So for those of you who hate watching sports, television, and Facebook...

What DO you do with your leisure time, when at home? Please be as specific as possible, for those of us whom you look down upon…

Reading, gardening, cooking, eating, masturbation.

I just created an awesome picture of you in my mind, DrFidelius. It involved all of your hobbies at once!

I don’t look down on people for being on Facebook. It just doesn’t appeal to me. I’m a loner by nature and don’t really care about the mundane details of other peoples lives. On message boards, where I spend a ridiculous amount of time, I can comment and read comments on various topics without really having to get too personal or at least no more or less personal than I want to at any given moment. I don’t look down on people that enjoy watching sports. It’s just really boring to me. I’m a ww kayaker so if I stumble across something pertaining to that on the tube…I’l watch it. That probably bores most non-paddlers, hence the lack of paddlesports on TV.
I love television so no looking down on anyone there unless they’re watching Honey Boo Boo or something like that. Then just a smidge of down-looking.
Once I was a voracious reader but I no longer enjoy reading books. I sure many would look down on me for that.

Well, I don’t look don’t on people who do those things, but aside from that I fit the bill.

I read, a lot. I’m trying to read at least 52 books this year. I spend time with my fiancee and family. I play video games, and surf the web. I walk in the woods, and work on computers. I cook all kinds of goodies.

Another in the “I don’t look down on anyone, I just don’t do those things” crowd.

I read, a lot. Tons. I also build stuff, or tinker at least. Mostly medieval related…armour, furniture, things like that. I do calligraphy a lot too. I go through periods where I feel completely uninspired, and will play whatever videogame has caught my interest, but then its back to tinkering with stuff. I’ve just started dipping my toes in the home-brewing pool, but I’m enthusiastic about it.

I also write a good bit. I guess I’m just one of those guys who isn’t content sitting still watching other people do stuff. I’d rather just be doing stuff. My wife is the opposite. She loves TV and Facebook, so she keeps me up to date on anything I may need to know from them. I don’t look down on her or on anyone for it though.

I watch Honey Boo Boo. That child was nominated for an award from GLADD for increasing awareness and acceptance around GLB issues. Given that she resides in a rural, conservative area, this is quite a feat of strength and activism. Don’t be so quick to judge…I am guessing she’s done more for equality and social justice than most people here combined.

I do watch TV. But other activities include banjo, and I’m currently learning German. Those take up quite a bit of time. And there’s always something to do working on the house. Sundays I often cook a big batch of something.

Cook, clean, walk the dog, feed animals, scoop litterboxes, do laundry, go to the gym, deal with children. I don’t really have much leisure time, unless you count some TV watching at night, which I do with my husband because he wants someone to watch TV with. I get up half an hour early on work days so I can go to work, sit in my car in the parking lot, and snatch a few precious minutes to read.

266 views. Ha!

“I’m so edgy I view threads but don’t reply.”

Maybe because many of them don’t hate the things you ask about, but wanted to see what those who do say?

Why the heck would I look down on people that watch sports or spend time on Facebook? Just because I don’t spend time on them, doesn’t mean you can’t.

Reading, cooking, working on the yard in the summer, wandering the internet, reading the SDMB, dinner with friends, road trips to visit friends and family, online games, hanging out with friends, occasional camping trips, occasional travel.

As for this:

Really? You post in every thread you read?

You’re living in hell. They probably make you watch it, right?

I don’t hate the activities mentioned by the OP, but now that I’ve viewed the thread, I guess I’m obligated to post in it. So… I’ll turn it around and ask you what you think people did before TV and facebook were invented?

Take the boat out on the lake (it’s right by our house). Sometimes fish a little, sometimes just enjoy the sunshine at anchor.

Take the 4-wheeler out for a run thru the woods. Maybe take a few pictures if I find something interesting.

Take my bike to a trail. I’m not a hard-core rider, but I enjoy quietly pedaling thru the scenery.

Take my dogs out in the backyard and chase them around, or throw a ball.

Sit on the back deck with a cold beer and just think. About stuff.

If it’s cold, climb in the hot tub with a cold beer and just think. About stuff.

There are several TVs in our house for those who want them. I like quiet. And being alone. So I’m usually outside (not matter what the weather).

Goofy answers I guess, but that’s what I do at/near the house.
If it matters, I’m not looking down on anyone. Entertainment is however a person defines it. One type isn’t necessarily better than another. I’m just answering your question.

I read a lot, play video games, do crafts, surf the net. When I first got on AOL, I spent a LOT of time just reading the SD archives. Nowadays, I know better than to go to Wikipedia or TVTropes unless I’ve got a lot of time on my hands. I cook from scratch. I try to garden, but what really happens is that I spend a lot of time, money, and effort in slowly killing plants. And I have four cats and a husband, all of them needing my attention.

Then again, I spend a lot of time just sitting and thinking.

I don’t HATE watching sports or television, and I have a Facebook account which I sift through occasionally, but I’ll admit I have a smidge of resentment of some sort for those that engross themselves into these sorts of things. Probably something to do with exaggerating their liking for the stuff into some sort of obsession that engulfs their lives and makes them incapable of rational thinking due to the sheer emotional investment into people launching projectiles around or falling in love with imaginary characters which makes them angry that their world can’t be as exciting as those portrayed on the screen

…Perhaps you get the idea. I don’t take it seriously, but it’s a thought.

Anyhow there are literally thousands of other hobbies one could pursue, so I don’t see how the absence of a television would render us absolutely dysfunctional.

I used to watch television, but now I surf the web and play computer games instead. I just enjoy those things much more than television.

I also like that I can listen to music while I do those things. I love music, and now I listen to it all day long.

I stay on this site all day where I am quick to mock my intellectual inferiors.

What a positively obnoxious thing to say. Maybe it’s better you keep to yourself, given that you lack social skills and all.
