JtC. storms don’t bother Ariel unless there is hail. Hail on a metal roof is no bueno.
My friend had her hip replaced today. The surgery went well and she will come home tomorrow. I am spending tomorrow night with her. Slumber party! Pillow fight! Prank phone calls!
Week Three at the new job. Things are going all right. Then I go on my afternoon break, and read a text from my sister. Her house was flooded with sewage a couple/few months ago. USAA is paying for rebuilding their house, and they’ve been staying elsewhere. Remember that my sister is a sad-sack doormat who’s been living on Disability since the late-’70s, and who attracts people who like people who have a little money (leaches). That’s why I handle the Trust.
So today I get pictures of their rebuilding-in-progress kitchen. I was on my afternoon break, so I said I’d gotten a new job and had a few minutes left on break. Got this reply:
That’s great!Call me when you get home I’m hitting you up for money.
Car broke and it can’t be fixed …
I had to have my car towed and it cannot be. fixed. I need thousands of dollars.
Once again, she’s asking for ‘free money’. This is after I told her a few years ago (after another vehicular emergency, ‘No more.’ I don’t think she knows how much her constant begging saddens/irritates/upsets me. And that, in turn, upsets my wife, who sees me upset. We have an arrangement. If either of us gets ‘free money’ from the Trust, the other gets the same. My sister’s emergencies have not allowed the Trust to build up an adequate balance for the house account. I mean, there’s less than $13,000 in there. I told her we need to sell the house. That would get me off the hook for her begging. She can make her share last a year, or 20 years. (And since she’s almost 73, 20 years might be enough.)
I made a single search on 2005-2010 Toyotas within 50 miles of ZIP code 92114. There was a 2008 Prius for $3,495. Maybe I should look up here in Washington for a similar-vintage Prius (mine is a 2005), but it, and give my car to her.
I don’t know.
Anyway, I told her, ‘No phone calls until Saturday.’ (I do have a job that I have to actually go to now.) She replied, ‘I had to have my car towed and it cannot be. fixed. I need thousands of dollars.’ Nie mój cyrk, nie moje małpy.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Fuck those fucking happy clouds.”
That’s good news, you will hopefully sleep easier knowing she’s heading in the right direction.
Yes, I think so I try to keep my sprint speed around 130-140 as my “idling” speed is in the 80s and my speeding-up speed is just over 100.
It’s a shame that it wasn’t really geared towards you but I’m glad you got to see people being who they want to be. We are always encouraged to put pronouns on our emails and Teams stuff too, I also get an LGBTQ+ ally tag on mine
Cucumber sandwiches (with the crusts cut off) for summer, and strawberry jam for winter And of course, a few treats for the corgis.
That sounds very positive, our very own bionic nellie!
I am sorry for the drama, flyboy, that’s the last thing you need while you’re settling into the new job and getting your own life in order. After so many years, it would be very tempting to tell her she’s made her bed and has to lie in it, but she’s still family and that can be difficult to do. I hope you can find a sensible solution.
Yesterday was a kind of productive day, I managed to get through a few webinars that have been building up, and I completed a bit of mandatory training. I also bought some gig tickets and a bag of protein powder. After I finished irk, I made campus food for two days and then since I was already in the kitchen, I made chicken curry for dinner. It sat in the pan for a couple of hours after it was cooked until we were ready to eat it.
‘im indoors is cooking tonight, he’s already decided it will be Chinese chicken curry and egg-fried rice which is my favourite of all the things he makes so I have that to look forward to. I don’t think we’re going to the pub tonight as he said he wants to do three days in the gym, and he won’t go to the gym if he’s been drinking the night before. Thus I may have a bonus night at home this week.
The Travel Gods were kind to me this morning too, I was up very early and left the house early too so I had time to walk to the bus stop that’s two stops from my usual one. Got there a couple of minutes before the bus turned up, got to the station in time for my usual train, and had 8 minutes at Big City Station before the campus train left. There are only five of us in the office today, chatterbox is working at home and our erstwhile team manager is on leave this week.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 82 and partly cloudy with a chance of rain early evenin’. We shall procure provisions later this mornin’ and get fried chikin plates from the Pubic Sto’ for today’s main need to feed. I will attend the Tenebrae service tonight as I have said I would be a reader. Look it up if you want to know. My ability to copy and paste is gone right now.
FlyBoy you are a good brother. I hope you can find a way to help your sis out.
Nellie hope the surgery helps if that is what you decide.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, I suppose I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
While mine isn’t nearly as bad, I did get attacked by wisteria vines as I was loading them in the truck for the trip to the landfill - just below my left elbow. Of course. By the time I finished and went into the house to wash up, it had stopped bleeding, so it was an easy rinse.
It varies here - sometimes it’s a challenge to keep up, other times, it appears every takes a nap at the same time for a coupla hours. Of course, many of us are retired so time is meaningless. Sorta. Time for Dr appointments are important.
Same with my mom. And she’s no longer drinking wine regularly (Dr’s orders) so that old standby is out. Taking her out to lunch or supper is the best choice, but it doesn’t work for us since we’re 2+ hours away. I can’t even remotely order pizza delivered to her since she’s in a boonier place than we are! Ah well.
Do these even work in this era of CallerID? Not that I ever did any such thing… as far as you know… < snerk >
And the day is starting at 61 Ferrets, heading to mid-80s, and ending with rain this evening and overnight. I left one bedroom window open a bit since FCD has been complaining of being too hot at night. I think it’s time to remove the comforter and electric blanket in favor of the lighter blanket. I still get cold, so I’ll toss an afghan over my side of the bed.
FCD has left for the marina to have a look at the work they did yesterday. Then to the eye doc for his annual check. After I free Otis from his crate and feed him, I’ll shower, dress, and take the vine debris to the landfill. Once home, I’ll finish loading the last of the debris in the truck and my sweetie will take it. I need to go to Food Lion and Aldi. After all that, maybe I’ll have the motivation to do a little planting. We shall see.
I slept long and hard last night - guess the work outside wore me out! Maybe the same for today?
Good morning, everyone. No sleeping on the couch last night, but doing so the night before has left its mark. I’ve got an appointment with my ortho tomorrow, so I can get an epidermal. My last one was in July, which is not half bad considering I had been getting one every three months for a while.
I have counseling this afternoon. I find myself looking forward to these sessions. It is nice to be able to talk with someone as myself for a bit. I’m thinking of presenting a bit today. Not much - maybe some jeans, shoes, and a top. I’ll see how I feel around lunchtime.
Look - the screen is clearly telling me that it’s not a bot. I have no choice but to believe it.
Ah - it happens. The important part is that I took that baby step. Maus is learning to walk, so Mollie can fly.
Judging by wet the sheets were this morning, it may be that time in Casa de Magill, too.
My dad is in a similar position. He’s told us that if it isn’t consumable, don’t buy it for him. I tend to make sure that he gets cards on a regular basis and will order a goodie box for him, stuff he can eat that he can’t / won’t buy for himself.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis will be here ~1100 to take me to the doctor and then errands.
I need to do the sketch work for the baby book I’m making for my cousin Tracy’s new granddaughter (due in July). The album came yesterday and the nursery theme is woodland creatures. It should be a fun one.
…… Tenebrae is a religious service of Western Christianity held during the three days preceding Easter Day, and characterized by a gradual extinguishing of candles, and the strepitus or “loud noise” in the total darkness at the end of the service….
Morning all. Up and had some initial calories, have cleared out the bathroom floor stuff in preparation for actually doing some spring cleaning, now just have to do it… Dishwashing will be done after lunch and those are probably my only adult things for the day. Cloudy but due to reach 82F with a 1-in-4 chance of rain this afternoon.
Flyboy, family is what we get…and what we have to live with. Hope you can work things out.
boo fae, thanks, I try to keep my RPM’s in the 80’s for about 20-25 minutes. Any yay! for smooth travels.
Mollie, hope the counseling session goes well.
And need to finish up here and get to that bathroom cleaning…in a bit..
Good morning everyone. Today is wet and noisy, I just love thunderboomers. I went out during a few dry minutes to sweep the possum poop and the birds were all kinds of noisy. A few have been over for breakfast but they are mostly staying under the tree cover now.
Now that my tree is outside there is room for Jolene’s armchair again. This makes her happy. she can lounge in comfort whilst watching kitty tv.
NO MORE BLEEDING FOR ANYONE!!!
Hubs is still bleeding, dang blood thinners. This is his normal now, or as normal as he’s going to get.
Have you cleared this with your cats? They might be entertaining that night.
That won’t solve the problem, it will just kick the can down the road. And…you don’t want to give her a car. If anything goes wrong, it will suddenly become your responsibility to fix even if she runs it out of oil and blows up the engine. Oh wait, that’s MY sister that did that.
But really, if you give her money after telling that there is no money, you will have taught her that “No” just means “beg harder, cry louder”.
I hope you can convince her to sell the house and just be done with everything, your peace of mind is more important than the few bucks of rent money you make off of it.
I don’t blame her, I’m not a big fan of hail on metal roofs either. Too noisy.
Have fun at the slumber party but remember to tone the noise down after ten. Other people live in the same area and need their sleep
Red and Lucky, thank you for the links for shoes. He’s walking better this morning so I’m going to wait until he has another flair-up to show them to him.
That will probably happen this weekend, he wants to go and get Mexican on Friday. He picked the place because they make agave margaritas and don’t add simple syrup to the mix. I hope it works out like he wants, everyone deserves to enjoy their food and have a fancy drink once in a while.
And small bills, nothing larger than a twenty. I only have a single One left so I’ll make the attempt to remember to break a ten when next I’m close to a cash register.
Ya never know when you might need to know that sort of thing! Puma poop helps keep coyotes, stray dogs and javalina out of your garbage as well. You have to be careful where you put it lest it also runs the garbage guy off, though.
Go squirt some blue stuff in your toilet, sometimes just smelling it is enough to guilt me into doing the rest of the bathroom.
Many hopeful thoughts going your way. I’m glad you are getting a little good news for a change.
@Hajis_Kitchen You did remind me that if we weren’t using a vehicle for a few days, we would always make sure the vents were all closed to stop small insects and spiders from moving in. It made the car really stuffy after a few days of triple digit heat so it is possible that the vents didn’t stop the problem, the heat just killed everything off.
When we moved here 2 or 3 years ago, we got the windows replaced. The new ones have latches and pivots that let the windows tilt inward. That means we can clean the outside of the window from inside.
Outdoors, it’s raining and in the mid 40s F, so I won’t be cleaning windows today.
Welcome, Hajis_Kitchen!
The latest shower of words from our nation’s spokesperson says we won the war, and we’re leaving. You other countries can clean up the mess and open the Strait of Hormuz. If those things happen, it will be interesting. “It was a disaster when I got here. I made everything great. All glory be to me.” Oy.
It’s 43F and soggy outside. It’ll be rainy today, and the daytime high is projected to reach 49F.
Yes, I agree, you bleedy folks need to stop bleeding!
JtC, Alta has a wide toe box. Hoka also makes wide-toe box shoes. Also, Ortho feet have these: Ortho feet
Flyboy, I hope you find a solution that works. Perhaps selling the house is the solution, but I have a feeling that regardless of trust money or house money, she’ll keep coming back for more when it’s all gone.
Dicey, I lurves me some dark chocolate. Unfortunately, I cannot eat much chocolate nowadays because it gives me heartburn. Which, well and truly sucks, because it was my remaining vice. I only ever ate a couple of squares at a time, but still, even that little bit bothers me. I am a stubborn git, though, and will indulge myself every so often. I guess the good news is that chocolates lasts awhile for me.
Shoe and BBBoo, so good to see you post!
Nellie, I hope the surgery provides the relief you need. And, yay for more Charlie and income!
The pest person is coming today, so I’ll need to head outside to pick up dog poo. Don’t get me wrong, it’s picked up most every day, but I always ensure nothing is there for the pest person. I also need to unlock the gate.
Today, I’ll wash all the bedding in the spare room so my husband can sleep there tonight without the dogs. We need to be at the specialty center by 8:30, so we’ll leave here around 7:30. I’ll be glad when both his surgery and recovery are finished. I know he’ll be glad too. He walks around with a squinty face now because he cannot see. On Friday, we need to be down in the Lacey/Olympia area for his day-after follow-up, which is kind of annoying, but whatever. I’ll need to talk to them about his month after follow-up, because that appointment is clear over on the Kitsap Peninsula, which is quite a long drive.
I still haven’t purchased new phones for us. I don’t know why I keep putting it off. Part of me is disappointed because it seems OnePlus is going to pull out of many markets, including the US. I love the OnePlus, but it seems that it, and the carriers, do not love each other because OnePlus refused to let the carriers install their stuff on them. And, while they assure everyone that OnePlus will continue to be supported, I’m not keen on spending that kind of money only to find out that won’t be the case. Finally, I love that the flagship phone wasn’t over a thousand bucks. All the other flagship phones cost more and have less in terms of battery life and other features. Bah, so annoying, and such a first-world problem.
Okay, I suppose I better get the day started. Please take care of yourselves.
First load of wisteria mess has been dumped and will eventually be turned into free mulch for the masses!! Truck is loaded with second batch, plus leaves, because I raked and I wasn’t about to separate it. FCD said he’ll take this load.
Speaking of whom, he just spent almost $300 at the eye doc. When I go, it’s never more than $50. I suspect he buys fancy-pants frames while I’m satisfied with the ones that are totally covered by VSP. The man spends like he has money…
Anyway, taking a break before stripping and remaking the bed. I already tossed the comforter and electric blanket down the stairs to be laundered. The sheets and pillowcases will join the pile shortly. And I’ll wash some of it today, maybe all. We’ll see…
Yeah, she’s kinda - okay very much - into whenever someone else has the same shirt as her. (We have several varieties of our work-logo shirts.) She genuinely does have mental challenges, but she’s part of the crew and that’s that.
The intended purpose is to cover some, uh, other scents I may have picked up on my “lunch” break.
I have my own personal apron, worn under the soon-to-be-stained work apron. Mine has pockets, and the inventory is:
RIGHT POCKET: about a half dozen of my personal Sharpies in various colors, so I can color-code complicated orders. (I’m the only one who does this; it’s my speshul thang.) There’s also another pen, but that one has to be charged/refilled and we don’t talk about it around the kiddos minors.
Also, quite often, snacks.
LEFT POCKET: my personal box cutter (there’s one or two for the store, but they’re never at hand when you need them) a highlighter (we mark prepaid tickets) and usually a rather elderly cough drop or, occasionally, snacks.
You think I’m joking about snacks, but one evening I discovered I can fit a whole-ass pudding cup into one of my apron pockets.
Nobody saw me unearth said pudding and a spoon from under my work apron, but if anyone had, guarantee they’d
As mentioned, it varies considerably. Unfortunately, right now, due to current, ah, political situations, the overall tone is leaning strongly towards that topic, but there are usually some fun threads, too. (The haiku and limerick threads are long-running favorites.)
Got a question? Got a thing you wanna share? Go start a thread! There are different forums depending on the nature of your topic, but the moderators (“mods”) are friendly & helpful.
This happens often in your ‘hood?
That’s what SuperGlue is for, silly.
My name is [ redacted ] and I endorse this post.
According to certain video documentaries, you are required to wear something that’s both frilly and insanely revealing, while also ruining goose-down pillows in a burst of feathers & giggles.
While never ruining the full-blown makeup.
That’s when things usually fall apart.
I’d have come in from my break & told the crew, “Y’all ain’t gonna believe this shit … “ and we’d all have a good laugh.
But free money? Nah.
How do you read when the lights are going out?
Did Otis get a car ride to the land of interesting smells?
You can do that with other folks, too, sometimes, when you wanna.
Don’t forget the barrette!
I had a lot of feelz when I read this.
Well, SOMEbody had to edjumucate us around here!
Seriously, thanks for the info, and it sounds like a really cool thing.
Wise words.
Nothing screws up a register worse than the 1st customer of the day showing up for a small one-topping pizza (less than fifteen bucks) and handing over a Benjamin.
The sweethearts are the ones mid-Friday dinner rush who come up and ask, “Can you break a fifty?” Honey, sweet summer child, my drawer is stuffed gimme gimme.
I’ve never read anything more tragic, or terrifying (what if that happens to meeeee?!)
I started out on the 100 Sort Table, but then I got moved to loading 100 Top Red. An hour after start time. Luckily, it was only 700 pieces today. Of course, some Pointy Hair Boss just had to order 6(six) 75lbs stand up desks for their office. Also, The geese are inside the perimeter. I had a bowl of dry, flavorless bits(with blueberries and milk) and an everything bagel(with veggie cream cheese). My everything bagels have less everything on them then before. Aldi shrinkflated me on the first day of Passover. Oy Vey.
Well, we’re never gonna get Ragnarok/The Apocalypse/The Awakening of the Great Old Ones with that sort of attitude!
Had a very silly day at irk. IT have been sending emails out for ages saying some boring blah blah training needs to be done by such and such a date… So today, April 1st, was the date, so this morning, they cut off the IT access to anyone who hadn’t finished the training. Yup, April fools and a bunch of people- including at least one department head- couldn’t even get into their emails.
Getting it fixed turned into a a big loop of going to HR who sent people to IT who sent everyone back to HR to grudgingly allow access just to the training programme… Nice of them to get into the spirit!
It was also the viva of another student in my lab- and as she’s adorable and there was no question she was going to pass, we were decorating to celebrate. We’re not allowed real plants due to plant research going on, so I wound up bringing in modelling balloons to make balloon flowers… which turned into making balloon dogs for random people in the office…
It’s not the most sensible place at the best of times, but people pretending to watch boring training videos while trying to make balloon animals is beyond our normal level of silly. The place has never been so squeaky.
I will be heading back out for dinner shortly to continue celebrating, though it’s turned really windy and wet. Yuck.
