The Euro model is actually showing 12-15 for the northern part of DC and southeast MoCo, with up to 17" in other parts of MoCo. I’m hearing one should view the Euro with skepticism this close to an event. Still, it’s beginning to sound like a foot is not out of the question.
It should be noted that with ground temps hovering fairly close to the freezing mark, not all that falls will stick, so it doesn’t mean we’d end up with a foot of snow on the ground. But it sounds like it’s going to be more than enough to notice.
The same thing happened one year when I was living in NYC. We didn’t have a flake of snow all winter; then on the first day of spring we had over a foot.
I don’t know if the structure of the telework agreements is the same across the government, or varies from one agency to another.
We’ve got two types: Type A, occasional telework only. If the government is closed due to weather, you don’t have to work. But you’ve got to keep your teleworking under 80 hours a year. Type B, regular telework, can telework up to 2 days each week (more if you’re in a desk-sharing arrangement), but if the government is closed due to weather, you’ve got to telework.
I’m on Plan A. If we’re closed tomorrow, the Firebug and I will play in the snow.
We have a high school senior who could care less if the school year gets extended. Graduation is when it is. We have another parent conference day we can cancel, so I’m not worried about mine being extended either. DC schools, where I work, are less likely to close. I can hope, though.
Well, there must be something to it as we’re expecting 12-21" up I-95 a bit in the Philly area. Schools have already been cxl’d for tomorrow (no surprise).
I’m working from home but will go out to shovel a few times & pull my snowshoes out for one last romp of the season. Hmmm, methinks I should go make sure one of the local taverns doesn’t loose too much income in the inclement weather.
It’s snowing, windy and cold here in SE Indiana, and they’ve bumped our accumulation totals from 2-4" to 3-5". School better be cancelled tomorrow, I’m letting my sons stay up late…
I was surprised at the lack of white in the back yard when I woke. I decided to wait for daylight before making my work decision. The current forecast is 1-3" with sleet. The sleet is what concerns me. We shall see.
Still at home - I poked my head out about 20 minutes ago and it’s still sleeting with the temp hovering around freezing. If it warms up a bit, I’ll go in, but as it stands now, ain’t goin’ nowhere!
I emailed my boss and coworkers, not that any of them care. Well, maybe they’d wonder if they made it in and I didn’t since I’m always in first. Regardless, I’m staying put for the moment.
OK, now we’ve got ice pellets coming down and already accumulating. Had thought about running an errand or two before things got messy, but so much for that.
Since I get my weather from Weather Underground rather than local news, this is literally the first I’d heard about the alleged D.C. snow hole.
Looking at the links, one of those articles has a bunch of links about the ‘snow hole’ going back to December 2010, which amuses me because in the 2009-2010 winter, we’d had over four feet of snow - it had already been an exceptionally snowy winter even before the infamous Snowmageddon.
It started coming down steadily here about 7:45 or so. The sidewalks are now covered, and the street is about 90% of the way there. Very pretty.
I’m hearing this morning that the extreme numbers some predicted yesterday aren’t going to happen, but it still should be a shovelable amount. And as I was unexpectedly granted the ability to work from home, I’m just enjoying the view out of my window.
It looks like we have a couple of inches so far right outside the northern part of DC (Silver Spring next to Takoma Park). I hurt my back on some ice several weeks ago, so it ain’t gonna be me shoveling. There will only be two days of school before spring break when we go back tomorrow, I’m guessing our more well off families will be off to places their teachers can’t afford to go.
