I read books, play computer games, surf the net - mostly posting on forums for the latter.
I’ve never liked watching sports, even as a kid; I played sports as a kid, but I never saw the attraction in watching them. I just sort of drifted away from watching TV. And I’ve just no interest in Facebook (and Twitter is outright annoying to me).
I love this! It’s why I’m trying to curtail my internet use - there are so many things you can do if you don’t waste all your free time being (passively) ‘entertained’.
I don’t hate television, but I generally only watch it once or twice a week.
I read, write, take and edit photos, garden, practise the piano, listen to podcasts. Sometimes I just waste time on the internet.
I’m certainly not a model of organized and constructive habits. It’s just that there’s usually nothing on the TV that interests me. I used to play computer games, and I still do occasionally, but they don’t hold my attention like they used to.
As others have said, I don’t look down on you. I do watch television – news, Big Bang theory, Daily Show, Game of Thrones, and other esoterica. But not as much as I used to. I read, write, surf the web both for research and idle curiosity (and for the Dope, of course). I cycle, ski, and play racquetball.
But I’ve never ghotten into watching sports, even ones I participate in. I get nothing out of it. This extends to porn – I get nothing from watching two (or more) other people having sex.
Surf the web, manga, anime, martial arts, reading news like The Economist, NYT. On my Kindle Fire I just finished Walking With Dinosaurs which I thought was a hoot.
I don’t look down on sports fans. Heck some of my hobbies are more mockable.
I just started a subscription to Science which I am enjoying. You don’t have to understand an article fully to find it diverting, and the articles in the beginning are pretty accessible. Ok, you’re right: I’m a geek.
