing period they sent me a check for $65. Not enough to go on vacation with, granted, but I like the idea that that company splits up the excess profits between all of their customers.

Kaiwik Don’t sweat the root canal. You’ll feel much better afterwards, and you’ll wonder why you even worried at all about it. On preview: What everyone else said.

Nava the reason I asked is because I want to kow how to get to that tower that has all the goodies. And should I swap out some of my characters. I went straight into ToB from the end of BGII, with the same party I had there (Jaheira, Keldorn, Annonem (sp?), Imoen & Minsc), and I’m in that town with the horribly overpriced/overplussed weapons.

Not eligible for USAA since I didn’t start it on active duty and neither of us retired from the Navy. Missed out by 23 years…

Morning all. I am caffeinating, and I am going to do some laundry. I also have to pay rent today, if anybody is in at the office.

Yay for HappyMuffin and Kit-Kat

SCL, I love Two Lumps. I think Lucretia is Eben’s twin sister.

I’m tired.

But, on the bright side, I’m only working until I meet my friend Marti for lunch.

But, on the other hand, I left my I-pod at home, so it’s QUIET in here.

But, on the other hand, maybe I’ll find some fun podcasts to download and listen to right here on the laptop.

Well, back to the grind for us Canucks. The great thing about long weekends (other than the extra day off) is the short week that follows. I bought an Atalufo mango this morning. I don’t even remember if I like mangos, but it’s a wee thing, so I thought I’d try it. I also made up a big ol’ crock pot of my chili yesterday, too, which I allowed to cook for a good 6 hours. I made it a little differently this time, adding tarragon (N.O.Tarragon) and three beans (50% red kidney, the other 50% split between navy and pinto) along with the usual red & green peppers, celery, ground beef (Angus sirloin, extra lean – very tender!), sliced mushrooms and other various spices. Turned out quite good, except there’s a bit too much of the tarragon in it, so it’s a bit on the sweet side and quite aromatic – in a good way, just not the way I was intending. It also wasn’t spicy enough, despite being loaded down with chili powder, cracked black pepper, and red and green Tabasco. I should have added some chili peppers or cayenne, but I was trying for a tangy yet flavourful heat. Din’ work. Oh well, I know for next time to add some raw heat somewhere along the line. I brought some for lunch anyway.

Heff & Roo - Thanks. Yeah, that house is quite nice. I should have taken more pics of the inside, it’s surprisingly well appointed and really nicely laid out. MindWife is doing okay at the moment. We are still awaiting the results of the bloodwork, so no clues or confirmations yet. She only went last Thursday so it may be a few more days to a week yet. I’ll post when we know the results. Hope things pick up for you; your fireworks are on tomorrow, and you can’t stay bummed when things are all sparkly and shiny and explody around you.

Kai - I’ve never had a root canal, but I’m intimately familiar with tooth pain. I had to get one pulled a few years ago because the pain had built to such a level that I couldn’t sleep, eat, drink – nothin’. I can handle pain pretty well – I don’t like it and I’d like to beat the snot out of it, but I put up with that which I have no control over. (What else can I do?) It’s the perpetuity of it, never subsiding, never letting me do anything, it just wore me right down until I went to the dentist finally. I wanted to crawl into the fetal position while in that waiting chair it was so bad. When the dentist finally put me in the chair and injected the novocaine (five shots!), the relief was almost as palpable as it was instantaneous. From that point on I didn’t care what he did, ‘cos man, I didn’t feel a thing, even when he practically had his foot on my chest, yanking like there was a pot o’ gold at the other end of that tooth. I can’t imagine that a root canal would be much more than uncomfortable once they numb the hell out of your mouth, and perhaps even give you the gas.

Hank - I don’t know if you could off lightly for strangling him. They might be a lot more understanding if you found a new storage place for his phone, though.

SCL - Two Lumps is awesome. It’s one of the only webcomics that read on a regular basis. I have a black kitty who could be twin to Eben.

Swampy - Har. S’okay, I know the pooch is cuter than I am. I mean look at 'im. Look at 'im! He’s constitutionally cute.

DoggieButler - Yeah, that observation was made about that mutt. If you covered his ears though, he looked like a little baby seal.

Rigs - Well, yeah, but garden angels has a cute double entendre do it, so I called them that instead. Garden Fairies sounds more like Queer Eye for green thumbs.

Haze - That’s a generous description. I’m going to get my hair cut this weekend though, so I won’t have to worry about the bad hair days for a while, because I won’t have much hair left for the wind to sweep.

Whoa. So much posting.

Will post later when tea has reached brain.

I called and found out the techs are supposed to be on the way. I’ve done some tidying in the living room and dining room, and I’ve folded the now-clean sheets. After I get a few more items out of the living room, I can run the vacuum, and that room will be back to normal. So yay!

I guess this is a sneak preview of retirement…

I just saw a woman on an HGTV show make a really cool teapot. I think I may have to steal her idea. If I ever get back into my studio. *<sigh> * Well, back to tidying.

Subject: Ataulfo mango (Mangifera indica L.)
Appearance: Yellow peel and flesh; oblong, roughly hand-sized.
Smell: Flesh smells mild, almost bland. Rind smells like highly concentrated, potentially corrosive industrial citrus cleaner when peeled.
Texture: Creamy
Taste: Exceptionally sweet with sour overtones.
Bottom line: Them’s some good eatin’, but do not leave the rind lying around, as the scent may cause passersby to call in a potential terrorist chemical attack. Do not, under any circumstances, snort the rind. May cause hallucinations, delusion, and dementia.
