So who has quite the board the most times?

And so now you find it necessary to tease me about my unfortunate endomorphism. Have you no decency, sir? At long last, have you no decency?

oops yeah I should spell check, I think I have a rant filed somewhere on why I seldom spell-check. Anyhooo, while I don’t see this thread as a pit worthy one, since I’m not asking for rants or having one myself, I just thinks it’s hella’ funny to see people quit the board and then not actually quit the board.

Frankly I did this with IRC a numbewr of years ago, but I changed my nick so no one would know I was coming back on my knees. Then I got bored and just departed from it rather than having a huge production number about it.

Same with here, I was a really regular user, then I changed jobs and work schedule and I think there is something like a one year gap in my postings. I never announced it I just got temporaritly bored (and unfortunately missed some great flameouts). I can see why this wasn’t really GQ wortly as stated, however.

So IMHO people who “announce” they are going to quit, seem to be the least likely to actually do so.

Yeah it would. I’m going to start doing this now. dj, you get to start at the top because you gave me the idea.

Some people in this thread need a time out.

Who is “we”?

You are so right.

Somebody lose a sock?

I envy your willpower.

The “we” that is me ???

Real question is whether the sock and the original poster behind said sock will get banned? It looked like someone trying to be cute, if that matters at all.

Another minor point- if people stopped posting to SDMB because the posts were simple cries for attention- the daily post count would drop 50%.

Some people post even the most tragic personal news here as a matter of course. Maybe doing so helps with the pain. Doing so could also be called a cry for attention as well. But is it wrong?

Of course, a few people have devolved into simple attention whores, but most of them are either (a) clever, or (b) hard to avoid looking at, like a car wreck (you know you shouldn’t look, but. . . . ).

I took a hiatus, at one point, but I was specific at the time that it was temporary. Some people still concluded I was ‘quiting’. Lesson learned: Net time I need a break, I go out the back door, quietly.

Sure, but how to differentiate between the simple cries for attention and the complicated cries for attention? Such a conundrum! Such a quandary! Such a dilemma!

I’m quitting for 24 days starting this Saturday. It will be interesting to see what kinds of withdrawl symptoms arise.

How many days do you get before falling back into ignorance?

whats the 24 days for?

you will be missed

Well, I gotta back up dalovindj on this one, sort of, and I can’t name names either because it last happened so long ago I can’t remember who. But I most definitely remember there being a few occasions where people “quit the boards” with what had to be calculated dramatic flair. Granted, I have to speculate on their motives, but given the wording, the context, and so on, it seemed pretty likely to me that they were fishing for a whole bunch of people to beg them not to leave.

I’m not talking about people who notify friends via the boards that they are going to be absent, or are taking a break. There are reasonable ways to do that and there have (blessedly) been many examples. I’m talking about those other Professional Victims.

Maybe the reason I also can’t name names is that I stopped reading anything they wrote soon thereafter, and thus they’ve been out of my memory for some time.

I’m going with my SO on his gig with the Cirque du Soleil. I’m sure I could find a library or a Kinko’s somewhere but that’s only if the withdrawl symptoms become too much for me to bear :).

Thanks vanilla I will miss you too

we will keep you updated on any conversions…

This thread is becoming a sock magnet. I’m going to close it. Don’t open up a new one like it.
