Barlow’s a great pick there.
I think a lot of us are east coast/midwest people, so we’ll typically be up a lot earlier. No worries, chan.
Who’s Camel Toe? Is that waddamaroon’s buddy?

hahaha, at least we don’t say “chum”
california is HELLA tight yo. east coast people still do the yo thing don’t they?
um… at least california has good basketball teams, the eastern conference will never win anything.
thanks munch. i was hoping he would drop to me.
Like anybody cares about basketball, outside of March Madness and the Final Four. And then where are you? Sure, you can buy teams, just can’t grow 'em yourselves.
Besides, you just have to go back to the last Super Bowl to see who the badasses are in the important sport. When’s the last time a team from a West Coast college won the mythical National Championship in Football, either? I do hear that you’re pretty good in volleyball, women’s soccer and student protests, though.
dont pay attention to college basketball or football.
talk about BUYING teams, hello YANKEES.
and the Kings, this years NBA Champ is mostly home grown, we took a bunch of average players and made them great.
I was absolutely gleeful when the no payroll Twins took out the Yanks last year.
Let’s examine that claim:
Mike Bibby Arizona '00 - Yes
Doug Christie Pepperdine '92 - Yes
Keon Clark Nevada-Las Vegas '98 - Yes
Mateen Cleaves Michigan State '00 - NO
Vlade Divac Serbia-Montenegro - NO!
Lawrence Funderburke Ohio State '94 - NO
Bobby Jackson Minnesota '97 - NO
Jim Jackson Ohio State '93 - NO
Damon Jones Houston '97 - NO
Scot Pollard Kansas '97 - NO
Brent Price Oklahoma '92 - NO
Predrag Stojakovic Serbia-Montenegro - NO!
Hidayet Turkoglu Turkey - NO!
Gerald Wallace Alabama '01 - NO
Chris Webber Michigan '95 - NO
So, there are 15 players on the squad, 3 from the West, the rest (12) from the East/Midwest. I’m not great at fractions, but that’s 20% West Coast (being generous) and 80% non-West Coast. How is that home-grown? Now I don’t know which of those, beyond Chris Webber, is a starter, but unless the first three guys listed are starters then I’d say that your argument has no legs.
when you said grown i assume you meant developed vs bought/traded for as is usually meant by the term.
but if you want to have it your way, i doubt any of those players were BORN at their respective colleges.
btw, i think you have WAY too much time on your hands
It’s a lot tougher to figure out where they went to high school, although my gut would say that their college is generally, although certainly not always, near their home. Since the majority of NBA players come from the NCAA ranks and there is no true “farm system”, I meant grown as the college (or high school, if you’re a freak of nature like Kobe).
Besides, I already told you I couldn’t give a rat’s patootie about the NBA, I find it one of the most boring sports to watch. Especially since there is no defense and everyone with a pulse makes the playoffs anyway. And I was born in California*, so I’m just yanking your chain.
*Although I haven’t lived there for well over thirty years.
I beg your pardon mrchan. I’m the one around here with waaaaaaaaay to much time on my hands.
I know nothing about basketball so I’m not going to totally embarass myself by trying to pretend I know what y’all are talking about.
However, I did LOVE THOSE JAZZ when I lived in Utah. Malone/Stockton AW, the memories…
And I noticed that the Lakers couldn’t win a game without Shaq.
OK, did I just contradict myself? Should I be embarassed now
Kathy
Do some people not know there’s a predraft option??? Last night I was 20 picks away…now I’m 13. I thought it would go faster. Not nagging…not really…just being hormonal. It’ll go away as soon as I find some chocolate

who’s your football team?
anyone here know any football/basketball players?
from the HS WL and I went to, in the past 2 years we’ve had lamont thompson go to the bengals, and drew gooden go to vancouver, now in orlando. we also lost our HS state championship against ken dorsey… the bastard.
speaking of the jazz, when are they going to give that name back to new orleans. the new orleans hornets just sounds stupid.
My football team is the Bucs, and after only 27 years of frustration, finally, vindication! Must be like that with the Kings, sort of! I used to know some football guys and my wife grew up next door to Pat Borders, who was the Series MVP once in Toronto. Met him at an Orioles game and he was nice enough. Don’t really know any pro football players although a few used to buy their weed from a guy on our dorm floor at UF, so we’d see them around. One of them has a Super Bowl ring since then.
My brother’s old roommate is really good friends with Grant Hill, if that helps. And David Cone (baseball) went to my high school. I was also college roommates with Malcolm Johnson, who used to be the 6th string WR for Pittsburgh, but isn’t in the league anymore.
I can make Camel Toe’s pick, if anyone else agrees.
I know nothing about the Jazz now… I’m back in ::gag:: Los Angeles… :: CHOKE ::
I went to jr. high and high school with Andy Reid, Coach of the Eagles. Does that count? Oh, and we went to the same collage too, but I didn’t know he was there. Just learned that a few months ago.
Go for it Munch
Heh, welcome to the Straight Dope mrchan, where we all have too much time on our hands. And what better way to spend it than digging up the alma maters for complete rosters of NBA teams?
By the way Shibb, mrchan’s a friend of mine. Shibb, mrchan, mrchan, Shibb. If what you’re interested in, Shibb, is giving me grief, the two of you should get along fine.
So did somebody forget to tell Camel Toes that he had two picks?
Serves him right for taking the QB I wanted next.
Oh I see, he only set predrafts for one pick. Well here we are waiting. (cadolphin evidently he did know about the predraft option, he just didn’t use it for both of his picks. At least we know we won’t have to wait any longer than 10 more hours, eh?) Speaking for myself, I don’t like setting predraft picks when I know I’m going to be around for the pick itself. I just sit here at work all day anyway, I’d rather see exactly what happens before making my pick. We’re all set for a very quick group of picks, after Camel Toes goes to lead off Round 4 looks like it’s predrafted straight down to me, I’ll only take a moment, and then we’re all predrafted through the first Round 5 pick except for a momentary pause for Stitch (and who is that? And why do you guys keep changing your names so that I get confused?).
(STRAIGHT DOPE 2003-2004 FANTASY FOOTBALL MOCK DRAFT # 3 (AS445))
I agree.
Oh, I also used to play pickup basketball with Wally Joyner, who played for the Angels for a while, when we were both in 8th grade. Our bus would get in about an hour early and they’d let us use the gym until classes were about to start. He was in a group of friends, but we were never close. After that year he went to a different school that was built as a split off from ours.
Well, he took Plaxico at 3.01 in the 8 man draft, he should be happy with him at 4.01 in a 14.
I may be out of town for the next couple days. I have set my next pick to predraft, otherwise I’ll get the worthless garbage picks of the computer. If anyone wants to take over my team and draft for me, I encourage you to do so, and couldn’t care less who you pick, it’s guaranteed to be better than comp selections. The team password is the default.
You do make wise observations WL. I’ll stand corrected since I was being an ass. I feel much better now that I’ve had my choclate fix.
I haven’t been able to figure out who several of the teams are:
Chico’s Bail Bonds
Norfolk & Waypal Overnight Delivery
The Physically Unable to Perform List
Camel Toes
Hamlet - Team 13
Stitch
