Springing into cleaning in the MMP

Not me, but my cousin had an outpatient, robot assisted hip replacement. IIRC, she was home a few hours after she woke up and didn’t require a walker for more than a week. Of course, she had a son and grandson in the household with her. The grandson was old enough to fetch things for her and her son was the adult supervision. She really found a lot of imporvement.

Nah, H.E.B. doesn’t stock that. You have to go to the feed store (note: for a large urban place, Houston has a whole mess of feed stores).

Good lord! The last time I bought a twelve pack of soda they were still $4.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to do laundry this afternoon. Most of the phone calls are out of the way (you know you’re getting old when a bunch of the names on your contact list end in MD, DDS, FNP, etc).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Rainy day today, with temps just above freezing. Debating whether or not to do any shopping today, but likely not. The wife ordered Easter dinner from the local grocery. Unfortunately, the smallest they do is for four people and we’re going to have a crapload of leftover food. Easter has never been a big deal for me, but I didn’t want to say no. So endless ham it is.

Sadie, hiding from the housekeeper this morning:

I got called in early to clerk the leftover Twilight packages. I was also loading Middle blue on the 100, and running the irregs. Plus I had to drag out 30 packages from one car, because the driver got back too late to have Twilight do it. I was slammed, behind, and I am pooped. The geese are outside the perimeter
I did my Senior Day shopping. $94, and I didn’t even buy that much, even with 2 cases of beer, and a bag of coffee beans.

True, unfortunately. {{{{Mollie}}}}, but glad Mrs. Magil found someone to talk with.

N.C. DHs moved offices on October 1st, 2025, and it took Dispatch 6 weeks to input the new address(to be fair there is “Mail Service Center” address, “actual front door address”, “loading dock address”, and “put this into Google Maps to fidn us” address).

Harris Teeter brand seltzer is $4.75 “on sale” right now.

Spot hoping for salami instead of dry, flavorless bits:

I wonder how price increases for soda compare with coffee.

Food Lion has ham shanks for 77¢/lb. I just finished cutting one up and even with the bone and the fat, I think I got enough for a dozen meals for the 2 of us, plus some to chop up for bean soup (with the bone.) I just finished making a bunch of vacuum-packed bags ranging from 8 to 12 oz, labeled accordingly. That should last us a few months. Heck, we’re still working on the spiral ham packets I did around Christmas. Luckily, we like ham.

Ziva has taken to sleeping in front of my (open) closet - not sure why she’s rejected her bed next to my night stand. She’s getting odder in her old age - she’ll be 18 if she makes it to June. Every time I pet her, she feels bonier, but she’s still eating and drinking and pooping, so she seems to be healthy - just old. I’m hoping the end will be her going to sleep one last time.

FCD checked in - all the old water system parts have been removed. He said the old water heater had several quarts of black gunkiness pour out when he disconnected it, and the pump and accumulator were equally gunky. Not sure what it is, but we’ll clean them all as well as we can because there’s going to be a boat stuff flea market at the marina on May 9. We have a bunch of stuff we hope to sell. We’ve had boats for more than 40 years, so lots of miscellany has been accumulated.

Time to check the dryer and see if just being in the air mode is drying the electric blanket.

Doggio only a hard hearted bastid could refuse Spot’s salami face.

It rained all night (but not the day I left). It rained this morning. At times it poured so loudly I could not hear the farrier talking to me. Fortunately, Ariel was not bothered by the pounding rain and thank God it did not hail while I was holding her. It has stopped raining for now but severe storms are predicted for later.

It’s ham. Good for breakfast with eggs, lunch in a ham and cheese, supper in scalloped potatoes or the random pot of pintos. Win! Sadie’s adorable peaking out at her humans.

It still costs me less than $.75 a day for my ~32 oz daily coffee habit.

We were supposed to get rain most of the week, but have only seen a few drops. Growing up, the old timers used to say that if it rained on Easter Sunday, it would rain every Sunday until Pentecost.

Afternoon all. The kitchen is much cleaner than before, taking a break before moppage, but got a fair amount of exercise from it. Mostly it was putting things in their proper place (once I figured out what the proper place was) and cleaning and polishing the countertop (granite) and the stovetop (glass) along with various bits of stainless steel (but no rats spotted). If I get to the gym it will be this evening, have already ate what I planned to have tonight so will have to scrounge a bit. Still a lot to do and not much time before travel to do it (need to run to Wal-Mart for a couple of travel-related items). 83F outside so probably shouldn’t be stuck in the house, but right now motivation to get properly dressed for it is lacking.

FCM, sounds like a good plan, I would suggest planning to arrive a day early in San Diego, AMtrak has been know to be…flexible on it’s schedules and I’m sure you can find something to do there…

red, that’s promising news on the hip surgery. I was so glad that they invented the laparoscopic technique for gall bladder removal before I had mine removed.

red, I was going to post a gag on the $4 12-pack, but curiosity got the better of me so I googled and it looks like you could get that in the late 2010’s in most places. Prices have grown some…

Cookie , ah, playing I Spy with my Feline Eye…and happy second helpings!

*doggio, that look says “anticipation”…

wet one, hope you don’t have to live up to your Mumper name.

And I guess the Household Magic Genie isn’t going to appear so if the floor is going to get mopped…see y’all later.

MetalMouse - we already intend to play tourist in San Diego for a few days, even if we fly. I was stationed there 50 years ago, so there are memories to revisit.

Temps dropping - chilly night ahead. The heat might even come back on. Then 80s tomorrow and freezing (barely) Monday night. Overcast and maybe rain today. Just ick.

Awww, look at them kitties!

I am writing, mostly little organizational things, because I don’t figure I’m doing much after surgery.

And that’s about the last time I’ve bought a twelve pack of fizz water. :stuck_out_tongue: Anymore, even diet / zero is sweeter than I generally drink cold beverages.

I now have appointments with both the podiatrist and the dermatologist. Clothes are washed/ dried and sneakers washed and air drying. Other than that, it’s been a slow day.

I just read that the Minneapolis City Council is going to direct all businesses to remove the word “ice” from their stores, inside and out, because it’s “triggering”. Really? With all the shit that needs fixed, this is what you’re focusing on? May a pointy frozen water thingy fall on your head.

Birth control glasses.

The point being…?

I read that initially as “open-headed”… .

It’s becoming quite tiresome, actually.

How often do robot-assisted hips need to be replaced?

Up from naptime. Having a Royal Hawaiian, Bojangles seasoned baked fried chicken, and potatoes with chili powder and cheese. Watching hockey.

HT coffee bean sale price: 2018:$5.40 2026: $7.99(Kona coffee costs more)

Even if I did, he’d just escalate to screaming.

OK, Forest Gump.

There’s a southern route too from Washington DC to San Diego, probably faster and therefore cheaper.

  • Southern Route: Often involves the Crescent (DC to New Orleans) and the Sunset Limited (New Orleans to LA), finishing with the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego.
  • Midwest Route: Typically Capitol Limited (DC to Chicago) and then the Southwest Chief or Texas Eagle (Chicago to LA/San Diego).

[image]Amtrak +3

Key Details:

  • Duration: Average travel time is over 82 hours, though some routes can be faster.
  • Train Stations: Departs from D.C. Union Station (WAS) and arrives at San Diego Santa Fe Depot (SAN).
  • Accommodations: Coach seats offer ample legroom, while Private Rooms (Roomette or Bedroom) include meals and bedding.
  • Booking: Tickets can be booked via Amtrak.com

Roomettes I wouldn’t recommend, the seats aren’t nearly as comfortable as the recliner like seats in coach. The bottom bunk might be long enough for FCD, might. The upper bunk is cramped and it’s a challenging climb to get up into it, not for the faint of heart or those who might have to pee in the middle of the night.

Bedrooms are much larger and the beds more doable for geezers, although still will be cosy. More expensive of course.

Sleeper rooms are cheaper the earlier you reserve them. If they become cheaper later Amtrak will refund the difference to you just by asking.

Senior, disabled or veteran discounts of 10% on the rail fare. The sleeper up charge isn’t discounted. Everyone recommends calling the 800 number and keep asking for a human agent until you get one so it will be done right, both the scheduling and the lowest price. Plan to arrive at least 24 hours before you need to board your cruise, delays sometimes happen and most places there is at most only one train a day. [I see StainlessSteelMouse gave the same advice]

Watch some YouTubes by ‘Grounded Life Travel’, they do a great job of showing you all the options.

I love traveling by train, it’s very relaxing and the scenery across America is beautiful.

All kinds of symbolism:

… Tenebrae service (Latin for “darkness” or “shadows”) is a solemn Christian service held during Holy Week—typically Maundy Thursday or Good Friday—characterized by the gradual extinguishing of candles until the sanctuary is in total darkness. It commemorates Christ’s final hours, betrayal, and crucifixion, with a final loud noise (strepitus) signifying the earthquake or tomb closure…

Yoga’d, fed, and washed. My back has been acting up this week, so I called to get another epidural. I learned that since it’s been longer than six months since my last one, I would have to go in for x-rays and to consult with the ortho. It’s been eight months since my last epidural. Not too shabby, since for a while I was getting them every nine weeks.

Mrs Magill didn’t yoga with me tonight. She has decided to get caught up with work. Her bosses need to get her more help. Shebwas missed, and not just by me. A couple of yoga friends were asking after her.

I need to get my garden set up this weekend. If I can get it all done, maybe I’ll reward myself by getting my right ear pierced. My left one has been pierced since 1992.

So machines at the front of the gas station will now read frozen water cubes?

Good evening everyone, wow, ya guys have been busy today. I wasn’t.

I did need to mail a package and checked the UPS website for the price. When I went to the local PO as gave her UPS’s price, she scoffed at me and said that she could do it for 4 dollars more, but that UPS would be more expensive and I could come back after I wasted my trip to Logan. Humpf says I and went to the UPS store. They came in double what their webpage said, but I certainly wasn’t going to give that USPS clerk the satisfaction of seeing me come back with my tail between my legs, so I went to one of the three offices in Logan and that lady wanted a dollar less than what the UPS site had said.

Shipping a package didn’t use to be that complicated.

It was a lovely day to be out and about, though. It got up to 86F and shouldn’t get under 65F tonight. The trees are blooming and the forest is turning the bright green of new growth. The main issue is that everything either is having sex or wants to and the critters kept running across the road. I missed them all, but did see a couple of bodies :frowning:

Other than that, stitching was the planned activity of the day but my shoulder is really aching for whatever reason so I spent extra time watching the forest instead. It still hurts but I’m stoned enough that I don’t really care. Of course that means I’m stoned enough to really screw up my counted canvas so stitching still isn’t happening, but I don’t really care about that either.

Hubs has lots of holes in his head and if asked would highly recommend you go to a tattoo studio for your piercing. I was with him when he got a gauged piercing and was really impressed by the sanitizing procedures.

Hurray about the time since you were last hurting, dang about the paperwork and insurance folderol.

So, what, are they going to take all of the “Watch For Ice” signs off the bridges too?

I’m really not a fan of this timeline.

Was the farrier there for her spiky teeth or does that require a different call? I’m glad all went well, I have a lot of respect for horses and wouldn’t want to try to hold a frightened one in place.

How many times did you fall for that before getting tired of cleaning grease off the floor? Jolene is positive she loves deli chicken until Hubs puts a little bit on her place mat. Sometimes she just snubs it and sometimes it is a wonderful toy.

Just seeing the scratching post, did you post the wrong pic?

I’ve been told that one should always eat before the dogs do to help establish dominance. It wouldn’t work that well with the fuzzbutts, they would be underfoot hollering at me if we didn’t feed them before I start making dinner.

Well, I think I’m going to put myself in bed. We are going to go to Hawk’s Nest tomorrow and try my new electric scooter out on the trails.

Have great rest of your nights and good mornings!

Evening all. Kitchen has been mopped, again I doubt it would pass the “Mom” test, but it does look a great deal better than it did. Also did some shopping at Wally’s Mart and sweated off about 1,200 calories, so should be good and tired for slumber time. Leaving sometime tomorrow for Atlanta for a short weekend (back Sunday afternoon) so need to do a little packing and preparation for that.

FCM, knowing San Diego is a major Navy town, that doesn’t surprise me. And BBBoo did a better job on the Amtrak descriptions than I did, the bedroom will work better than the roomette if you can afford it.

Cookie, unfortunately, stupid political stunts know no party lines…and that’s all I’m going to say about it in the MMP.

BBBoo, never thought about the Southern route, may have to try that one day. I’m so used to traveling via Chi-town that it never occurred to me.

JtC, well, at least the package got shipped. And take care of that shoulder. Hawk’s Nest looks pretty, enjoy it.

And it’s after 10:30 in the PM’s , so need to get myself off to bed. Catch up with y’all tomorrow before departing.

Anything has to beat having a friend offer to pierce your ear, only to lose her nerve halfway through. “I don’t want to hurt you!” “Well, it fscking hurts now!”

Ah, the things “guys” would do in the nineties to look tough.

I’d trade having to make an ortho appointment than having to deal with "two of your lumbar disks aren’t that bad.

Oh, pro-tip: if you have a Jeni’s Ice Cream near you, get the Black Tie Tiramasu flavor. Tell them Mollie sent you. That won’t get you any discounts or anything, but you can enjoy the look of utter confusion on someone’s face.
