Let’s see, just off the top of my head we have coming out around this fall/winter:
Arkham City, Skyrim, a complete face-lift/update to City of Heroes, Star Wars: Old Republic (just by itself, will be a huge time sink I imagine), Rage (new post apocalyptic game from Bethesda), LotR: War in the North and Mass Effect 3 (later in the winter but still…).
Also for every gamer who isn’t me, there’s a new Call of Duty. Wow! I just might have to quit my job (but then how will I buy all these games? hmmmm…)
Rage is an id game. It’s published by Bethesda but that’s not really meaningful. The new call of duty game is going to be the exact same as the last 3, only probably worse because it’s three new game studios collaborating rather than IW. BF3 and Red Orchestra 2 will mostly be massively better. MW3 will still outsell both of them combined I’m sure - a Call of Duty game made by a special ed student as an extra credit project would still sell 7 million copies.
Arkham City, Skyrim, SWTOR, and ME3 are all on my list. But my biggest want right now is Zelda: Skyward Sword and Sonic Generations, those are my two favorite franchises and I want those games more than anything.
Arkham City is a “probably buy”. I loved Arkham Asylum, but I never got close to finishing it. I just have a hard time pushing myself to finish games like that.
Rage intrigues me slightly, however, there have been enough hyped games recently that didn’t deliver at all (Brink, Homefront, Crysis 2). No, unfortunately, the only “safe” game, and I say it’s safer because Infinity Ward is out of it, is Modern Warfare 3. Battlefield 3 is also extremely intriguing, but are they going to learn to build a rudimentary lobby system and to stop arbitrarily gimping their chat system?
Skyrim is also pretty much a buy for me, too. There are a few good games coming out, but only one or two I’ll consider getting on release day.
Given there’s beta leaks everywhere that indicate the game is more or less done and given all the trailers and other marketing material they are spewing out these days, I’d be very surprised to see the game pushed to 2012.
I told my girlfriend that come November, don’t expect to see me move from the couch until March.
Coming out are Assassins Creed: Revelations, God of War: Origins (for those not familiar with the franchise, the two PSP titles are being rerendered in HD), Prototype 2, and Konami is rerendering Metal Gear Solids 1 through 3 in HD for the PS3. I’ll probably also pick up Skyrim at some point. On top of it all, the NFL season is only a breath away and I still have several projects due in Minecraft.
I’m probably going to be spending much of the winter replaying Mass Effect 2 so that I can get various desirable save games to transfer over into ME3.
I’d probably love SWTOR, but I’m already Bioware’s bitch and I recently kicked my WoW habit; I don’t need to completely surrender all my non-work waking hours to them.
