Stargate Universe-What's going on?

I watched the Stargate movie, but not much more. My interest was piqued with a thread on the board, and I started watching tonight.
But what the hell is going on?

Thanks.

Why not watch the first 3 previous hours? It’s actually a 3-parter.

As you can tell, it just borrows the mythology from the 90s movie. The tone is different, although it’s closer in this spinoff than the previous two tv series, which were a tad more campy and low-budget.

I haven’t watched tonight’s ep yet.

They are on a space craft launched by the ancients from Earth before they ascended. The ship is old and severely damaged. The ship doesn’t have the power to send them to Earth with the stargate.

Ah! Thanks.
How did they get on it?
I’m annoyed by the comic relief guy at the gate with the radio.

Thanks for the link. If I can afford the bandwidth, I’ll do it. I’m on Wildblue satellite internet.

Their only means of comunication with Earth are a set of special “stones” which allow whoever’s holding them to temporarily switch bodies (ie somebody on Earth is holding a stone and whenever somebody on Destiny touches the corresponding stone they swap bodies). To the viewer this merely looks as if they’re wearing eachother’s clothes. I’m really hating the Kino confessionals on tonight’s episode.

Can I save this?
Cool.

You can’t save the Hulu video. It’s only streaming.

I won’t tell you how they got on it. I assume you’d rather watch it.

Well, I want to record this stuff.
Like Battlestar Galactica.
So I can throw it away afterwards.
:frowning:

I think that Stargate Voyager could be very good. It’s much less campy than the Stargate Atlantis was. I know that Eli and the shower girl are the “relationship” of the show, but I hope it never gets resolved or even dealt with much. I think they are attempting to be tougher than Stargate usually was.

I hope at some point they get some freaking lights going in that ship. I getting tired of watching them run around in the dark.

I hope the video camera dies as I hate all the confessional stuff.

Pff’yah. That stuff was horribly forced. Let’s hope they’re done with that BS.

About the ending of this 4th episode:

It’s obvious the ship knows what it’s doing. It’s headed to the sun for some energy.

I dont know about that…

Maybe someone has a horrible parasite stuck on their back

cmyk for your spoiler that’s exactly what I think.

I read that as Kinko’s confessionals. Didnt know they offered that service.

As for the characters, its looks like they took all the assholes, losers, and misfits from top chef and sent them on a deep space mission.

I think I must have blanked out durring the show. I thought that’s what was going on when they went through that gas giant.

What happened there? I missed it.

Newtonian physics. The gas giant slowed the ship and altered its trajectory toward the star.

So, at the end of SG:A, when they spontaneously invented the wormhole drive…didn’t that solve most of the problems here? Can’t they just hold the ship the next time a gate dials out, and do the body-swap to communicate coordinates, and then have someone rescue them, or at least provide them with food and a spare mark 7 naquida generator?

Ummm…it took the power generated by a planet to get them to dial into the ship, which is multiple galaxies away (it took a ZPM to get them to the Pegasus Glaxy in SGA) I think the power requirements are a bit more then Naquida can give them

If Carnivorousplant never watched any of the series and only watched the movie, I wonder if he knows who the ancients are or what ascending is. The ancients were never mentioned in the movie.

ETA: Hopefully detailed knowledge wont be needed for enjoyment of this series.
