Stop saying "I can't believe no one has mentioned. . ."

From the thread Knowed Out mentioned.

Ah, good times. I appreciated that pitting, KO. I disagree that this is the most annoying behavior on the boards, though.

This might be the most annoying behavior on the boards. You fucking know it’s a used “joke”, you admit we all “KNOW” it’s coming and yet, despite its predictability, you do it anyway. And you didn’t even try! I’ll be the first to admit that a well done ironic response (or even a “Well, back in my day…” or 1920s Style joke) can be hilarious, but at least put a fucking modicum of original thought into your completely unoriginal attempts to be funny.

Tiny text here.

Just mention it without any melodramatic pretext. It may be special to YOU, but obviously nobody else shares the same zeal. But just *maybe * they might if you put in a good word for your favorite whatever and stimulate the thread further.

It’s not even funny in an “overused gag” sort of way.

Everyone knows its coming. It’s not a race to see which person can get it in first. It’s a contest to see which unoriginal fuck has the inability to censor himself from actually posting a line that every other person has already considered and rejected immediately.

zebra won it in this thread.

worst. message-board-behavior. ever.

is the comic book guy statement applied to everything and anything, imo.

Do you think that you are some how ‘getting’ me with the ass-hat award for doing this schtick?

Because you’re not.

Oh and it is proper from on this board to bold the name of a user when you write it so be sure to do that when you try to insult me.

The pharase “I can’t bleieve no one has mentioned” is just like IMHO or BTW. Not everyone on this board is going to write a paragraph like they are a film or music historian. Not everyone on this board are going to read a paragraph that reads like it was written by a wannabe film historian. You come out and complain about the pharase and then try to give a legenthy description on when it is OK to use and when it should not be used like you’re the new author of Elements of Style and you expect people to give a shit.

I don’t think so.

Not nearly as much as Knowed Out did by predicting it 4 minutes prior to you doing it.

From now on, it’s Strunk motherfuckers!

Actually, the most annoying board behavior is when someone says “I can’t believe no one has mentioned…” but they’re wrong - someone HAS mentioned it.

Or worse, “I haven’t read the entire thread, so this may have been covered, but let me just add my 2 cents.” That 2 cents being something hotly discussed for two pages and resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.

Are you so convinced your POV is called for that you don’t think it’s necessary to check and see if it’s been mentioned already? READ THE THREAD.

It drives me fucking crazy.

You weren’t actually expecting people to stop doing this just because you pitted it, were you?

Do you think, maybeeeee, I saw his post?

I can’t believe that no one has mentioned how annoying it is when someone comes in and talks about something that had already been discussed. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, that was moderately funny. I laughed out loud at least.

I haven’t read the thread, but let me add my $.02

I can’t believe no one has mentioned how annoying it is when someone comes in and doesn’t read the thread, and then wants to add thier $.02 about something that has been covered previously in the thread.

In the same thread that sent me off, some dude came in and said,

I’m interested in hearing how a film that came out in 1967 “defines” the genre of film noir.

Really? I noticed that people do it, but I didn’t know it was proper form. Either way, I won’t be doing it. At least now I know I’m being improper, though.

No, but I can always dream…

If that’s the case, you’re even more deserving of it.

Hey. I LIKE Detour.

Billy Wilder and Carol Reed and Orson Welles would never have had the balls to include an “accidental telephone-cord strangling through a closed door” scene in one of their flicks.

I’ll confess that I’ve often used the phrase, “I can’t believe no one has mentioned…” when the thread is about some group and nobody so far has included a very prominent example of that group. I didn’t know it was offended some readers. From now on, I shall begin such posts with “I can’t believe you people are so fucking ignorant…”

While I agree with the OP I am more troubled by the tuna incident. You can’t think about sending something back to the kitchen in a restaurant - it is either cooked properly or it isn’t. Next time send it back. Really.

I know.

Man, I’ve sent stuff back before. I don’t know if I’m a big wuss about it or what. I hate putting others that I’m with in the position of “Do we wait for him?” even if it is Mom, Dad and wife.

The waiter was talking up how good the dish was, and I didn’t want to show him up by sending it back.

My folks are also from somewhat rural Maine, and they never eat tuna, so I don’t really want to look uppity in front of the folks. I know that sounds dumb, but to them, living in Baltimore makes you a real sophisticate.

A lot of factors went into the decision. I just really can’t believe a cook would do that. If you MUST err with tuna. . .just send the shit out raw. First of all, it’s better that way. Second of all. . .just throw it back on the grill for 30 seconds if the diner sends it back.
