Yo.
My plan will be to follow the discussions and threads that appeal to me, wherever they appear. I almost dittoed what Ice Wolf said upthread, but I haven’t been here that long. As long as SDMB keeps having topics of interest, I’ll keep pitching in.
Starting threads? Can’t say for sure. May just be in Reply mode for a while.
It takes quite an effort to interpret SkipMagic’s post that way. In any case, he’s correct: take your criticisms to ATMB.
I’m liking the Giraffe board so far, but I’ll probably still continue to hang around here. It’s familiar, and lots of folks I’m partial to still post here.
I’ll probably end up dropping the subscription though.
I like Giraffe’s Board, I honestly never gave the other much of a chance, but here is where I’ll keep my horse tied to the post.
It’s nice to visit other places though, two other boards I know of from here still have me as a member as well. I don’t think it’s a this OR that issue.
I like cake, and eating it too.
I read a lot more than I post, and most of you probably have no idea who I am- but FWIW, I’m staying.
Day hikes to unexplored places? Sure. But this is base camp.
I’d like to see Domebo develop into it’s own thing, and not be just not-the-SDMB. I’ll post there but I’m staying here. While I agree with many of the recent complaints, the whole thing just isn’t that big a deal for me.
You’ll know we stayed when you see us around, no?
I’ll do both. Why wouldn’t I? I’m not that invested in the politics here that a little rule-changing by TPTB would change my enjoyment of interacting with all you loons.
I’m staying here, but I’ve registered and posted at the other boards too.
I know in the scheme of things the rules changes don’t affect me, hell I can’t even pit correctly, but the tone on the boards has changed. There are other things going on that I can’t quite put my finger on, but I’m toughing it out.
I love this place, have met some Dopers in real life who are incredibly nice people, and want to keep talking with them.
I’m staying here. I don’t see any reason to change.
Right now the new boards are in their honeymoon periods. Everyone’s excited and enthusiastic and posting lots. They haven’t been invaded by trolls or had any flamewars yet. The moderators haven’t had to make any of the inevitable hard decisions that piss people off.
So it’s really an open question whether domebo and giraffe will be better than the SDMB, or worse. They both certainly suffer from the handicap of not having a good mechanism to bring in new blood. “The Straight Dope” is a moderately well-known brand. That and SDMB’s longevity makes it much easier for random newbies to stumble on the forums.
I’m also staying. I remember the complaints about pay to post a few years ago. I don’t spend that much time in the Pit, so the changes there don’t really bother me. If I could access message boards at work, I’d probably check out the other ones. But, I only really have time for this one and a couple of other ones on which I spend far less time.

I GOT NOWHERE ELSE TO GO!

All this time, and the perfect answer was waiting for you to put it right.
Like she said…
And who you callin’ a loon?
:dubious:
Oh, I’m staying. I’ve lurked through much drama over the years (wait, how many again? Yeesh. Imagine if I had devoted that time to anything productive.) and vividly remember the dark mutterings at the beginning about how different things were from the good old days on AOL. The SDMB’s still here, and so am I.
The Asia Times forums are great. I post at http://spengler.atimes.net It comes across as a bit of a raucous expat bar. The host is a bit of a crazy ideologue who goes between fiscal conservatism and religious extremism but it attracts some really good posters. It’s a bit wilder than here, you’re more likely to have the straight up racists, but there are also the sort of people more than willing to shout them down.
The other Asia Times forums are regional and you see an interesting mix of people and see arguments about the deeper layers of political issues than you might see here. It’s definitely different from the boring liberal and conservative stuff you get here. It’s the same kind of deal but instead of liberal vs conservative you have Chinese Nationalists going against Indian Nationalists.
I find that on this board I get very good technical information, but in terms of the underlying cultural aspects of things there is very little for me to learn. As much as atheists may think their views are hard to understand, I haven’t heard anything new about atheism in the ten years I’ve posted here. It’s the same exact argument recycled over and over and over by the same people even. The religious types who really know their stuff don’t tend to get in the mud with the atheists. On the other board you can have a discussion with Muslims, Atheists, Neo-Pagans, Christians and Jews all going at it balls out.
I’ll probably stay - I didn’t get a personalised invitation like some people - although I’ve posting less and less over the last year or two, I still feel some sense of belonging here, and haven’t the energy to start over somewhere else…
Grim
I’ll be here until the end.
It seems to me the folks in an uproar are deeply involved in forums I’ve never opened. And their argumentation makes me think I’m pleased to see them go elsewhere.
An SDMB with 80+% of its current posters still here and 80+% of its current drama elsewhere would suit me fine.
Boardwars and pay-to-post and rule changes and I’m still here. I guess I’m staying. I’ll probably take a look around from time to time, but one of the others is still too small to be much and the other is a format I’d have to learn to be comfortable with.
Things change, but I haven’t seen any reason yet to take my marbles and go home.
