All winter long, we’ve had cold (and sometimes, really cold) temps, some incredible wind, and lots and lots of promise of snowstorm after snowstorm. But pretty much every hope of a storm we’ve had has been dashed as it either shifted north (you’re welcome, Massachusetts) or even south, as there are places as far as South Carolina and Georgia that have gotten more snow out of individual storms than DC has recorded all season (3.7 inches, to date). There have even been articleswritten about the fabled “DC Snow Hole” and how storms manage to dance around us with regularity.
But, redemption appears to be on the horizon. There’s been a storm on the radar for over a week, but everyone scoffed. “It’s too late in the season,” they said. “The angle of the sun is too high,” they said. “We saw better promises of storms in January and February that didn’t materialize,” they said. But less than 24 hours out, instead of decent snow total predictions dropping steadily to zero—as they have with every other storm this year—the predictions keep going up. Even as early as yesterday morning, professionals were saying we might see 0"-2", if we’re lucky. But as the models converge on a solution, we’re looking like we’ll see some real accumulation. The last official prediction from my trusted source said 4"-6", with a comment that they made need to revise upward later today. The Weather Channel shows us getting 6"-11".
And even though I actually have no choice about coming into work tomorrow, I am pleased. Finally.
Damn telework agreement. Before I signed it, snow days mean admin leave (i.e. free day off). Now that it’s signed, I have to take my laptop home (~30 minute foot slog to/from Metro stations each way, every day) or else face having to take vacation hours even for a snow day.
This is the reason I refuse to sign up for telework. Slightly off-topic: Someone told me that, during the Wind Day, they had to telework, but if they lost power (and thus couldn’t work), they would have to take vacation… is that right?
I’ve had enough, actually a few snowflakes are enough for me, but this will be our fourth, and in March. They are calling for 6-12 here, which is quite a gap, so who knows. Happy Spring, everyone!

Capital Weather Gang tweet from 2:04PM: “We just watched the new European model come in and our jaws dropped. We may not be done with (upward) adjustments to the snowfall forecast.”
Tysons Corner seems to be in the (at least) 4-6" range. It’s spring, dammit!
I’ll be working from home tomorrow, though, so really it shouldn’t be more than an inconvenience for me (as long as my power and internet stay on). The most important thing will be that all of the roads between here and northern NJ get cleared by Friday morning, so I can drive my sports car up there for a family funeral.
