Which is even more excellent!!!
No, it really feels like good news. It just doesn’t FEEL like good news. I mean, I’m not a masochist.
Ha! When my kids were kids and I was teaching, I didn’t swear because I was afraid I’d say, “*#@%$!” when I shouldn’t. If I stubbed my toe at home or got a paper cut in class, I sounded likeYosemite Sam: “Yeeow! That consarned, shnapple-frackin’ son of a cactus!” I’m sure you’re adept at the ol’ switcheroo: “Holy fu–uh, fuhgetabout it!” “Shi…ver me timbers!” “God…am I going crazy?”
Are you allergic to the adhesive then? That sounds like zero fun. Yay on your lovely wife’s good news and on the home improvements!
And it’s less time for PWAISDN and me to be in a church. ![]()
Late dinner for me and PWAISDN tonight. His last client took far longer than anticipated. Plan was for me to go to his shop after work for a pre-trip trim, so I was there at 5:20. Said client ended up needing a color correction to eliminate whatever badly done color had been done to her hair by some other stylist, so by the time she was looking good, and I got my trim, it was 8:15.
Plan A was to go to the pho place across the lane from his building. Nope. Closed. Plan B was a nearby place we’ve been to several times. Nope. Closed. When did this city start rolling up the sidewalks at 8 PM?
Plan C? That place you never meant to go to, but you end up at because they’re open - Denny’s. When the server said they had no soup, I was about to say “F this and let’s just go to Jack in the Box.” How don’t they have soup? The way he said “No, we don’t have soup” made it sound like the menu is wrong and that they don’t ever have soup, rather than “Oh, I’m sorry but we ran out tonight.” At least they never disappoint. You go there expecting mediocrity, and they always deliver.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Last funeral I went to was a hybrid Methodist/Baptist funeral, and I got stuck watching the Baptist preacher’s 5 year old and 6 month old. The 5 five year old had hiccups, and during the eulogy, the 6 month old reached over and pulled my finger, which took all my self control to not burst out laughing, which might have been bad:
Preacher: “Mary was a sweet and kind person…”
Me: “BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!”
Congregation: ![]()
Especially the door to the beer fridge.
Yay!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 64 and N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ I shall take care of candle duty over to the church house. OYKW will accompany me and then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up Grill. This will take care of the major need to feed today. The usual sloth and general overall uselessness will occupy the rest of the day.
Lily glad the wife is doin’ better and glad you got yourself checked out and are in good shape. Glad the junk removal and dry wall stuff went well.
gotti you’re right re Denny’s and other places of its ilk. You know the experience will be meh and they never disappoint.
JtC this is GG, so chances are he’ll forget he opened a door, or maybe associate it with crabby old chat showin’ up and never do it again.
doggio Happy Heavin’!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life is just so hard!
Happy Firday Y’all!
It’s especially wonderful when you find competent, reliable folk to do it!
FCD woke again in the middle of the night and went to watch TV. Not usually a big deal, but he didn’t turn the volume down and the TV is aimed at the hallway that leads to our bedroom, so I was awake at stoopit o’clock, dammit! He was apologetic, so he gets points for that. I’m starting to think he needs to get his hearing checked - his radio, his computer, and his TV volume settings strike me as rather high. And considering his dad wore hearing aids, it’s not outside the realm of possibilities…
Not sure what today holds, apart from no kidlet. I want to make a run to the convenience center, and I could do laundry. Plus I want to change the bed - do you change sheets on a regular schedule or when you start thinking “I should probably change the sheets…”? I don’t generally think about it, and that’s probably not good. Anyway, I guess I’ve got enough going on to keep me occupied for a while.
Another notice from Motor Vehicles that I can’t register my car till the tax liability (?) is resolved. So I forwarded the info to our accountant, hoping she can resolve it quickly. Then I need to send her some fancy chocolates or something - she’s a peach!
Best of all - two weeks from today, we’re going on our long-overdue mini-vacation. I am sooooooo ready!
Happy Firday!!
Good morning, everyone.
It’s currently 33 degrees and dark with an expected high of 45 and cloudy to partly cloudy skies for the day.
I have read all, but retained little.
gotti, I am sorry about your mother. I hope the funeral and all associated with it goes smoothly.
sari, I am glad Ripple seems to be doing better. I hope things work out with Cerby.
lily, it is the BEST feeling when large home projects are done. I felt so after a completed a huge purge. I hired a dumpster and just started loading it up. I got rid of a daybed, a huge sectional, some other furniture, and crap from every closet in the house. It was such a good feeling!
johnny, sorry about the nursemobile.
nellie, I’m glad the knee will heal on its own, and I’m glad the doc actually took the time to see if there was really an issue. My doc, or rather the crabby PA who saw me, barely acknowledged what I was dealing with and told me to come back. No x-rays, nothing. Two years on, and the knee is still troublesome.
BBBoo, I am sorry about your knee. I hope you find relief. soon.
I have had to go to the office for the last two days. The first day, if you may recall, was because of a retirement luncheon for someone at the office. My Haupia (Hawaiian Coconut Pudding) turned out pretty well and was eaten. One pan would have been enough, though. I had to go yesterday because I had stupidly left my docking station at the office. I was highly annoyed. I hate carting that thing back and forth, and I usually remember it, but for some reason, I just spaced on Wednesday afternoon. At any rate, I went back to the office yesterday and worked from there. Because of that, I only have to do one day at the office next week.
I am seriously considering buying a docking station on my own, but the one I need is over $300. I can afford it; it’s just the principle of the thing. They only provide one docking station; I get why, but it’s still annoying. We can purchase docking stations for employees at the office, but it would become expensive. My MPA was trying to convince me just to let her purchase one for me since we’re already doing the same for the new deputy, but I told her I didn’t think it was right. If we buy one, we should buy one for all. I’m not comfortable doing that, and I don’t think it’s a good use of our budget funds, especially considering we’ve been told our budget is likely to be slashed by 30%. And, frankly, it just boils down to personal responsibility. I screwed up and should have remembered the darn thing.
I hope your daughter starts looking at daycare alternatives soon, FCM.
I need to get my Jeep into the shop and get it serviced. It’s overdue for an oil change by about 2,000 miles. Time just got away from me.
The weekend is finally here, HUZZAH! Although it was a “short” week, it still felt long. Probably because I had to spend two days at the office, but there you have it.
I hope you all have a good day!
Happy morning, folks.
It’s a cloudy, 31F out there, this morning. It’ll be getting all the way up to around 36F. Windy, too. I hope my water bottles (5 gallon each) don’t blow off the porch. I need to put them out there, since today is our bottled water delivery day.
I don’t know what the day will hold, other than the usual hovelwork. I’m trying to decide what I want for dinner. It’s best that I try to plan ahead, since I’m trying to eat better. I asked my daughter to pick me up a package of keto buns. If I want a cheeseburger, they’ll help make that happen, rather than just having a naked burger. Meh.
Yesterday, I roasted a smallish cabbage steak, along with a little bit of onion, mushrooms, garlic, and bell pepper. It didn’t phase my BG a bit. That surprised me, since there were some carbs in there. I guess the fiber wiped out the carbs. Works for me. I could’ve had a salad, but, even though I LOVE salad, I don’t want to burn out on it. The same with the roasted vegetables.
I ended up making a couple of bigass Stromboli, yesterday, too. One for my daughter, and one for my friend. They love them, so, it kept me somewhat occupied for awhile, and I made two people happy. Win-win! ![]()
Oh, and I didn’t even taste any of it! I have willpower! I need to keep remembering that!
I have found that the only way to keep my BG levels reasonable, is to not eat a damned thing, other than my low carb meal. Once a day. It’s difficult. But, I am doing it. So far, anyway. I just need to sustain it. I hope I drop weight, too. Surely it’ll help.
Have a good day, folks.
I looked at it when she got home. The (plastic) bumper is off on the left side, and has a crack in it. No doubt it will need to be replaced. The (metal) fender is bent a little. Doesn’t look bad, but she’s going to use my Prius today. Her patient’s insurance company left a message on her phone, and she’ll call them in a couple of hours.
Morning all. Down to 41F when I retrieved the paper today, only getting to the low 50’s so a bit like boo fae’s weather, except without clouds. Swimming -n- sauna are planned, we’ll see what else the day brings. Just paid my credit card bills, which were…considerable, between stuff for the Great Southern Adventure, car maintenance, and a new camera besides the normal stuff. So the account is looking a little peaked right now.
ace, best of luck on that willpower; the Diet soda experiment is going pretty well so far at Casa Rat, we’ll see if I can stick to it.
FCM, start the countdown!!
gotti, For me it’s IHOP for mediocre food served in an average way, but I do understand about Denny’s. Hope the travel goes well.
nellie, when I want to…express myself…without cussing, I say “Raskolnikov”, who apparenty is a character in the novel “Crime and Punishment”, which I have never ever read, but must have heard to name somewhere. It’s obscure and Russian, so few know what it is I’m muttering…
JtC, I concur that GG probably won’t remember being able to open the door, and GG/Grumpy’s relationship reminds me of an old Warner Brother’s cartoon…Looney Tunes Full Cartoon - Bugsy and Mugsy (1957) Full 1080p [Bugs Bunny 80th Collection] - YouTube
BBBoo, my knees have been quiet lately, but I watch them, because one of these days…take care of yourself.
OK, need to finish the morning internettin’ and find some sustenance. All y’all take care.
nellie, glad that nothing major is wrong with your knee. I hope that it feels better soonest.
JtC, GG and the door cracked me up. When I had cats, I lived on the second floor of an old Craftsman style house that had settled a bit. The doors could be opened by bumping them just right and Figaro, my big psycho-kitty, figured out how to do it, meaning that the only way to isolate her was a crate.
Glad you and the missus are feeling better lily.
Moooooom, I change my sheets every other week, or rather wash them and return them to the bed.
It saves trying to fold that !@#$ing fitted sheet.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, sheets / towels in the dryer, jeans in the wash and everything else on deck. Houseirk shall commence soon.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
We have given up entirely on the local IHOP. That location doesn’t even qualify to be considered mediocre.
I’ve eschewed cereals for the past few years, as part of the low-carb diet. (Lost a bunch of weight, but bounced up. Been stuck at 210 for a while now.) Today I just couldn’t stand it anymore. I made a serving of steel-cut oats that are in the cupboard (27 g carbohydrates, 2 g soluble fibre, 2 g insoluble fibre; net 23 g carbohydrates). I love porridge cooked with dried cranberries, or with a spoonful of jam. But I had it the Scottish way for the first time in my life, with some salt and cream. It was good. Now I feel like going outside and digging up stumps. (But I’m working.)
Yesterday morning I went to therapy and the grocery store, and then had two afternoon meetings. So, all of my possible “post during the day” time disappeared – though I did manage to stay caught up on the thread.
But it was good to take care of the little bit of shopping I needed to do, plus I found some roasted chicken sliders at the deli: they (and a banana) made for one of the yummiest lunches I’ve had in a while!
Now it’s lunchtime again, but I have no idea what I want today (except another banana). I’ll figure it out when I wander into the kitchen, which will be right after I click “reply.”
The latter. I tend to keep the same sheets on the bed for a loooong time; it’s the messiest thing about me.
I hear you!
My customer recently updated our laptops, and the new laptop doesn’t work with the docking station I’d bought myself and had been using at home for nearly three years (they stopped issuing any peripherals before I joined the program). And my employer doesn’t loan out corporate peripherals for use with government-furnished equipment (GFE): whenever I go to the office again I’ll be able to get a different docking station for use at my cubicle, but I can’t take one home. And, of course, the docking stations that work with the new GFE are hundreds of dollars. I whined and moaned about it to my dog for a while before finally getting one.
I know you’re talking about oatmeal/porridge, but I used to have cereal (usually Cheerios) for lunch a lot: these days it’s too much solid and liquid at the same time and doesn’t sit well with me (even with a minimal amount of milk), but it’s one thing I really miss from my pre-op eating habits. I figure at 14 months out I’m likely pretty set in terms of what I can tolerate, but I might have to try it again in a while.
(I also used to have a lot of oatmeal: the last time I tried some I was able to tolerate it well enough, but it’s become one of those “usually not worth the calories/carbs” foods for me.)
I change our sheets weekly, the sheets on the spare bed get changed whenever someone has slept in it or when I notice that it’s covered with cat fur.
Big excitement today, GG caught a mouse. We haven’t seen signs of mice in the house and he could have caught it in the catio and brought it it but we aren’t sure. Today everything is getting pulled away from the walls (and floors cleaned) and the pantry will be emptied out and content checked.
We are both fairly certain we don’t have mice in the house, but we need to be sure.
I’ve found that it helps to sleep with a pillow between your knees when sleeping on the side opposite the offending knee. It helps eliminate the torqueing of that joint.
I did it again, tripped on the rug in the living room and now I have a cracked kneecap. Will be in a brace but at least there is no need for surgery, I need to learn that old ladies have crunchier bones.,
I need good idea on something to thank my sister, and my BIL, for all the help I get. They are well off, so it can’t be money. Maybe a donation to a charity?
I hate mice, not scared of them, but they disgust me.
That sucks. Take care of yourself and follow your doctor’s orders!
Does your sister like flowers? Failing that, Heifer International has a pretty good charity rating and they always send a thank you card detailing how a gift of chicks or a goat has helped a family.
I’m not afraid of mice, but they have no bladder control and tend to leave trails of pee wherever they go. I do not want icky mouse pee and poop in my home. We haven’t found any evidence of infestation in the kitchen, so we are taking a short break before moving to the pantry.
