On American Idol (oh, shut up, I’m allowed a little junk food TV ) tonight, the announcement was made that finalist Christina Christian had taken ill–something about feeling stressed–and sent to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
From what I gather, it seems Christina had a bit of an anxiety attack. There is nothing in the online entertainment news about this just yet…all I know for certain is that she wasn’t there tonight. Just checking to see if anyone knows the digs here.
And, what sucks most for her, she was booted off the show tonight for receiving the least amount of votes.
I’m thinking that there are two reasons as to why Christina was booted:
Simon mentioned that she had a fiance. I know this sounds dumb, but I’m willing to be that she lost a lot of votes because of this information (i.e. young boys, etc.)
I’m thinking that, since everyone pretty much figured RJ was going home, the RJ fans mobilized and each called about a gazillion times, or just enough to save him.
Either way, he got lucky and I give him one more week.
On the up side, at least when Christina got booted she didn’t have to do it in front of America. She got to react naturally, rather than the fake smile-I’m-glad-I-got-this-far look that everyone else has to make.
I heard on the news this morning that she was dehydrated which can make you nauseated, light-headed, etc, so she was taken to the hospital where she was treated and kept overnight.
And I can’t help but think the voting results were manipulated to keep R.J. in the group. I think the producers want to keep the guys in the running as long as they can to keep young female viewers interested. Also having Cristina get the boot gave Simon the opportunity to be really snarky!
This is just my opinion. I can’t prove anything. I just don’t trust this show and the people who are making it.
It was weird how she suffered an anxiety attack and then got booted. A little too weird, perhaps? Don’t mind me, I’m just an American Idol obsessive. I think people may have gotten sick of the presentation of Christina as Simon’s favorite, who gets fawned over by him, while my lesbian girlfriend Kelly gets a mumbled “brilliant” and some sort of random dissing of Ryan Seacrest and the piano player–seriously, did anyone else notice that? I know Kelly has never been one of Simon’s favorites, but that was just totally rude.
Also, I guess I must be the only one, but I’m starting to find Brian Dunkleman kind of funny. And could the audience please shut up for just one second? God, those screaming girls are starting to get to me–they always take the opportunity to scream about Justin in moments that really aren’t about him. It’s not all about Sideshow Bob, kiddies. Ugh. How I loathe him.
My wife is not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but she wondered if Christina cracked under the pressure and asked to be let out of the show. She may be right, I can’t even fathom that R.J. and Nikki got more votes than Christina.
I’ve got to agree her absence seems a little suspicious. I’d say the theory ** Tiburon ** linked to is correct and she got kicked off for some rule violation, so they changed the voting results so they wouldn’t lose two contestants at once. That, or she somehow found out the voting results ahead of the show and refused to go on. It just seems too much of a coincidence that the person voted off just happened to not be able to make it to the taping.
The only reason I might think the whole thing was legit is that I can’t believe that even TV executives would be stupid enough to manipulate a vote like that. There would have to be several people involved, and the odds that it would stay secret are pretty slim. They would risk ruining what is turning out to be a major hit. The production costs of that show must be incredible low, that’s a lot of profit to risk.
How, how, how in the world could Christina get voted off and Nikki still be there? Makes no sense at all - I’m with the conspiracy theorists on this one.
Granted, I didn’t think Christina was particularly good, but Nikki was downright awful (IMHO), and RJ forgot the words for heaven’s sake!!
There’s no way Nikki or RJ got more votes than her. It’s rigged. Gotta be. Exactly right Morgainelf, RJ forgot the frigg’n words. It’s rigged! Gotta be!
I wondered if Christina’s illness might have been more serious than they said on the show, and so they dropped her out of the running for that reason. There is no way on earth that she should have gotten fewer votes than RJ.
Well actually there is one - it’s the same reason that Jim and AJ even made it to the finals in the first place. Simon told him after the performance that he sucked, and the Legions of Screaming Female Fans rallied to thumb their collective noses at mean ol’ Simon.
Re RJ being gay: wasn’t he talking about moving in with someone in one of the shows this week? I got the impression from that that he was talking about moving in with a girlfriend, although I can’t remember now whether he ever mentioned gender.
According to a Burt Bacharach website, and www.idolonline.org, next week is a Burt Bacharach theme. Hopefully, the contestants will pull it off better than Big Bands. God, I want to see Kelly sing “I say a little prayer.”
Hmm…looking at other sources, it’s still not completely confirmed, so I don’t want to be spreading lies. But Burt Bacharach, yo!! How cool would that be?
It’s all well and good to have conspiracy theories, but the fact is that, well, there are no facts to back 'em up. While I think Christina is a much better singer than RJ and Nikki (put together), both of them have their fans. RJ has the teenage girls, Nikki has the, um, people like her, I guess. Christina never really hooked fans. She is good, but not exciting.
If there truly was a medical reason for her to leave the show, I see no reason they wouldn’t have simply said so. One of the top 10 finalists in the UK version got a throat infection and had to drop out. It would be stupid of them to try to cover something up, because stuff like that always comes out, and it would kill their high-rated success story if it did.
