Afternoon all. Slacks have been retrieved from the Dry Cleaners and shopping at Kroger included today’s New York Times (I try to pick one up every week, depending on which day I’m there), so I have plenty of reading matter. Lunch has been ingested and is assimilating, so possible nappage is in my future (big meals do that to me. The burger is defrosted so it will be grilled and cheesed later today.
doggio, you seem to be having so much fun, I can hardly stand it…
OK, potty break and back to Sudoku (2 out of three done already).
A friend of ours wrapped herself in saran wrap (and nothing else) for her boyfriend one time. But she used so much wrap that it was essentially opaque.
I’ll bet he had fun unwrapping her, though.
Cookie, I’ve had those ocular migraines too, but without any headache. I’m planning to mention them to the eye doc next month.
Chillage is in full swing here, although it has warmed up to a balmy 44F. Supposed to rain in an hour or so though, and continue raining for the rest of the week, except tomorrow, so tomorrow I’ll burn the paper trash.
Put together one of my new shelving units yesterday. It’s a big’n. 2’x4’ and 6’ high. I bought 2 of them, but it turns out the space where I was gonna put them is only 7’ wide. So now I’m gonna move the smaller (36"x18") unit over there and find a place for the other 2’x4’ unit someplace else. No, I didn’t know how big they were when I bought 'em. They didn’t have one on display, they just had a sign that said ‘closeout’ and a price I couldn’t refuse.
Red, one of these days you should post a picture of one of your projects so’s we’ll know what you’re talking about.
Waiting on a couple of orders from the Jungle, (not sorted by Doggio). UPS guy delivered something to the house next door this morning. We were wondering why our stuffs weren’t on the same truck.
Seems wasteful, 'specially since the truck has to come from 40+ miles away.
I went to a gig once where most of the band were wearing only saran wrap shorts… They were pretty well opaque, but didn’t exactly look comfy.
Very little has been achieved with the day.
I did do some washing and bought some stuff online to pick up tomorrow, but that was Ooh, maybe 20 minutes worth of effort. I really need to get shopping done and stuff posted, if it’s going to be there on time, but time’s all gone wonky this year- that’s my excuse, and I’m sticking with it.
28F (-2.2C), with a predicted high of 31 (-.6) and a low tonight of 28 (though it’s supposed to be back up to 31 by 0200). Not snowing yet, but the winter storm warning is in effect until 1300 tomorrow and they’re now saying to expect 9-15 inches (23-38 cm) of snow and wind gusts up to 41 mph (66 km/h).
Based on past experience I’m expecting 5-8 inches…
Reminded me of a joke - I think Joan Rivers told it. “I met my husband at the door wearing nothing but saran wrap. He said: What? Leftovers again??”
Still raining, still cold, still miserable outside. And I still haven’t decided what to do for supper. But I did finally talk to Atlantic Broadband and straightened out our account. So there’s that.
It’s raining here, too, but that’s nothing new. I think the National Weather Service just copies and pastes “Rain likely.” on every day’s forecast. It’s not inaccurate.
That cracked me up! Hopefully someone besides me remembers the book where this hint–meet your weary-but-randy hubby at the door in this garb–came from was called The Sensuous Woman (by “J”). Never read it, being about 12 when it first appeared, but I recall all the jokes about the saran wrap bit I imagine without a lithe, taut body, it’d look more like “two pounds of baloney in a one-pound bag,” to use an old Honeymooners line, but whatever floats your boat.
flyboy, I like that work rule.
Me, three. Let me know what your eye doc says. All I’ve ever gotten was a sympathetic nod and “,” maybe because they see it as neurological? Anyway, I’d be interested in finding out what you learn.
Hats off to sudoku players. It seems more like math problems to me, which shows how much fun I am. I do like a rousing crossword puzzle or word jumble.
Howdy Y’all! I did end up makin’ N.O.L. instead of sup just cause. So we et, chilled, and napped this afternoon. Any need to feed this evenin’ will be via forage. However, I think I hear popcorn callin’ me.
Sudoku puzzles are kinda fun. I’ll do one on occasion. Have never done one labeled hard, however. Medium is more my speed.
It’s after 3:15, so I guess I’ll go home. Short commute today, since I’m working from the other end of the couch.
Got a file in a different format. We’re trying to get away from me having to write programs, so I thought I’d send it to Where It Needs To Go as-is with a new layout. Only there are some funky things in it so I’m going to have to write a program anyway. I forwarded it to WINTG with notes on the logic that needs to be used, and asked if they can work with it. I’ll go ahead and write a program tomorrow so that I can send it in the same format we’ve been sending for years.
swampy, you are correct about seasoning green beans with neckbones. I hadn’t thought about using them for French onion soup though. I usually just get some beef soup bones from the butcher for that.
Johnny, you’re making me nostalgic for potlucks at irkplaces past. Probably the best ones were when I irked in the meat packing industry. Most of the employees were either southerners, Lao or Somali, with a few Caribbean Hispanics thrown in for good measure. We had the best from all over the world.

Mooooooom, have you considered blue tooth headphones for the TV when you’re using the treadmill?
Irked over tonight, meaning that, this time of year, I left in the dark and came home in the dark. Come on Solstice so we can have more daylight!
As soon as KP is done, I’ll likely wrap up the gift bags that I’m making in the studio (yes, bumba, I’ll try to remember to post a pic). Usually, I make greeting cards and scrapbooks. I sell some of the cards and usually get commissions for ~4 wedding albums a year (this year only got one, given the circumstances). The stuff I sell pays for my hobby.
Evening all. Have gotten both garbage and recycle cans to the curb and the cheeseburger is being assimilated as I type. Rain finally stopped early this afternoon and now it’s 36F heading for 28F. Oh joy.
FCM, looked at the ‘killer Sudokus’…interesting, may try them sometime, but the current basic ones stretch my feeble mind quite enough, I think.
Bumba, yeah for the new shelving, I’m sure they will be filled before you know it (stuff expands to overflow all shelving…one of the basic laws of the universe, IMHO).
Been trying to reorganize my master list of passwords, never realized just how many of them I have, and since I try not to use the same one more than once, it can be rather confusing. Trying to organize them by ones I use frequently (home, financial, etc) and those that get less use. Might take awhile.
Also need to compile info on my assets/debits point of contacts and such as an attachment to the new Will I’m drafting. Never realized just how many places/organizations will have to be informed when I’ve kicked the bucket, shuffled off the mortal coil, ring down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. Quite a bother dying, I am just about decided that it’s not worth the hassle and I’m going to live forever.
Callers were a good deal more obnoxious than normal, and I’m getting heartily sick of call distribution that has me getting hit damn near non-stop while several people in my row have plenty of time to socialize.
Minor rain spatters on the way home, 100% chance of rain overnight. Never got above mid-50s outside, either. Very foggy this morning, so of course I got a bus driver who apparently did not consider slowing down a little in fog needed. In fact, we arrived at the end of the run 5 minutes earlier than usual.
Cheeseburgers and tater tots for dinner tonight. High-faluting gourmet foodie snobs DH and I are not.
Morning, mumpers! Bright and shiny over here today, let’s hope it lasts. I’m off work today as I’d got some leave I needed to use up, and I wanted to be working tomorrow as it’s the last day campus is open so there’s usually something that comes along as a last minute emergency.
I have a few plans for my day, off to the gym shortly and then I’ll be spending most of the afternoon on the sofa with a book, dinner will be leftovers from the freezer with some extra veg chucked in, and this evening my favourite singer in the whole entire world is doing a “live from the living room in Spain” performance so I’ll be glued to that, as will a bunch of my friends. And then it’ll be almost Friday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 43 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 49 and cloudy for the day. So gloomy day ahead, a good day to be in da cave. No where I need to go today and that is fine by me. Not a whole lot on the agenda. Do need to do a few tasks such as cleanin’ the kitchen fridge, and goin’ through a buncha papers that need to be sorted for filin’ or shreddin’. I suppose those things will entertain for a while. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Another sub-freezing morning, but we are promised sun today, if not warmth. I’m going to make up a big batch of sketty sauce for the freezer, setting a bit aside to make a pasta bake for supper. I’m also going to divide the spiral-sliced ham into freezer packs. Looks like at least part of today will involve the kitchen.
And if it warms enough and I get motivated enough, I may start loading the truck for a run to the dump - all the scrap wood in the basement needs to go. I think I know how I want to arrange things down there, including a play area for Roxy. When I get the scrap wood out, I can move the wood we’re keeping and I can lay out RoxyLand. I’ve got an area rug to give her, and it needs to be cleaned. Yep, I’ve got enough to keep me busy today.
Plus I’ll do another hour on my Walkinator! Meanwhile, breakfast and caffeination continues.
Grumpy. Could not fall asleep at all. Up and down. Cup of hot cider, the whole bit. Will go back to bed as soon as teen aged roomie is dropped off at middle school. Hrumph…grumble…mutter.
I was dreaming so much last night. I even dreamed about the Dope and that for some reason I agreed to post on someone else’s behalf, then they went in and edited and added my full name and a lengthy rant about work. Then I shifted into a different dream where my son came in, told me he had a fever and was tired, and I assumed it was COVID, so I jerked awake. I think I’m unsettled because my ass-handing has been moved from yesterday to a few minutes from now. I hate when my meetings with my boss get moved; she’s a busy lady, but intimidating as hell and I hate having extra time to contemplate screwups, imagined or otherwise.
Anyway, drinking the coffee. Waiting to eat until after my meeting. Overlyboy and overlyhubs are still asleep. I expect overlyhubs will be late-ish getting up. He slept flat last night and choked a couple of times, freaking us both out. I imagine sleep wasn’t easy afterward. Dude needs a sleep study.
Hopefully my feeling of not giving a crap will dissolve after a chat with the boss lady. She’s intimidatingly smart and poised, but she’s also a good motivator and someone I look up to, despite reminding me vaguely of Miranda Priestly (and my boss’s boss, who could give Miranda a run for her money).
Had to look up the Miranda Priestly reference, hope the meeting was favorable. talky. Enjoy breaking fast.
swampy, all the rain has left here so it must have gone down to visit you, N.O.S. today but only 42F in N. Ali-bama. Nothing much on the agenda either.
boo fae, sounds like an awesome off-day. hope you enjoy.
nettie, I figure they know your one of the better ‘phone-wranglers’ and give them less hassle, so they come to you if they can–the curse of competence.
OK, need to do the Instant Breakfast routine with a banana chaser and get about the day. All y’all have a good Thorsday.
