What’s a plausible volume of beer in a barrel, 15gal? Then 9100 gallons. 32gal? 19,000 gallons.
3gal (surely not!)? 1900 gallons.

I may make an appearance (and knock off a couple of other long-overdue tasks while down beyond the Orange Curtain) if things all segue together. If not, I’ll tip over a glass in memoriam while flying over Arizona.
Stranger
A standard keg holds 32 gallons. 600 kegs times 32 gallons each = 19200 gallons.
So, a serving, right?
A small, sure.
Now you see the concern I had.
There’s a chance I’ll make it.
iamthewalrus(:3=, any chance of getting a ride down there with you? I’ll probably take the train back Monday, so you’d only have to tolerate me on the way down. No big deal if it’s a problem. Drop me an email if it’s a possibility.
Been doing a little research here on what beers I will be consuming.
If we run out of things to try at the Yard House, we can always repair across the street to Goat Hill Tavern, which also has 47 bazillion beers on tap. Not to mention a Champagne Brunch (a bottle of Dom Perignon and 2 chili dogs.)
Now that sounds like our kind of place.
The Goat Hill Tavern is more of a down and dirty kind of place. Last time I was there, I saw a small cockroach running across my table. Not to deter people from going there, they have many beer choices too, but don’t expect first-class surroundings. They had a window in the back where you could peer into the beer storage area, and I’ve never seen such an imbroglio of tubes. I can’t figure out how they can possibly know which keg goes into which tap.
Of course, the Yardhouse could be exactly the same behind the scenes.
Please. You give the place much too much credit. It’s a dive, pure and simple. I spent many a forgotten summer’s evening in that place when I was but a lad.
The Yard House’s beer lines are actually pretty well organized and labeled. At least the one in San Diego’s are. Little chance of ordering Duvel and getting Harp.
yeah that may be true, but any place that serves a bottle of Dom Perignon and 2 chili dogs sounds like our kind of place.
Two things:
a) The wife is out of town, so she won’t be joining us.
b) I ate all the Cumin-cured Olives, so I had to find something to substitute in the raffle. Do you think a bottle of homemade 6 year old cherry mead will suffice?
And considering it’s right next to The Helm, that’s saying something…
For the more genteel crowd, The Harp isn’t far away…
Not to mention Hi-Times Liquor, which is where I’m going shopping before the Fest. Sure, there’s a Bevmo in the same center as the Yard House, but Hi-Times has more…weird stuff.
Ooh, look…they have Pappy Van Winkle’s 20 year old!
Hi Times rules. You can find damned near anything there. Good cigars, too. And it used to be right around the corner from Winchell’s Donuts- a heavenly combination!
Okay, I’m sure I’m going to get Arnold’s wrath for being a flip-flopper, but I think I can change my appearance to a definite “maybe.” The thing I thought I was going to have Sunday turns out to be tomorrow, which leaves me with a sudden free day that I just don’t know how to spend.
Oh deary me, what to do.
Southern California Dopefest
Date: Sunday 27 April 2008
Time: 13:00 (1:00 PM)
Place: Yard House, Costa Mesa
1875 Newport Boulevard, Costa Mesa, California 92627 (949) 642-0090
Description of meeting place:
The Yard House is an upscale-casual eatery known for its extensive menu, classic rock music, and world’s largest selection of draft beer. From classic lagers to more obscure ales and stouts there’s a draft beer flavor for everyone. Each Yard House location features a transparent keg room containing more than 600 barrels, some 1,000 gallons of beer, and an endless fleet of tap handles - 130 to 250 - depending on the location. The menu of American cuisine includes an impressive selection of appetizers, salads, pastas, sandwiches, individual-size pizzas, seafood, steaks, ribs and chops. Late-night dining is available, and each restaurant can accommodate groups for large parties. For pint-size guests the kid’s klub includes a 12 page activity book, fresh to order menu items and a kustom kooler. The Yard House plays classic rock and roll on its state of the art sound system while an abundance of flat screens showcase the day’s sports and special events.
