The age old struggle between smart asses and dumb asses can be found in the Bible quote “…it is better to be a smart ass for me rather than a dumb ass against me”. Or was it " a dumb ass for me and a smart ass against me".? To tell the truth I do not know as I lost my Bible ages ago and the exact wording escapes me…
Either way…

…dumb asses would be off more use as they would more than likely do what you want whereas with smart asses you would have to constantly come back with more smart ass replies and nothing would get done.
There is no biblical support to your “smart ass v. Dumb ass” showdown hypothesis. I don’t know what would possess you to think the bible would contain these relatively new slang terms.
Yeah my Bible. I remember it well. Timothy Leary personally signed it for me while I was taking his Mind Bending Biology UCLA class back in 1962. Mind you its the only thing I can remember.
I think you are confusing smart asses with wise asses.
Smart ass wisdom is plentiful in the Bible: “Render unto Caesar what is due Caesar, but render unto God what is due God.”
Wise ass wisdom is more apocryphal: “Let any among you who is without sin, cast the first stone.”
