Spackling the Crack of Dawn- An Early MMP

Happy Sunday!

Somewhat muggy morning, cloudy 70 degrees.
It was nice at the dog park, although not as nice as yesterday.

Echo was a good girl this morning. Two new dogs came in, at separate times, and she was good with them. They were puppies though and she seems to be better with them. Both of them were allowed to jump on me and get hugs and scritches, while she nibbled on them.
Right before I left, two adults came in. One she was fine with, the other one I could see her starting to stiffen up, so we left.

Happy Doperversery FCM

Don’t know what I’m doing today.
I didn’t do much of anything yesterday. Still trying to get the employee discount to go through for the phone, but something keeps going wrong. It’s very annoying.

That’s awesome. Glad the coincidence worked out. Now let’s see if the P.O. actually does the forwarding!

{ sniff } They grow up so fast.

Concur that a picnic or McLunch is the way to go. Maybe just bring a sammich?

I didn’t before, but I do now!

The Woodshed

You all know I want to build a woodshed from reclaimed wood from the office. This was put on hold because of reasons from other things that needed to be done to adopting a new cat. The plan was this:

  • Rent a log-splitter and make firewood out of the remaining logs on the property line, which I accomplished last week.
  • Stack the firewood in a temporary location. I finished this yesterday. (Incidentally, the termitey wood I’d stacked across the street was all taken within hours.)
  • Build the woodshed on the deck.
  • Move the stack of brown tarp-covered firewood from the edge of the deck.
  • Move the new woodshed to where the other firewood was.
  • Fill the woodshed.
  • When the rest of the cedar that was damaged earlier in the year is cut down on Thursday, move the logs to the property line where I’d just cleared the space.

The beauty of the plan was that I’d only have to walk 20 feet across the deck to get firewood when it snows in Winter. Then I made the mistake of asking SWMBO if I should paint the woodshed grey like the shed, or red like the house. As she was deciding, she kept looking to the property line. I was informed the shed would not be placed on the deck.

So now I have to get out the pickaxe and shovel and level the area, put down an anti-plant barrier (and probably pavers), and build the shed in a less-convenient space. And building will be delayed. Now where will I put those logs when the tree is cut down?

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 65 degrees within an expected high of 86. The sun never really emerged yesterday, however, it was warm and muggy outside. I mowed the lawn and gave it a nice watering session too.

We went out to lunch yesterday to a little Mexican restaurant that used to be located in a bus. They are now located in a building. It took forever for them to open, but I think I good part of that was because of permitting, and then along came COVID. The food was good and plentiful. It would be nice if they had a liquor license, but we settled for some tangerine-flavored Jarillo soda which was quite tasty.

After lunch, we went to Safeway. I went in there specifically to buy eggs, chicken to cook for Polar, vinegar, and baking soda. My husband came in with me and kept disappearing with the cart, so we came out of the store with a full cart. It’s like taking a little kid in who tosses stuff in the cart when you’re not looking.

I haven’t decided on what I plan to do today. I think a little of this and a little of that, but I’m not sure I’ll even leave the house.

My husband informed the friend that in-person visiting would have to stop because of the new COVID variant. He explained that I have more stringent masking requirements at work and that we’re trying to keep this stuff away from our kids and grandkids. He tried to make it as non-confrontational as possible. D took it well and said they could continue to visit online and over the phone.

Sorry about the extra work, Johnny.

I’m thinking of taking a long drive over Chinook Pass in the next couple of days. I haven’t decided if I’ll stop at Cayuse and continue on through Mt. Rainier National Park or continue all the way over and come back via White Pass. I think we’ll take Polar with us so he doesn’t stress out too much.

Polar was very unhappy with us when we returned yesterday and really gave us an earful. In a way, it was good to see that, because that’s how he always acted up until Brandi’s passing. Still, I don’t want to give him added stress right now, so I want to try and find stuff to do where I can include him as well.

I may not level the area. I may just put pavers at the corners and middle and stack them to make the shed level.

It’s 62 and pouring here, much thunder and lightning. Cin is not happy about this. The thunder never used to bother him, but lately he’s started needing to be very close when the booms happen. Right now he’s under my legs while I’m at the desk.

Hope the power doesn’t go out, I wanna watch something olympic-y.

Hubby and boy-child had a huge blow up yesterday. Hubby is still pissed today and boy child hasn’t graced us with this presence yet this morning. I am monkey in the middle on this, and not happy. I think husband needs to take a vacation, with or without family. Son needs to do a lot of things, starting with actually taking his meds, instead of just stopping them without discussing it with anyone.

I hope this all settles out soon, or maybe I’ll take a vacation. That won’t help anyone but me, but I hate being yelled at by everyone (except my daughter - she can join me on vacation).

You mere mortal, you.

(How do people respond with just a smiley? I always get the 5-character nag.)

I intend to savor two days of relative cool (highs in the 70’s) before two days of heat (90-ish.) I’ve taken out trash, watered the plants (casting a baleful glance at the squirrels conferring below), started the dishwasher, and done paperwork. Now I’m going to walk to the grocery store. Maybe later I’ll walk to the mall. Sundays are less-walking days, so I’ll only get in maybe 3 miles.

I intend to read on the balcony. Plus Sunday is Kids Call Me Day, always a blessing.

Sunny, I like the idea of you taking a vacation on your own. I was that monkey for years, and it’s very stressful. Also, I think family can become dependent on the monkey–they don’t need to play nice because they can filter everything through the monkey. Ugh. So sorry you’re in that position.

Swampy, sounds like an exhausting day. I hope you and OYKW get a chance to relax together this evening.

Moooom, happy anniversary! That cake slice looks good on you! I hope you get a chance to sloth sometime this week. You’ve got a lot on your plate.

I seem to be repeating myself. Overbooked, over-stressed seems to be the theme today!

flyboy, I’m embarrassed to admit this, but all week I’ve wanted to read it as, “Spanking the Crack of Dawn.” Hand me that soap so I can wash my brain, wouldja?

Most of it got carried by hand. We did take a small furniture dolly - a square of wood with swivel casters - and I took the computers from the car and put them on the dolly, then rolled them to his office. Everything else, except for the few things we put on his chair, was carried. It took over 2 hours to get everything set up and hooked up, but he’s pretty much ready to start work in the morning. The only thing he needs to work out is internet access, but I think the company IT guy should be able to handle that.

Once we were done, we had late lunch at Texas Roadhouse, followed by a stop at our daughter’s house. Now we’re home, I’m done ironing, and I’m about to read because I’s tahred.

No cake here, but there is ice cream in the freezer. And chocolate sauce. hmmmmmm

I read:
“Spackling the Butt Crack of Dawn”

One bad thing about FCD going back to work is at least one of his coworkers is an anti-vax, anti-mask conspiracy nutcase. OTOH, FCD intends to tell him he cannot enter FCD’s office since he’s not vaccinated or masked. I doubt he’ll be very diplomatic, tho he won’t be outright rude.

OK, time to find my tablet and find out what death threat Anna Pigeon will face in book 12. I’d have found a new job after the first 2 attempts on my life, but maybe I’m a wuss… :stuck_out_tongue:

Back in the '80s there was a button that said, ‘I’m so horny, even the crack of Dawn isn’t safe!’

Mom, I’m surprised the company didn’t want to supply the computers for FCD. Although, if they’re like most of the places I’ve worked, that wouldn’t have been any bargain.

I actually read the thread title as written, for once. Weird.

I don’t know what a ‘Verger’ is, Swampy, but it sounds important. That’s why they got you to do it.

Vinnie had a bad night last night. Wanted outside at 2am and again at 5am. Consequently I’m a little foggy this morning. I did manage to go get a haircut, feed the little car, and buy some mayonnaise (and other stuffs I didn’t know I needed, like bananas.)

Another weird thing; whilst we were outside at 2am it smelled like a barnyard. I’m pretty sure there aren’t any feral cows running around here. Possums, coons, and the occasional skunk, but no cows.

Plus also somebody had a really bad day in our back yard Friday (I think). I found a tail and a big swath of fur out there yesterday. Looks like parts of a red squirrel.

On that cheerful note, I think I’ll leave.

Howdy Y’all! I survived. Booger King provided N.O,L. I like their original chikin sammich. I did a lot of stuff today includin’ almost gettin’ Tom’s mortal cremains into the ground. I say almost cause there is a stripped screw I could not get to budge so Tom sits in the conference room in the Parish hall until I can get that taken care of, I shall deal tomorrow or Tuesday. Right now I am all worn out and just don’t care. I’m sure Tom is not offended by that.

Bumba for your edification, Verger. I still need to do the trainin’ course, but as far as stuff goes, I’m all good.

Not a whole lot shaking at CasaRoja this afternoon. Sunday chores are done and I made a green curry for supper. It needs more green curry paste. I’ll tweak it next time.

In a couple of hours, it’ll be time to begin to get ready for bed. Yee-hah!

Howdy, all!

Last night was my third time at this particular venue, and the service has been a little worse each time. I ordered a ginger ale with dinner and wound up having to get it myself at the bar; my friends’ pizza arrived well after my enchiladas — and had been made wrong, so they wound up not eating until after I was finished; one friend almost didn’t get her second chianti; and I spent 30 minutes trying to order dessert but it never arrived (it showed up on the bill, though — and was promptly removed). But other than the service, it was a really good night. The music and the company were both terrific. Afterwards we went to one friend’s place to keep talking, and wound up hanging out until after midnight: it was a little after 1am by the time I got back home and went to bed. That’s the latest I’ve been out in a looooong time. I didn’t have a single drink last night, but I’ve been struggling a little today: I didn’t wake up until 10:00, and didn’t eat anything until nearly 4pm. I guess I’m really not as young as I used to be…heh!

The leader of the band we saw is a respected local sax player: over the years he has gradually become aware of me as a jazz singer, and about a year ago he friended me on FB (yes!!). After the show I told him that I’m planning to go his next gig (a week from today), and he invited me to do a song or two with the band! AND he runs a local jazz festival that takes place every February, and I asked him about maybe having a show there next year, and he said yes right away! I followed up with an email this morning. I’m not considering it an actual gig until I have something in writing from him, but I’m pretty psyched! I’ll have lost a noticeable amount of weight by February, and should be past the worst of recovery/adjusting to my new normal: fingers crossed, it’ll be a great time to have a high-profile show.

Honestly I expect to feel a little of both. I know the cravings won’t go away, and I’m historically pretty bad at denying myself, so I expect that part to be difficult. But I think having limited options will help/be a good thing, and the quick weight loss and immediate health improvements should be enough reward most of the time. Emphasis on “most.”

Thanks, but there are zero worries in that regard: been there, done that (for a decade), not going back. When I joined my company it was as a proposal manager, so I’ve even “done that” with these folks specifically. This will be the second proposal I’ve helped with since leaving business development and going back to program work; I don’t mind doing a little prop work here and there. Especially since I know first-hand how hard it is to find good resources. But I take great comfort in knowing that, these days, any proposal work will always be completely voluntary.

Me too! In fact, that’s the only thing I do like at BK. There’s one near my office, and every now and then I’ll get an original chicken sandwich and a large order of onion rings for lunch.

The T-storms have calmed down, just a drizzle now. the dog is out from under my legs. I’ve got a pizza disc out, waiting for the oven to get to temp, then pesto, fresh tomatoes, oven dried tomatoes, feta, and fresh mozz. Pondering putting an anchovy or 2 on there.

Evening all. Dinner at Outback was good, even if I managed to knock some stuff (mostly ice and water) on the floor trying to get up…well, they put a very big guy in a small booth… Long nap and about 30 minutes of ‘don’t wanna get ups’ this afternoon, so nothing really constructive done.

FCM, happy 14th SDMB. And glad you’re done with the moving.

Oopsie, that’s great news on the jazz scene. Let us know how it goes. You’ll be great.

Sunny, families ain’t perfect (I know where you are coming from). Hang in there.

Taters, that drive sound very pretty. Enjoy.

flyboy, sounds like you got taken to the woodshed…good luck on your planning.

OK, need to think of some evening sustenance (man does not live on sirloin alone) and do some more soccer stuff. All y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

It’s not that they wouldn’t supply them - they would. But his are much much more powerful, plus he has many $$$ of software on his that the company doesn’t own and doesn’t want to buy. That’s why he took his machines - he’s got the analysis software that they don’t have and don’t want to get.

After a little rain overnight, nothing fell today, even tho it was mostly overcast. It’s very humid, so we closed the house and turned on the air.

I’ve been falling asleep in my recliner - 4 hours of sleep just don’t cut it. Here’s hoping I have a better night tonight. I got the ironing done and I emptied and started refilling the dishwasher. I’ve decided that with FCD going back to work, I’m going to make myself a chore chart, assigning duties to each day of the week. It beats trying to do it all on one day when I get sick of how messy things are. Theoretically. We shall see.

Chillage reigns for the evening. Busy tomorrow ahead. And that’s how August begins.

Apartment is clean, and poke loin is cooking. Time for a Negroni.

Hey if Dawn is into spanking, I’m down for it.

The white cassock will accent the gold lamé thong so well!
