Southern California Doper Bash, Can it be done?

Ok. I was afraid to do this.
But, Chicago and New York and everyone seemed to have quite a bit of fun. I wanted to see if any of us shiney happy people would be interested in getting together for a SDMB southland fest.

I don’t have any ideas of the wheres or whens. Just trying to find out if anyone is interested.

Whaddya all think? Is there enough of us?

I’m up for it! I’m in North Hollywood, and I have a car.

Remember, I’m pulling for you; we’re all in this together.

I’m in! I’m in West Covina (east of Pasadena) and ready to roll!

Let’s par-tay!

Lets. I’m North Hollywood-ish… any non-Valley dopers want to chime in?

Shared pain is lessened; shared joy is increased.

La Canada here!

Hell, schedule it right and maybe I’ll make it! (anyone got a spare couch? :))

I’m in Mar Vista (just east of Venice in L.A.) – any other West Side types?

Catrandom

I am down near San Juan Capistrano and I would go.

Say I know of the perfect place to meet too. A great baar in Long Beach which is pretty centrally located called the Blue Cafe. Great Jazz Blues club that got a great pool hall upstairs.

or of course we could all meet at the Rainbow Room and beat up Guns and Roses.

Live in Pasadena.
Work in Long Beach.

Blue Cafe is a great idea!

If I could join my feeble voice to the chorus, I’m in Orange County (Costa Mesa.)

Blue Cafe?
Jazz?
Sounds great.
When is a good time for everyone?
What day?
I would need it to be a weekend, hopefully a Saturday, because thats a long drive for me to make on a Friday night. But, I would love to go. I love Jazz. So, that makes it even better.

Although, beating up Guns and Roses would be fun. I think its time to lay off. They need to get some straight jobs. I hear Axl is going for a teacher position. With all these class size reductions, he might have a shot.

Well it depends on whose playing that night but a definite Saturday is good. A lot of good bands play there too like Cadillac Tramps and Big Sandy and the Fly Rite Boys.

I tell you what…I will go look at the bands playing on the coming Saturdays and we can all agree on one.

We will get a RSVP later together

Canoga Park here…

And unless a majority of folk are from the south, I think Long Beach is a terrible idea and I probably wouldn’t go if it were there. Hate the down, and it’s a hellish drive. So far there seem to be a lot more Valley and Westsiders, couldn’t we meet closer to the airport or something?

Of course, I’m just one lone voice…

Hey whatever is fine with me. Oh and the Long Beach suggestion is at the harbor. But its not liek there are not more places to meet

Rainbow Room
Club Liquid
House of Blues
Viper Room

Hell we could meet at Tommy’s Famous for all I care (not a bad idea actually…could do with a Super Tommy Chili Buger with everything)

The House of Blues would probably be pretty good Pretty central and everyone knows where it is

House of Blues is good!

-Melin

Ugh. The House of Blues makes me shudder.
But, if thats what it takes, I am down with it.
Whereever it will be will be a bit of a haul, so I am prepared.
What is Tommy’s Famous?
Wouldn’t House of Blues be a bit loud for a gettogether?

pat

Tommy’s Famous Hamburgers is the LA version of In and Out. Makes the best chiliburgers on the planet.

Anyone else got some suggestions? I just hitting some places I have frequented.

Yeah, House of Blues seems a little trendy and noisy for a bunch of Dopers to get together and say howdy. I don’t have a better idea, i’m just complaining.

Stoid

Well, we could go to Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood and mock all the crap on the walls. Not quite as noisy as the HOB, either.

(And hell, we could mock celebs if they show. Last time I was at Planet Hollywood, Magic Johnson and Arsenio Hall were there.)

I used to think the world was against me. Now I know better. Some of the smaller countries are neutral.

Laura’s Stuff and Things

But Hard Rock and Planet Hollywood are so expsensive, and touristy and yucky. I love mocking things. But, those places are just so yucky. Dont ya think?

I can only think of good places in Ventura and Santa Barbara. So, I wouldnt be one to suggest.
But, I think the place should be more quiet than loud. Which is why I liked Heath’s first choice. It has a pool room, so I figured there would be places for straight dope folk to talk.
Another thing I think I don’t like about HOB is the fact that there is no parking or anything around there, and on a Saturday its hard to get in and out. Well, that stuff is really secondary to the contempt I have for that place. But, anyway.

I am racking my brain trying to think of a good place.
I was talking to a friend who lives down that way. She suggested a place called Cat N Fiddle. I don’t know anything about it, but she said it was a fun place, thats good for a group because its not too loud. But, since I know nothing of the place I just wanted to put it out there.
