Means I get to act like a student- definitely not the same
Yeah Nut!! Adult/Student, bah, act as you will and enjoy, if not prosperity, at least solvency.
FCM, was in Miami and Key West for a couple days last week, masks have pretty well disappeared there (to be honest, they’ve done the same here in Ali-bama) and folks are flocking to crowded events…I doubt your in-laws friends will be the last, sad to day.
Not a fan of DQ Blizzards, but now you all have me thinking about the last time I had a triple-scoop butter pecan waffle cone…
shoe, glad the zit is no more.
OK, probably best to do the shopping early, it’s 76F now and heading for 97F again, so best be inside before the furnace starts. Have a good Firday, all.
Afternoon, mumpers! I have largely been missing this week, work has been crazy despite it supposedly being one of our quieter times. Tosh, I say!
Belated happies, Swampy! I did manage to get the right day in the Book of Faces though, so not altogether late.
I have read but not retained much so hugs and trouts as applicable - take what you need!
Thanks, nellie and ratty. Today is a little bit better than yesterday. I’m a tad less numb, a bit more able to focus and the fog is starting to fade. When my doctor actually prescribed exercise for my depression a few years ago, I thought it was really stupid, but apparently it works for me. He said he’d rather focus on lifestyle change to avoid interacting with medication I’m already taking. But yeah, the hardest part is forcing the time to do it when everything feels like it’s crashing down. But the second I stop, the creep starts again.
Anyway, it’s sticky and gross outside. It poured last night and, since it was nearly 100 F it felt like bathwater coming down in sheets, and it didn’t cool anything whatsoever - just made it even more sticky. But the thunder & lighting were nice.
Well, off to work. We’re having a “big reveal” organizational announcement today. People tell me things I can’t un-hear, so I know what it is, but they’ve pushed the meeting off twice, probably for succession planning. It’ll be nice when we can officially all know about it and I don’t have to keep it to myself. Work people have been blowing up my phone for the last week and I am done with it. I’ll be interested to see if I still have a job in six months.
Finally stopped being sticky & gross outside, here in western Mitten State. Looks like Coolio gets a break again - lows may touch into the 50s tonight whaaaaat?!
Back from the playground. Roxy wants to make friends with everyone, but not everyone appreciates her efforts. Still, she managed to find some kids to play with for a while.
FCD got fed up with one guy who had made him crazy for years. After 3 calls before 8AM today, he just blocked him. From what I’ve heard, I can’t blame him. Anyway, he’s back in his office doing stuff. This weekend, we’ll take more of his books and other work things, including the computers, to his new office.
I just tossed a load of pants and shorts in the washer. It’s hot enough that they’ll dry in no time, and there’s no rain forecast for today, dammit. I may even run a load of t-shirts after.
But first, lunch.
Good morning everyone.
I wanted to post yesterday, but I went to the office and once I got there, it was non-stop all day. I didn’t get out of there until evening and then it took me over an hour to get home. At any rate, I did get to wish our Swampy Happy Birthday on the book of faces.
My vacation has begun! Unfortunately, I’ll be checking emails because of some stuff completely out of my control that blew up yesterday, but I am hoping the leadership team can take care of things on their own. If not, they can reach me.
It’s gonna be a hot one today; 94 degrees, which means it’ll probably be a tad bit warmer here.
I’m sorry about both your pup and job, gotti.
I’m glad today is a little bit better day, wordy. I hope the days continue to improve.
Congrats, Nut!
Polar has a chest x-ray scheduled for the 9th and surgery on the 20th. The surgery will only take place if the x-ray is clear. It’s not cheap, but it’s less expensive than I was expecting. Still, I’m cringing at the cost.
I’m giving the lawn a nice watering before it warms up too much. I’ve got most of it done. I’ll need to mow it tomorrow. All this water is definitely making it grow, but it’s nice to have something soft and green to walk on and it does seem to help with making things seem cooler.
Happy Firday!
Going to be a long day. My son called me at 4am to let me know he was done at irk.
I got up and ready enough to go get him.
Something was on the porch when I opened the door. I know it wasn’t a possum because they don’t run that fast. Both dogs were on its ass until it got under the shed. Neither of them would leave because they wanted whatever was under the shed. I got in the truck and Ripple came running to the gate, but as soon as I opened the gate to let him out, he ran back up to the shed with Echo. I got in the truck and started it up, then they both came running.
I know if I left them behind, they would try to dig out and follow me.
It felt muggy at the park this morning. Now it’s pretty nice out.
I’m sorry about your pup Gotti.
I love that color of blue though.
Eventually I will have to have my house painted. I don’t know how that will work if I want to paint it a different color than the neighbor. I like the blue you used, but all of the houses on my street are neutral colors.
I could start a trend.
I hope it all goes well for Polar, Taters.
We got DQ blizzards for Echo’s birthday, and they were the same. The bottom of the cup was ice cream, not mixed well at all. Which worked out well for my son as he didn’t like his.
The dealership where I bought my truck has already sent me emails asking me to trade it in. It’s a 2020, I’ve had it for almost 2 years, and it has @7500 miles on it. I don’t see a reason to trade it in, and I don’t have time to fool with that now.
And definitely not before the refinance does or doesn’t go through.
The check engine light on our truck was from some damned critters chewing wires (again - I think this is the 3rd time.) They won’t get the replacements in till next week, and with the other things I had done, the bill will be something over $700. Dammit.
How do you stop mice (or whatever) from chewing wires on a dirty old vehicle? Nasty little bastards…
I had to run to the hospital to pick up the disinfectant wash that FCD is supposed to use before his surgery next week. I think the Dr is going a tad overboard. He has to shower with this stuff 2 nights before plus the morning of surgery, from the neck down. No deodorant, no lotions, no powder, no nothing after showering. And the night before surgery, I have to change the sheets on the bed so he’s sleeping on clean ones.
He’s had 10 spinal surgeries - NEVER has his surgeon called for such extreme measures. This guy even required a MRSA test! I’m guessing he had one bad experience in the past. And to think, we get to do this again in November.
I’ve got 2 loads of laundry out on the lines. The sun is in and out, but it’s hot, and no rain is forecast, so it should all dry. Other than that, I think chorage is done for the day, well, except for taking in the clothes and making supper. So there are still more chores. Never mind.
That is on the edge of overboard. Out of four spine surgeries and close to two dozen “procedures” (epidural injections, ablations, etc) only once was I prescribed a specific pre-op regimen other than shower that morning, and no lotion/deodorant/cologne. Think it was for the disc replacement that I was given a bottle of “CHG” soap and told to use it on my neck the day before and day of surgery.
Got the call that my dog was ready to come home. The whole process was very transactional. Not that I was expecting flowers, mourners, and an organist, but it was like “That’ll be $200, please.” and “Here you go. Thank you.” Last week, I went to a building as nondescript as all the others in a nearby industrial park and he’s wheeled off on a cart, then yesterday they hand me a small wood box with his name on it.
gotti - and this is for a knee replacement - how does deodorant in his pits potentially contaminate his leg? At worst, he’ll be left alone in his office because of the B.O.!
I skipped yesterday and now I’m soooo far behind! I’ve read everything, though.
Belated happy birthday, swampy!!
I’m in the office today: a colleague retired and had to come in to outprocess (turn in her equipment, etc.), and I figured I’d say goodbye in person. Our boss is also here today, for the same reason, and it’s been nice getting to talk with her face to face.
I’m planning to bug out a little early: it’s around 2:40pm right now, and I’m just waiting for my boss to get out of her 2:00 meeting so I can finalize one or two things before I leave. I’ll stop at the grocery store on the way home, then spend a little time with my doggy before heading to my best friends’ for dinner.
My best friends are a married couple who I’ve known for a loooong time (their son is about to turn 20 and has called me “aunt” since he started talking), and over the years some of their extended family has become like family to me as well – including one of their sisters, who is visiting this weekend. I’m going to their place for dinner tonight. It’ll be really good to see Kim.
I use the kind-of-medium size ones: not taco wraps, but the smaller of the tortilla wraps. Two (un-strung) mozzarella sticks per wrap, nuked for 30 seconds each, is perfect. If I can find some pepper jack or jalapeno cheddar string cheese at the store today, I’ll try that next.
Very cool!
Congrats!!
I’m so sorry.
My girl just turned 13, and I can’t imagine what it will be like when her time comes (except I know it will be a hundred times worse than when my cat died).
I found a bug. No idea what it is, so I posted in GQ.
Afternoon all. Shopping is completed and everything put in it’s proper place. Nappage was achieved and just eating lunch now (about 2:30pm local). So dinner will be late, or maybe just that ice cream cone I mentioned above (sometimes your subconscious does you a solid…). 96F outside now and a heat index of 107F…ouch.
{{gotti}}; sometimes I think they forget how much those little wooden boxes mean to us.
FCM, I’m doing good if I bathe 3-4 times a week. Hope FCD enjoys the regimen.
Sari, dogs be weird sometimes.
Hang in there, talkie; you can do this. And hope the reveal isn’t all that bad.
OK, need to get back to doing things…or not. All y’all have a great afternoon.
My husband and I were just talking about this last night. People who have hesitancy for good reasons (immunocompromised, minority communities, needle phobias) are one thing. People who are clinging to conservative lies are something else. I do feel badly for them as they get sick and die, but I also feel like they made their bed.
Today is a bad day, health wise. I feel awful and am spending most of the day flat on my back. It helps keep the CSF leak from causing my brain to sag down, which hurts like hell. Oh well. No idea what we’re doing for dinner, but I did manage to get a load of laundry done. Whoo! Accomplishments.
Blizzards are good as an occasional thing. I prefer the mint chip, or sometimes chocolate peanut butter.
Happy Firday everyone!
Went to the gym early this morning so I could beat the heat. Then I called the eye clinic. Once I promised to pay for the exam ($300) OOP, they agreed to schedule me. I figure I can submit a claim to the insurance once this optometrist has been certified by them. (I expect they won’t pay.) I have an appointment on 8/10! Whew! Also YAY!
I then called the dentist because I suspect I have a fracture in a filling. Wanna bet I’ll need a crown?
All this talk about Blizzards is making me want one, but no way I’m walking over a mile in the heat to get one, so I’ll just take imaginary bites of yours, Mumpers. (No imaginary germs here.)
FCM, I had to have a MRSA test before my last surgery. I understand that’s SOP now. Nurse told me if I were a carrier and some MRSA germs got into the incision, I could get very sick. I only had to wash my entire body the night before and a.m. of the surgery. I also had to wipe myself down with a sticky antiseptic. And no deodorant, lotions, or anything else. I’m sure you and FCD will be relieved when Round One is over.
sunny, that sounds like zero fun. I hope you feel better soon. (Can’t laundry wait until you’re not in pain?)
Mooooooom, better safe than sorry re the MRSA test and sanitation front. As someone who spent ~9 months on a wound vac and had 11 lost days in the hospital with that nasty stuff, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
Got the laundry, housework and grocery shopping out of the way today. Tomorrow I plan to take Nelson to the dog park early again to romp with his buddy Max (his sitter’s dog) while it’s cool. When I get home, if it hasn’t heated up too much yet, I’ll putter around with the plants outdoors for a bit and clean up the patio.
Sis will be here late tomorrow evening. She’s going to spend another couple of weeks with Dad. I’ll need to take a nap, since she likely won’t be here until 10:00 pm.
Well, FCD talked to his mom tonight. Rudy died yesterday and his wife died today two of their kids also had COVID, but recovered. Meanwhile, the gov of Florida continues to pretend it’s some political plot… and people die…
I’m so sorry, Moooom. I’m also extremely frustrated with that governor. As you may recall, I have family (all vaxxed) in Louisiana, which has even fewer vaxxed people than Florida and where there were 5300 new COVID cases today. The governor there is “considering” issuing another mask mandate. Why all this fiddling while Rome is burning? I don’t get it.
Red, hope you have a marvelous time with your sister!
Evening all. True to predictions above, dinner tonight was a large (4 scoops!) Butter Pecan waffle cone, with plenty of pecans. $5.76 well spent. Have also got a fair amount of soccer stuff out of the way and found my restaurant list (for Sunday Dining Out), so I can get back to visiting places on a regular schedule (Outback this Sunday).
Raining on and off with lots of thunder and lightning in the area, at least it has dropped the temperatures some.
Take care all.
