Spackling the Crack of Dawn- An Early MMP

I stacked the rest of the wood I wanted to keep. I didn’t measure, but it’s about eight feet long, close to four feet high, and 16 inches wide. The termitey wood is on the corner with a sign that says FREE CAMP WOOD.

I took the 1x2 and 2x2 strips that were used as supports, off of the pieces of the former construction table. Whoever built it used glue and a surfeit of nail gun nails. And screws in the 2x2 pieces, in addition to the glue and nails. The 73 inch by 37 (?) inch piece of ¾" plywood has been painted with deck paint. Just as I finished cleaning the paint roller, it started raining. Not much, but I hope the paint can dry when it’s wet. Maybe tomorrow I’ll start construction on the little woodshed.

I had a wonderful time with my friend. She lives in a funky, rambling house that has a wonderful garden, a meditation pond, and two vine-covered pergolas. Sheer heaven. I came home with plums, lavender, calendula, and other wonderful stuff. And we hiked 8 miles, up hills and down, through tranquil forests. It’s just what I didn’t know I needed.

Moooom, I can see how ironing would be soothing, and oh, how I miss that wonderful scent of laundry that’s dried outdoors!

Oopsie, the jazz sounds wonderful! How do you feel about not being able to have certain foods post-surgery? I’m sure the surgery is more than worth it, but do you think you’ll miss them, or will you be relieved about not having a choice any more?

I’m exhausted and think I hear a hot bath calling my name.

Around here, that’s a “face cord.”

I managed a grocery store and farm stand trip today. I’ve got a rack of tomatoes dehydrating in the oven, since I’m in the way to many tomatoes stage of gardening. I thought I’d try this method of preservation. I think I’ll pack them in olive oil to keep 'em for winter. Well aside from the ones I’m putting on a pizza tomorrow.

Nelson and I went to the dog park this morning, where he got to play with his buddy Max (and I got to visit with his sitter) and a mini-labradoodle pup named Ginger. I did get some patio work done. I picked up some 'maters from the stand down the street, so cottage cheese and tomatoes for breakfast. The cheap Chinese place cooked supper.

A mystery solved
For the past 11 year at my apartment, I’ve been getting misdirected mail for the lady “Danica A.” So when I was running miss sorts yesterday, i see a Jungle envelope on the floor. I pick it up, look at the front, it’s addressed to “Danica A.”(she has a very unusual name for these parts). Weird. But at least I can tell the Post Office to forward her crap to Wendell now.

Drinking a Sazarac, and making Asian BBQ stir fry for dinner.

… or, alternatively, I can double-check my work schedule at 11:45 am to discover that, no, I start at noon. (I live a few minutes away.)

Whoopsies!

Howdy Y’all! I was indeed feted in style. We ate, we drank, we made merry, we had cake and ice cream. It was also very, very, very hawt! After a couple of hours at the cee-mint pond we all agreed to adjourn to the a/c. Now ‘tis thunderin’ all around. Hopefully we shall get some rain tonight. Tomorrow looks like a fair chance of rain as well.

Speakin’ of tomorrow, the executive decision was made to not have First Sunday Brunch and to re-instate mandatory mask requirements due to the uptick in cases in these parts. However, we will still have Vestry meetin’ tomorrow after church. I’m glad of that as I have long lobbied for a Sunday meetin’ as opposed to the second Monday evenin’. I mean, we’re already there, so might as well, right? Oh and there is a funeral tomorrow at three p.m. A member of our Luteran contingent died after a long battle with cancer. He’d been in Hospice care for a few weeks. So, I will either be servin’ at the funeral or just attendin’. I shall live at the church house tomorrow, apparently. While we’re on the subject, I am way past havin’ any patience with folks who refuse to get vaccinated.

Drinking cabernet sauvignon. I had yum beef salad (5 star) for dinner, plus a fresh Spring roll. The Missus had pineapple-shrimp fried rice and Jack Daniels. She was disappointed by the dearth of pineapple in the dish, but otherwise she said it was good.

I guess that’s what it’s called, but it’s not a term I use because when we buy wood it’s by the cord.

When I went to pick up our early dinner, I noticed that all of the wood had been taken. Nominally 16 inches wide, but there were a lot of ‘chunks’. About four or five feet long, and maybe a couple of feet high.

Evening all. Decided to mow the back yard this evening, since they were saying there was a 45% chance of rain tonight. Bagged three 30-gal bags of clippings to add to the two this morning and ruined all the good my afternoon bath did. So of course when I check the updated weather, there is only a 17% chance of rain…such is life. At least it’s done.

flyboy, what’s the odds whoever took it will use it around their house and then wonder where the termite infestation came from?

swampy, glad you had a happy birthday celebration.

doggio, glad the mail mystery has been solved. I get the occasional letter for a “David Hamad” which is almost, but not quite, totally unlike my name, it just goes in the shredder. And about once a year I get something for the folks who rented my house while I was overseas…in 1997-98.

nellie, happy you had such a good day. May many more be in your future.

Oopsie, good of you to volunteer, but beware that it doesn’t become a permanent thing. Enjoy the jazz.

OK, probably should shower before bed, so everyone have a good night (or good morning for our Euro-Mumpers).

Survived my “whoops, surprise!” long shift at irk nicely, despite people being, well, people.

We were sloowwww all day (so boring!) and so one girl decided to fuck off early … right as the Saturday dinner rush absolutely slammed us, damn her.
One of the other girls got totally stressed out → orders started getting crossed and going out wrong → she got MORE stressed, which started rattling me.
Ack!
That nonsense only lasted maybe an hour or so; she finally took a few breaths between customers and we all - the whole (remaining) team - got back on track.

Have now had a much-needed shower, washed my hair, even swiped a razor over some key acreage. Feel very much human again.

Decided swampy often has the right idea, and swiped me a lil’ of the General’s chicken for m’self. Treated myself to some home-chopped green onions to augment my soup, and figured that was sufficient kitchen duty for one day.

I like tonight’s Asian place, because they give you those little fried crunchies for your soup. But alas, they have no sushi; only hot foods.
The other nearby Asian place, where I often get a little cheap tray of cold sushi, does not do fried crunchy things for their soup.
Alas, such a tradeoff. { cue pose of woe }

That’s sufficient excitement for one Saturday night.

I did underscore CAMP. Probably not a lot of indoor burning this time of year.

Obigatory dunken psot. In honor of swampy’s birthday celebration

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy (partly moony?) with a predicted high of 97 and a fair to middlin’ chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse mid to late afternoon. The big plan of the day is deheathenization where I will be co-Verger (I do Verger stuff while the experienced Verger watches how I do). Next week I fly solo. Vestry meets afterward and Tom’s funeral is at three p.m. Don’t know what shall happen N.O,L. wise. Perhaps I’ll just stay in town and do a McN.O,L. rather than come back to da cave just to turn around and drive back in an hour. Fun times!

doggio been a while since we’ve had an ogbligatroy durkene psot!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Wow, I was largely absent yesterday afternoon and evening…

FCD got a text that he had 7 (SEVEN) prescriptions to pick up at CVS. We decided to get lunch while out, and we went by the Olde Town Pub since we hadn’t been there in eons. My mini burgers were OK, but FCD said his fish (of fish-and-chips fame) was way over-cooked. The coating was hard and greasy - not at all appetizing. He peeled it of, and just ate the fish part. I, unfortunately, ordered Diet Coke to drink, even tho I knew better, so I was awake till after 1 of the AM, dammit.

Anyway, after eating, we drove thru the Leonardtown CVS, and the pharmacy tech there had no idea what we were talking about. Then he did some sleuthing and discovered the meds were at the Mechanicsville CVS, about 12 miles in the other direction. I’d never been in that particular store - it’s a lot bigger than it looks like from the road. With drugs in hand, we then went to WaWa and filled the car before returning home.

Some of the meds are pre-op and some are post-op. Starting Wednesday, he’s got things that need to be done a particular way in a particular order ahead of arriving at the hospital before 8 on Firday. This is going to be an interesting week, what with him starting back to work for our former employer, Higgs going to the groomer, me wrangling Roxy while my daughter goes to Annapolis for some pre-natal stuff, and, of course, the ballgame on Tuesday evening. I’m exhausted already!

Today, we’ll disassemble then reassemble FCD’s computers and associated stuff in his new office. Naturally, it’s raining, which just adds to the fun. Dammit. He can’t carry anything to speak of so I’ll ferry stuff from car to office while he keeps the building door open. Then I’ll be crawling under the desk hooking stuff up because he shouldn’t. Good times ahead!

If you miss me today, that’s where I’ll be. I’m too old for this $#+!!!*

Happy First of August! (Wow, it’s my Dope-i-versary!! Twenty-one years I’ve been hanging out here!!)

doggio, glad you got the mail mystery solved. Five years after moving into this apartment, I’m still getting mail for Leo W. I mostly toss it, but Staples sends some coupons via postcard for $10 off regularly priced stuff. Those I use to purchase TP, paper towels or tissues.

Your birthday party sounds like it was fun swampy!

Moooooom, do you have a little cart that you can use to move the equipment?

Up, caffeinating and breakfasting.

I had a weird dream last night that I was waiting tables again (it’s been a long time since I’ve even moonlighted doing that). A group of guys ticked me off by just sitting down at a table in need of bussing and being pretty much jerks.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a cool 15C/59F outside with a fair bit of cloud which does make a very nice day as far as I’m concerned. Don’t like too much heat so I am much more comfortable with this kind of temperature.

Happy Dopeiversary, Mooooom - I hope you’re having celebratory cake of some kind!

Swampy sounds like you should be taking a picnic lunch with you today, doesn’t make sense to go home just to go all that way back again.

Doggio good to know you’ve finally solved the mystery of the stray mail. I quite often get mail through the door for the guy who lives directly opposite us. Our house is number 5 and his flat is 105A so not quite sure how the postie manages to get us confused. Our names are nothing alike, and his street address is completely different too. His flat is the ground floor of a house, the “front” door of the house (which leads to the upstairs flat) is on the street that runs off ours, although his front door is on the side of the property facing our street.

My big plan for today involves slothage! Yesterday was busy as I had two gym classes followed by a stop-off at home for a change of clothes before going to the salon to get my hair cut. Then back home for an hour, then into town to do errands. I had some passport pics done a couple of months ago so I could use one to renew my photocard driving licence. I uploaded the copy they emailed to me so that I could renew my passport but the site said the pic was poor quality and unlikely to be accepted. Having just had my hair frou-frou’d, I decided to get another set done, explained the issue and gave the guy in the photo shop the old pics (in case he could see what the problem was). Since I’d brought them back and they’d been rejected by HM Government, he did another set for free. So this morning I’ve used the online version to do my passport application.

We had lunch at the Good Chinese Place, did other errands and then went to Marks & Spencer to get some fancy cold meats and cheese so we could have a Ploughman’s Lunch for dinner yesterday evening. Very nice it was too, we also bought a couple of bottles of cava as I’ve got a gift card to use.

Today all I have to do is one load of laundry and run the vacuum cleaner round the house to remove a week’s worth of cat fur from the carpets. Then I can be slothful until it’s time to make chilli for tonight’s dinner.

Morning all. Looks like I was a smart guy in mowing my lawn yesterday. Woke up to a steady rain and according to the maps, it’ll be around until 10am, so too much of a soaking to mow today. So glad it’s done and I don’t have to fell guilty about my slothing ways.

Also cooling things down only supposed to be a high of 84F, at least 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the week.

Outback Steak House will take care of the major meal of the day. Also need to run a load of jeans, between the Miami trip and mowage, I’ve run out early. So there is that.

FCM, I have my prescriptions (all 2 of them) filled at a local Walgreens, so far my Drs. haven’t migrated them elsewhere. Hope the computer move the FCD’s regimen go well.

swampy, have a good day Vergering and stuff. Your mentioning it brought to mind the old story “The Verger” by W. Somerset Maugham. Short but still in my memory from high school, I’m sure all y’all have read it, but if you have 10 minutes to go back to English Lit class…https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qKtIn6K_KGwODsDdsCy5xgbBI-CBqI54JVtjgJJxfnw/edit

flyboy, you did everything to make it foolproof; but fools are pretty ingenious…

shoe, food service at rush hour is not for the timid. Glad you made it through.

Ok, on to the You Tube updates (I follow several sites that update on Sunday only). All y’all take care today.

Incidentally, on the last day of the thread…

Does anyone else want to read the thread title ‘Smoking the Crack of Dawn’?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today, so it’s the usual cleaning.

Happy Dope-i-versary!!! :birthday:  :beers:
