For me, the reason I wouldn’t do that is that I don’t want to be involved on multiple message boards. This forum is the greatest time-waster I personallly have – and I mean “greatest” both in the sense of “best” and in the sense of “biggest”.
I don’t want to get interested in other MBs for the same reason I don’t want to try, say, deep-fried oreos. Worst case scenario, I really, really like them. They aren’t good for me, and no good can come from them to me personally.
I make no judgment on other people’s choices, but there are reasons not to stray that don’t amount to being in love with how things have gone over here lately, either.
Well put. I’ve registered and posted at the other 2, but I realy find it “fatiguing” keeping up with all 3. This morning I was thinking about starting a thread, but I know this is the place to post it if I want the most response. And even tho there are a few people I like/respect/enjoy at the other boards, I believe there are far more here.
While I do not consider many of the recent changes desireable, I think SDMB still serves my purposes adequately.
I registered at one of the splinter boards, but immediately realized that I didn’t want to go anywhere. If the SDMB starts to fizzle, maybe I could…I don’t know…do some work or something.
That was actually my point. The long-term viability of the splinter boards will depend on their ability to pull in new blood on their own, not just pick up defectors from the SMDB.
I’m registered at both of the new boards, but I’m still going to spend most of my board time here. It’s gotten a bit quieter here, but there’s still lots of traffic.
Two new boards with a couple of significant differences from the SDMB but otherwise very similar? As far as I’m concerned, there’s no reason not to visit all of them. It’s all good.
For many of us, it’s not just the new rules on name-calling in The Pit. I don’t really care about that - in my seven years here, I made exactly one Pit post in which I told another poster to… well, go have sexual relations with himself.
As Q.E.D. and What Exit? said, there’s more to it than that. It’s the uneven and often heavy-handed moderating, along with promises to fix the board, which just generated snarky replies from the Administrators and Tech Staff. Many posters would ask when things will be running smoothly (like the Search function and the constant time-outs), only to get a reply along the lines of, “When I get around to it.”
If you think some of us are leaving over not being about to use certain words anymore, you’re sadly mistaken.
I’m at all three. I’m finding myself at domebo more than here or Giraffe. I like the look better, I like the image forum, I like the feel. I’m still at all 3, for now…
I haven’t the energy to keep up with multiple boards, and even if I did, well, all this has reminded me of the other things I could be doing with my time. I’ve got a lot of exciting stuff going on in the present and future, and upping my message board habit can only mean missing out.
I’m at all three, plus Fathom occasionally, which moves too slowly for my short attention span. I suspect that after the initial excitement/inflated inaugural activity/cathartic talk about moving from SDMB (a lot of that it appears on DoMeBo-- understandable but. . .) that the two new boards will slow down to a more Fathomy pace (nothing wrong with that). I don’t start new threads usually so I expect I’ll just post to threads I find interesting wherever. I like the small scale of the new places and the vibe that brings. We’ll see.
