Springing into cleaning in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! Tenebrae got done and it was a very nice and surprisingly well attended service. BBBoo gave a nice summary of what it’s about. Shoe the lights get dimmer throughout the service, but we do have a handy dandy readin’ light at the lectern. It’s battery operated and has settin’s from dim to land an airplane in the dark on a foggy night. OYKW surprised me by goin’ with me tonight. He usually does on Sundays, but ain’t real big on other services. However, he will do Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Christmas Eve.

I get the most basic of frames for my glasses. They are the black plastic grumpy old man ones. I am one and I mean to look the part dagnabbit!

Cookie happy anniversary to the Mrs. and you!

There’s a tstorm brewin’ and I need to go sit on the back porch for a bit. It’s also bedtime.

Nitey nite y’all!

Cracking up irl

That’s what we have and I love them, but like you, no cleaning windows in the rain. I’ve found that I’m mostly cleaning one of the bedroom windows and the bottoms of the french doors because of all the kittah nose prints.

While I miss my father a lot, I’m also glad he is gone and can’t see what is happening now.

Thank you, have you tried the Ortho brand shoes? I’ve been seeing some pretty intriguing ads recently.

Hurray that the fraptious day is finally here! He’s going to be starving when he’s released, be ready to get him straight to food. Both of you will be so happy when this is finally over!

I wonder if he’s going to have to reset his virtual game settings, he’s going to be seeing much differently when this is all over.

They are British cats, I picture them having high tea with friends while wearing period dress.

Only three hundred makes me think he got upgraded lenses, all of those add on coats. Fancy-pants frames are much more than just three hundred bucks.

Swap out headwraps, spray yourself with Ozium and wash your face and hands.

I would never joke about good snack carrying pockets! Snacks are the main reason I carry a purse.

Yanno, that sounds rather threatening. Kinda like how I feel about The Teddybear’s Pikanic.

Well, humpf!

Dude!

I vote YES!

Sadly, I cannot drink much coffee anymore. This getting old thing isn’t for wimps.

Pics please, please PLEASE!!!

While I’m happy that you learned the technical name for what you are doing, I do need to apologize. I try to explain my jargon because I know that most folks aren’t into my personal addiction.

I am also boycotting them, but they are inconvenient to get to and we can feel virtuous because we are buying local. Are we boycotting for the same reason? LGBT and DEI?

That seriously sucks. Life needs to stop kicking her and find another target.

Government worker chiming in. We had several mandatory training sessions every year that never changed. As a result, we all had cheat sheets with the answers. That allowed us to play on our phones while waiting for the test. We actually looked forward to them, they were a bit of a break from the daily grind.

Oh, a confused and dusty weightlifter? Hand him over, I still have a few tricks up my - ummm - sleeve.

I’m not a soda drinker so don’t know how much they should cost. How many cans of coke do you get for that much money? I’ve heard the cost is going up faster than other canned drinks so its not the cans like it was during the plague times. (Did the cost ever go down after that?)

That happened here around 1400 and it was NOISY! According the the rain gauge, it was coming down at 4 inches per hour. The wind blew and thunder boomed and then it hailed and just beat my poor lemon tree all to heck.

Then the sun came back out and it got better.

Yanno you are a country girl when you read that sort of thing without blinking, then nod in agreement.

An X-ray? You didn’t mention maybe breaking it :frowning:

That’s where a stash of frozen, nuke-n-eat comes in handy. Before a trip, I’ve been known to switch from coffee to tea in the mornings once the milk runs out.

You mean that your granddad didn’t teach you to drink coffee (1/4 mug coffee, 3 spoons of sugar and 3/4 cup of warm milk, just like in the old country) when you were four?

Happy anniversary cookie and MrsCookie!

They’ll be checking for a bone infection. I lost the tip of the middle toe on the other foot to this. Should you want/need to use some scare tactics about gout to your hubby, feel free to bring me up as an example.

I had an ‘oops’ today. I balance my money drawers more often than necessary. I’m a little compulsive about accuracy. So one time I did, I had a shortage of over $1,900. :astonished: I’d made an error of $10 on a deposit, so I cancelled what I was doing, and entered an amount that was $10 higher. Only I didn’t cancel. So the deposit was twice as much (minus $10) what it should have been. The good news is that I figured out what happened reasonably quickly. The bad news is that the member had already transferred his balance to Venmo. Since there was the subsequent transaction on the account, we couldn’t do a simple error correction. It had to go to the Big Boss. In the end, we took the money back (resulting in an overdraft, but we waived the fee), called the member and explained the situation, and he very quickly returned the erroneous amount. WHEW!

Another thing that happened was that I’d bought some hundreds from the vault, because I was low on them. Right after that, I got a $7,000+ cash deposit. I want around 14 kilobucks in my drawers, and suddenly I had $24K. I sold $10,000 back.

Today really felt like a Monday.

I went over to Trader Joe’s and got a cheesecake for Friday’s potluck.

Late night final time. Not that I have done anything worth mentioning in the past 3 hours, but Tradition! Well, I did try a Hot Pocket for the first time, never had one before and maybe I messed up the preparation, but didn’t care for it very much. Had a nice helping of baby carrots instead.

I read that and immediately think it’s some type of Scottish drinking party…

Can’t speak for FCM, but a 12-pack of 12oz (355ml) cans at Kroger here run about $11.49 each, albeit they often are on special (just peeked, you can, if your a member, buy 2 and get 3 free, which come out to $22.98 for five packs or about $4.60 a carton or 0.39 cents a can). But prices vary a lot, as you well know.

red, I have sufficient frozen stuff to eat, but really want to use up the other items I have. Still have 6 hot dogs and the hot dog buns for them, so Cheese dogs will be on the menu a couple of times. And I have never cared for hot drinks, coffee or tea or even chocolate (I did like the chai in the UAE, hot but sweet).

Flyboy, oops will occur, but at least you caught it and got it fixed. And who brings $7,000 in cash to the bank for deposit? Guessing it must have been a local business.

And 10:30pm so of to Slumberland I go. Catch y’all Thorsday.

Oooh good idea. I have a couple of spots where I’ve had to fix siding cuz of those little furry bastards.

Ok, enough of this, off to bed. I need to get to work early and do all of opening before the ever delightful monthly full staff meeting.

IRA deposit.

It’s… interesting. Seeing people with a few cents in their accounts, and others with five figures. That, and the number of people depositing a kilobuck or more in cash. Of note: Everyone is treated with respect. Many of the members are ‘known’, and the team kind of chuckles at them. But everyone understands that situations vary, and they are treated as human beings.

I don’t know if I mentioned that the guy who replaced our roof, and the catio roof later, is a member of the credit union. I processed something for his son today.

I just Zenni-ed around and can get progressive glasses for less than $200 from them. Way better than 600 plus frames from the local guys, but maybe getting a first pair with local support might be better?

Nah, grandma would hold a sugar cube between her teeth and drink black coffee through it.

A friend invited me to go see Project Hail Mary. She bought the tickets. I got the snacks, 2 small popcorns and 2 bottles of water. We spent the same amount. I’d give the movie 2.5-2.75 stars. Ryan Gosling was excellent, and there were parts of the movie that I thought were great. There were a few parts that made me wonder if Jerry Bruckheimer had produced it. And the ending was too long. Me: “Wow. Good ending. Oh, wait. Aw, THIS is the ending. Oops, not yet. How long IS this thing?”

Anyway, glad I went. I hadn’t been to the movies since Oppenheimer.

Has anyone here had robot-assisted hip replacement surgery? I have a friend back in Wyo who’s getting it on Friday. The surgeon gave her what seems to me to be ridiculously optimistic recovery expectations. My sister and I call this the “dancing by dinner” spiel because before our first transplants (5 years and 1,000 miles apart), we each had to watch a film promising, “You’ll be dancing by dinner!” and showing a debonair man in a tux and eye patch doing the foxtrot with an improbably thrilled younger woman. Reality: by dinner, you want to stab that guy with a martini pick.

Anyway, doc told her she’d only need a Tylenol for pain (a bald-faced lie), wouldn’t need any help after the next morning, and could drive in a few days. Oh, and she can ditch the walker in 48 hours. She won’t have anyone with her past that first morning. I urged caution, but she wasn’t having it. Does this seem unrealistic to you? The hospital is in an even smaller town than ours, a town that reeks of natural gas, was once the meth capital of the US (not per capita) and has, a pediatrician told me, a lot of birth defects associated with incest.

People here ARE pretty open-hearted.

I’m imagining that shopping list: bread, milk, apples, coyote pee (IF FRESH), butter…

As one does.

I didn’t think this was anatomically possible. Or was this the Earl Grey version of Josephine Baker’s bananas skirt?

What if she likes rum? Those sixteen men on a dead man’s chest weren’t swillin’ Sanka.

Oh, my! When I was in potential bear territory during my mountain hiking days, I used to sing that as loud as I could to warn off any hungry grizzlies. I’m sure the birds were ready to pelt me with pinecones, as Judy Collins, I’m not. My brother knows all the words.

Are you insulting my people? We’d be up in arms, but we’re afraid of loud noises.

You can probably pick them up at a No Kings rally.

Mr. and Ms. Cookie, wishing you good fortune.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 83 and sunny. TWPTB predict a soggy Easter. We shall see. We plan to get shorn and then be bears who brunch at Waffle House cause we be classy. Then we will be RDOS sloths until we head over to the church house for the Maundy Thursday service. The service includes foot washin’ (I don’t do that because, ICK! Don’t touch my feets!) in which I will assist Priest with towels and such, Communion, an Agape supper, and the strippin’ of the Altar. The reserved Communion (for tomorrow) will be placed on the Altar of Repose. It’s a fairly long service, but it’s only once a year.

There was a lovely tstorm last night. Not a rough one, but enough to say we had one. It lasted for about an hour, but the rain stayed for a while. Hopefully a lot of pollen got washed away.

Nellie I am skeptical of the doc’s optimism. I sincerely hope that it is that easy for your friend, but I imagine it won’t quite be that way. One thing for sure is that as she heals she will be so happy she had the hip replacement done.

Taters good luck to Mr. Taters and you today. He is goin’ to be so much happier with his eyesight!

Now I need more caffeine and to eat a little sump’n so’s I can take meds. Then I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Since it’s Waffle House, the standards are set low fortunately.

Happy Thursday Y’all! A blessed Maundy Thursday to all who observe.

Hence not making it to a military retirement. Well, that and the fact that I was not cut out to be an officer and I really sucked at it, so I resigned…

Our insurance is pretty good - we get progressives with transitions and a couple of coatings included. And it covers all the tests except the one where they photograph the back of the eyes, but I gladly pay $30 for that. His doc did say he shows no sign of macular degeneration (which blinded his mom) and just the veeeeery beginning of cataracts.

I don’t know the normal price - I think it’s something like $7.99 for a 6-pack of half-liter bottles. This sale was 4/$12, or $3 per 6-pack. Once upon a time, their sales were 5/$10, but that’s long ago history.

FCD’s preferred root beer is normally $8.99 for a case of 12 cans, This week it’s $4.99. I’ll be going back this morning to get more of each. We drink it fast enough that it doesn’t go bad, so I stock up when the sales hit.

Oh, and I plan for my weather by yours - unless the system turns north, what you get hits us later in the day.

The only memory I have of my grandfather teaching us about food was his onion lecture. “Onions are good for you - you never see a worm in an onion. Onions may rot, but no worms. Onions are good for you!” As long as they’re cooked, I do like onions. Raw, not so much.

I find them rather nasty - greasy and just not impressive.

Reminds me of folks I’ve known in the “Spend it if you’ve got it” club. I’ve never had massive savings accounts, but apart from one scary, low-funds period, I’ve always managed to have a cushion of 4 figures. The time I got to $20 to my name really woke me up.

Speaking of money, Yesterday, I downloaded some checking statements to figure out what we spend (on average) on gas and groceries every month. Back in the days when I wrote checks for everything, I could tell you (almost to the penny) what our monthly expenses were. These day, thanks to automatic debiting and using the VISA, I just have a vague idea. Well, not now. I looked at everything and realized that we were paying almost $90/month for YouTubeTV and we’ve barely watched it since MIL died. She liked Wheel and Jeopardy, so we’d put it on every night for her.

So I’ve canceled that, and was reminded that SIL watched his basketball on our subscription. Sorry, dude. I like you and all, bot you’re not worth $90/month.

Anyway, I wanted an accurate picture of what our disposable funds are, especially now that all the BIG boat projects are done. We were talking about taking the train to San Diego to catch our cruise instead of flying. It’s not till January, so I can’t do an exact comparison, but while the train will take a lot longer, it will be an extension of our vacation, and something we’ve never done. Guess which way I’m leaning??

While robot-assisted procedures are pretty amazing, it sounds like her doc is over-hyping it. I’d be inclined to look for videos on YouTube (Spousal unit watched videos of all his spinal surgeries to see what they’d be doing to him.) And I find pain meds are a very personal thing. FCD hardly needs any, I, on the other hand…

Kahlua and Amaretto - I doubt those 16 men would want such sissy stuff.

Otis wasn’t exactly scared, but he wasn’t happy. I’m wondering if he dealt with any when he was on the street. Once the booms were done, he went outside to do whatever it is he does outside, then came in all wet. We got a good bit of rain sans booms. And it looks like we’re promised a soggy Easter also.

Woke around 5, then fell back to sleep for 2 more hours - so yay! We had 57 Ferrets to start but forecast is for upper 60s this afternoon. No biggie - at least it won’t be freezing. FCD is going to the boat to disassemble the water system (water heater, accumulator, pump) ahead of replacing it all. He doesn’t need my help, so I’ll launder bedding and futz with potted plants.

Onward! Happy Thursday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 10c/50f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Mild cloudy days are the best days for fantasising about your fucking coworkers. I’m fucking going to hell.”

I ordered some spare specs from an online site. Total cost including shipping was about £70 and for my first order, I got a discount so they’ve only cost me £31 now

All these little things make me so happy for you

They are ladies  Bone china teacups and that last little claw sticking out at an angle.

Sounds like the errors were easily corrected and you realised very quickly that you made a mistake. You haven’t been there very long, you’re still learning so don’t beat yourself up about it.

nellie I fear the doc is overly-optimistic and your friend should be prepared for it not to be quite the smooth ride he’s predicting.

Yesterday the Travel Gods were not playing fair. Well, wasn’t their fault really. Trains from campus to Big City Station were delayed by up to half an hour and some were cancelled due to trespassers on the line somewhere. Then pretty much everything from Big City Station towards home was cancelled after a suicide at one of the stations along the route. Very sad situation all round. I managed to get on a busy train that was rerouted around the incident so my delay in the end was only about half an hour.

Today’s commute was easy and not unpleasant. I met up with a friend on the train out to campus so we had a little catch-up which was nice. It’s been a busy but peaceful day here, Troublesome Minion is at home because she had a couple of GP appointments this morning so we are sitting here with the windows open, blinds closed and the lights off. There’s enough light for us to work, and we both like a reasonably dark room so everyone’s happy.

We have been given a rough estimate of our moving date for the new office so that’s good. Crates will be arriving the week after next for us to pack up whatever we need to take with us. IT will be moving all the docking stations and screens, we just have to deal with our personal stuff and any student files that need to come with us. I opened one of the cupboards we’ve not touched yet, and dumped pretty much everything into the confidential waste bin!

I wrote fewer and fewer checks, until now about the only checks I write are to the U.S. Treasury and the California Franchise Tax Board. I did write a check to myself the day after I got my new job, to put money in my new checking account. (Thankfully, my first pay check was automatically deposited into my long-established account at another credit union.) Even though I’m paying electronically nowadays, I have a spreadsheet that I’ve been using since I ran out of check registers.

That’s what the woman training me said. I still felt like a schmo.

Good morning.

It’s 40F, damp and cloudy outside. It’s supposed to remain cloudy today with an expected high of 51F.

Soda is pretty dang expensive out here. Right now, a 12-pack of Diet Coke is on sale for $11.99. We have some stupid sugar/sin tax for things like soda, too.

My kids get/got their glasses through Zenni and were always pleased with them. I don’t think either needed progressives, though. My daughter had LASIK a few years ago and no longer needs glasses, but my son still wears them.

I don’t have supplemental vision insurance, so while my exams are pretty much covered, the glasses are not cheap at my HMO. We’ve gone through Costco a few times to get the glasses.

I grew up having kaffeeklatsch, so I had coffee with cream and sugar. By the time I was around 16 or so, my Grandmother said I needed to learn to drink it black. So, I did, and I prefer it. If the coffee is good, you can really appreciate the different notes and nuances.

I don’t drink much soda, diet or otherwise, anymore. Everything seems to give my heartburn, so I just avoid the soda. I had a can the other day, and it’ll probably be a few days before I have another. Because I drink so little soda, it always seems way too sweet anymore.

I’ll be waking my husband up in about 40 minutes so he can shower and then we can leave for the surgery. He was most displeased to find out he couldn’t stop for a breakfast sammich on the way there, but I told him we’d stop on the way home. I’ll need to stop for fuel too, since I have to drive all the way down to Lacey/Olympia tomorrow morning for the 24-hour check-up.

Welp, I think I’d better do some internet cruising and give some lovin’ to the pups. Maisie is most displeased about not getting to sleep in the bed with my husband. I have the upstairs gated, and she’s kind of crying a little bit, since she can’t go up there. Buster is at my feet.

Please take care of yourselves.

I caught myself nodding off at about 10:30 last night, so I went to bed at a reasonable hour, meaning I did not sleep through my exercise alarm. We walked for a little under four miles. Chloé got to see her friend, Roxie. Mrs Magill observed that Chloé makes better time when there are two humans with her, especially if Primary Human walks in front and I handle the pup. When we do that, there is a lot less tarrying around, sniffing at random shit. Ooh - what that smell? I’d better che- Oh crap! She’s getting away!

We did talk a bit this morning. The local support group for partners seems to be dying on the vine, but she’s gone out and found another online group, which has a lot of resources, including one about boundaries, which she has shared with my sister. They’re doing a lot of talking. I am encouraged, but still nervous. I’m in a good headspace, but everything else is scary. Remember: Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean that they’re still not out to get you.

VanGo - I would recommend getting progressives in person, as it really does matter where they sit in relation with your pupils. As mentioned above - Costco is probably the best place to get glasses, especially with their BOGO 50% deal. That makes computer glasses affordable. You would definitely save the $65 membership fee.

nellie My mother had robot assisted hip replacement, and was back at full mobility shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, when COVID came, she sat down and stopped moving. Your friend’s doctor sounds optimistic, but if she does the PT exercises religiously, he does not sound entirely unreasonable.

i have recovered from the nyc delivery. that was a crazy day.

i ran the reports, and had a half hour to get to the station, get the ticket and get in line to board. as usual a crowded train to nyc. get off the train and confidently make my way to the empire state building. i know exactly where to go. get to the loading dock and the guard says: “they’re not in the building”. me: ??? 'they moved". guard: “they’re not here”. and shuts the window of the kiosk. me:???
i call my office and tell the fund manager. he starts clicking on the computer. "that’s the address on the website… oh wait. huh, “it says, look at our new midtown offices”. i say, that’s good i’m in midtown. turns out the new office is about 12-15 blocks away. i start hiking.
i get to the new location. guard,“they’re not here”. me:!!! guard: “they haven’t moved in. the offices are under construction”. i call the fund manager again. “they’re not here”. manager: what the &**((_&*%^^%!!! he keeps trying the main number. i’m wondering if they were caught in the “doge thing”. lots of agencies got knocked out of offices and buildings. manager calls back with a new address, i said i’m getting a cab this time. this time the building is across from grand central station. fun! the guard this time says: "yes they are here! whew! they call up and someone will come down for the envelope. 20 minutes later the envelope is in the hands of an “fdic” employee. double whew.
2ish hours of bouncing around midtown manhattan.
i head back to the train station (moynahan, not grand station). i decide to pop into nyc public library. then go to tick tock diner, get “linner”, then get to the train station a bit before 5. next train is 5:27. got home between quarter to half past 7.
what a day. should i do this again next year, i hope they are in the new office and we know where it is.

good luck to mr taters! i hope all goes well.

Last night I worried that I hadn’t wound the chiming clock on Tuesday. It’s a 7-day clock. If left unwound, it’ll quit after 8 days. I guess I’ll find out today whether I wound it or not. The winding is a hassle, but I really like the clock.

There’s a wind advisory today. There are 39 ferrets blowing past the window, and there will be 71 of them later today. It was raining hard when I got up, but that has moved to the north.
It’s not the most sensible place at the best of times, but people pretending to watch boring training videos while trying to make balloon animals is beyond our normal level of silly. The place has never been so squeaky.
That brought a hearty chuckle to my drab morning. Thank you.

Good morning all. Bladder alert woke me at 6:15am, but I went back to bed and stayed there until near 8am, so a late start to the day. Have broken fast and taken the last bits of garbage out to the bin, so hopefully sometime today the garbage guys will be around. It’s 67F heading to 85F and hardly a cloud in the sky, but rain is due Sunday night and it’ll drop the temps into the 60’s again next week.

flyboy, sounds like the place has a good ethos regarding customers.

Nellie, I read the book and enjoyed it, not as much as The Martian, but probably ought to go see it. Last movie I saw in the theatre was Thunderbolts (from Marvel) and was suitably unimpressed. Never had hip surgery, brother has had hip replacement and years later he’s still using a cane to get around (partially because he’s overweight and I doubt he did the PT), so I’d be a little leery too of that level of recovery. But hopefully it will work out.

Swampy, happy Waffle-Housing!

FCM, I’ve kept a spreadsheet of my income/outgo for many years, can check my checkng account usage on-line and put it on the spreadsheet. Probably redundant, but does show me a history of ‘set’ costs like gas, electricity and water and when I have had big costs.

As for AMTRAK, plan on at least two nights in a roomette (which is the smallest bedroom on the train and very cosy) or if you want to splurge on a bedroom you’ll have more room but will pay for it. You’ll need to change from the Floridian (DC to Chicago) to the Southwest Chief (Chicago to LA) so plan accordingly. But if your in no rush and can afford it, I heartily recommend taking the train.

boo fae, ah, the packing up for the move. Been there, cussed at that. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Taters, may surgery day go well for husband-unit.

Mollie, it’s a big step for everyone, nerves are to be expected. Keep chugging on.

rocky, that was a crazy day in the Big Town. Glad it all worked out in the end and you got a nice ‘linner’ (have to remember that term).

Knots, take care and don’t sail away in the wind…

And time to finish up here and bring the garbage bin back into the garage (I heard them arrive as I was typing this) and fulfill my promise from yesterday and clean up the kitchen. Have a good one all.

It’s easy to say “You’re still learning” but when you feel like you should know something and you goofed, it’s easy to kick yourself. Someday you’ll look back on this and laugh… maybe…

Keep a happy thought!

I’ve worked out what we’d likely do. DC to CHI overnight in a bedroom (we’ll splurge) then about 6 hours in CHI before we depart for Fullerton, CA ( also bedroom) then business class to San Diego, arriving 3 days after leaving DC. That’s assuming no schedule changes between now and January. We’ll continue to think on it and book later in the year. It’ll probably cost more than twice air fare, but it’s something we’ve never done and will likely never have a chance to do again. So why not? Stay tuned for further developments.

Bed linens in the dryer, comforter in the washer, electric blankie on the floor, waiting. Sodas have been acquired and stowed, so we’re good for a coupla weeks ( ) and the dishwasher has been run. Not quite as full a load as I like, but full enough.

Closing in on lunch time for me. FCD is at the boat and I’m not sure where Otis is - he was lying in front of the fridge last I saw him. He’ll get his midday grub after I eat. Priorities, yanno!
