Happy day to you!! Did you bring us cake??
Happy day to you!! Did you bring us cake??
Happy birthday Maus whose mumpername I cannot remember!
It’s my approximate Saturday today- technically my day off, but I still dial in for the hour long weekly update (I don’t officially have to, but it’s normally useful) which just finished.
I’ve done sufficient adulting today in the form of unclogging the shower drain- probably my least favourite job, but as my hair is almost long enough to sit on, it’s one I’ve had to get used to… Ick.
It’s windy but sunny, so I think I’ll head out for walkies shortly- not a long one, as I managed to get a pretty impressive blister last week due to walking for over 2 hours through a vey muddy woodland in wellies, and it’s not fully healed yet. I do need to get more exercise though, before I fuse to the bed- I don’t even have space for a desk and chair here, so I’m literally sitting on the bed all day on a laptop.
Oh well; at least with the crappy living situation and the far better pay, I’m saving money and, fingers crossed, it sounds like the contract is going to be extended.
Happy *checks* Thorsday all!
Happy Birthday, Maus! And best of luck to the Mrs. Let us know how she’s doing.
My hips hurt like hell today. I haven’t worked out since Monday and they’re screaming at me. I guess I need to haul said hips onto the treadmill this afternoon since it’s supposed to storm more or less all day long. I chilled with overlyboy while he was doing his English last night for nearly four hours, with him bouncing ideas off me and me just nudging and encouraging and asking questions to keep him focused so he’s not in homework hell tonight with all the other stuff he has to do for finals.
The level of work they’re expecting of these kids - especially the virtual ones - is really astounding. He tends to have upwards of four or five hours a night compared to the in-person freshmen, which have around two hours. Even his PE teacher has the kids doing not just a workout (which they have to film and send in) but they’re also required to do detailed essays on articles and a video analysis of athletes’ movements and send that in, too. It’s heartbreaking. Just a few more weeks and he’ll be done with finals, by hook or by crook.
I managed to finish my first cut of my own Big Work Project last night. Second cut is tomorrow. I want to go home, but alas, I am already here.
Y’all are too sweet. I got myself into this mess, though, all by my damn self, and it feels wrong to have others pay to get me out of it.
Also, I haven’t yet decided what the hell imma do. Keep hoping the stupid folder magically turns back up.
Afternoon, mumpers! We’ve had a night or so of quite stormy wild weather and although it’s calmed down a bit, it’s still not great out there. Weather app agrees and tell me it’s “Wetter than your sports bra after a fucking marathon” and promises me 9C/48F, partly cloudy with showers nearby for the day.
Shoe sorry to hear that the missing docs refuse to show themselves. Are you sure they didn’t get shredded into rattie bedding at some point? I’d agree with a GoFundMe page too, if running a car and being able to do so legally is vital to your life (and your job) then you need to get it sorted sooner rather than later. There’s always the option to offer donors a payback later when funds allow it.
*Mooom sorry to hear that the Wisteria fought back. I had a Russian vine in a previous garden that was always trying to get all the way down the trellis and in through the door, trampling and strangling everything in the way.
Happy birthday, Magic Nancy, hope you had a good day! Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for Mrs Maus too, that does sound like cause for concern.
Nothing exciting going on here, I have had four meetings today already and I am not in the mood for any more. I’ve also cobbled together a couple of quick guides for my newbies on how to access certain stuff they’ll need to use, involving screen shots and snippage and everything! I need a cup of tea now…
Happy Birthday Magic/Magic Nancy/Wizard (we do have to finalize that…). Fifty-One? You’re a snot-nosed kid compared to some of us geezers… And hope wife gets a clean bill of health.
Shoe, agree with boo fae and nettie, some type of GoFundMe type page (and be sure to let us know, I might have a dollar or two to kick in…) might be best. Keep you out of jail at least…
talky, I wonder if the extra work is the teachers thinking “he isn’t doing anything else so…” Kid will make it through, I’m sure.
Taters, I concur with you, if it doesn’t get better it probably won’t, so see the Doc. And try to enjoy the weekend.
nellie, be happy you have family that calls. Brother is about my only living relative, and I have to do all the calling (owe him one, as I think about it). And Daylight savings works for me, it’ll stay darker in the morning so I can sleep it and lighter in the evening so I can coach soccer longer.
Have broken fast and it’s 63F heading for 72F today. More soccer coaching tonight, the game schedules showed up in the system this morning so I’ve spent time typing them up and making copies to give to the players along with sending e-mails to all and sundry. Haven’t even had time to check my usual morning U-tube program (Good Mythical Morning) so that is next. Was up at 6am so may try to grab a nap before soccer.
All y’all have a good Thorsday.
There are storms every year that throw debris, stone, logs, and lots of water over the road; but the Solstice 2018 storm was the worst I’ve seen. In other storms, people living on the other side of the road from the beach would have their yards flooded. This was the first (and only) time I’ve seen that intersection flooded. The berm has been a long time coming; and while we haven’t had a storm like the one three years ago, we’ve had some normal ones. The berm seems to be working.
We’ll be waiting to hear that everything will be ok. It is soooo scary for her (and you) waiting for those kind of results. I like lottery tickets and secret Santas better.
Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you!!
Well, ratfarts. No shot for FCD because he had a shingles shot last week. We have to wait at least till next Firday and the schedule for then isn’t up yet. You’d think when I filled out the pre-screen survey, it would pop up something about the shingles shot. Dammit.
On the plus side, he got my dirt this morning, and after I swap out washer/dryer loads, I’ll don my grubbies and head out to get some yard work done. We might get rain tomorrow, so I’d like to do as much as I can today. And on Sunday, we’re going to go help our daughter with her yard - FCD will give SIL a lesson in chainsawing. Bottom line, work work work work work work…
HAPPY NAKED DAY!
311 (band) - Wikipedia: The band’s name originates from the police code for indecent exposure in Omaha, Nebraska, after the original guitarist for the band was arrested for streaking.
So The Screw Up Faiy called outWe had a fire drill right when the drivers were trying to leave. Still, being paid to stand out in sunny 62F weather on the clock does not suck. Nap time.
Happy Birthday old man*!
{{{{Mrs. Maus}}}}
*dogbutler, who is 394 days younger than you.
Happy birthday!
I can barely remember what 51 was like…
Currently 50F (wind chill 48) and fair, with a predicted high of 58. Not going to last long – Sunday night’s low is theoretically going to be 21. Wonder if the tulips and daffs have broken the surface yet… No plans for the day except a trip to the clinic for the INR draw I was supposed to get done yesterday.
I took a break from raking to empty the dryer and fold the shirts. And have a pretzel and some water. And post.
I had to change into shorts - it’s too warm for yard work in long pants! I hope I can manage another couple of hours.
Just got my second Pfizer jab. Waiting in an uncomfortable, teetering folding chair for 12 more minutes to see if I collapse. Unremarkable so far. Sat close to the Fire Department EMT cause he was cute-reminded me of my sons.
Same sponsors, my county public health dept but in a different venue. Much harder to drive to but once inside less cacophonous and frantic. Actually flows better than I anticipated when I first walked in the door. Everyone, staff, volunteers, most clients cheerful and pleasant. The clients not cheerful just look apprehensive and confused. It all sorts out. Every single person is being considerate of every other person so it is all good. All in all seems like it my town it is going better than what other Dopers report. My mayor (and public health director) basically told my unrepentantly trumpian obstructionist governor “hands off”.
Wending my way back out to the parking lot. It is a bit of a walk but the sun is out. Will head home for what I plan to be another unremarkable day. I may have a microbrewery craft hard cider to celebrate. It is made about 3/4 mile from me and is always fun. I like bubbles in my booze.
THANK YOU!! Looking at the coding TIL how to do strikethrough on Discourse. The day goes into the “Plus” column on the strength of that alone.
After a nice, sunny week winter has returned for an encore. Rain all day yesterday and today, and probably tomorrow as well. Temps down near freezing last night and tonight as well. Makes for lots of low snow on the mountains behind the house but really screws up our Thursday Night Socially-Distanced Outdoor Beer Quaffing. Even with the fire pit it is just too bloody cold!
Second Pfizer jab is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. First one just left me with a sore arm for a few days. Hope the second one results in just the same or less.
It’s a bright sunny day here, not a cloud in the sky. Did I wake up somewhere else? Maybe Home on the Range?
I have paperwork to do today and will walk downtown to deliver cookies. That’s about it for plans.
Magus, Happy Birthday! I hope the lab results are due to something minor and easy to fix.
MetalMouse, I love that my family is close and that we talk so often. Plus it’s good to be needed. (P.S. I hope your brother decides to call you once in a while. Is he older or younger?)
Moooom, when I got the shingles shot a week or so ago, they told me not to get any other vaccines for at least 2 weeks. It was in the paperwork, too, so maybe that’s why FCD wasn’t told this? But then few people read the paperwork. Anyway, sorry for the delay.
shoe, I’d gladly contribute to a GFM, but I think you’re right and that it’s in your place somewhere. When I misplace papers, which is dismayingly often, I take one room at a time and mentally divide it into a grid. Then I look into everything in each square, including file folders I “know” couldn’t possibly contain the lost papers. It’s time-consuming and a PITA, but except for the time I lost my car registration, it’s worked.
Boo, glad you got jabbed again. Fingers crossed for no or mild side effects!
Whoo! and also: Hooo! We got emails yesterday afternoon from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and lept into action. We are scheduled for our second vaccination on the 25th. It will be a load off as we are both over 70 with pre-existing conditions. It’s gonna be a walk-in affair this time instead of a drive-by shooting, I suppose they have their reasons, but it makes it difficult for some seniors. Not us, but a couple of our friends will have to take their wheelchairs.
Sorry about FCDs shot Mom. Locally we were warned not to get any other vaccinations around the time of the Covid one, but I don’t remember what they said they’d do if one did. They made us hang around an extra 15 minutes afterwards because of my anaphylactic episode, but they shot me anyway.
Happy Thor’s day y’all.
I quit. I got the remaining garden bed raked out back and I pulled up all the edging because the bed is going to GROW!!! I have the dimensions for my raised bed so I know how far to move the edging. That’s tomorrow’s task - buying the 2X6 PT lumber and the landscape cloth. I hope to build and install the raised bed, line it, and load it with the nice topsoil FCD bought today. I’ll mix a bunch of Miracle Gro into it, too. Then it’ll be ready when my veggies sprout.
Once that’s done, I can lay out and install the edging, weed that area, and add topsoil before transplanting assorted stuff. There’s a monster liriope that need to be moved and probably divided. But that’s for tomorrow. I quit for today… I think. I may go out and dig up the plants that are in the way of my raised garden. Or not - we’ll see how motivated I feel in a bit.
According to my thermometer, it’s 77° in my back yard. This weekend, we’ll see highs in the 50s. Weather tease. Not amused.
I’m hoping for all the side effects to be from the celebratory bubbly booze drink I plan to have after my last errand for the day so I can say the vaccine made me tiddly and silly.
Mine was at a different site today too. Little confusing since I had figured out how to do it at the first site but it worked out. Mine at both places had a system, staffed with incredibly cheerful and eager volunteers, where anyone who needed to could drive up, drop off someone who could use their own wheelchair or one borrowed from a row the site had ready. Seemed to work slickly. Of course both places had gobs of handicapped parking as well as offering valet service for the car if that worked better. Hope that is the case for everyone where you are too.
My daughters went to High School with those guys.
