Straight Dope Fantasy Football Mock Draft

I think that Both James Stewart and Stacy Mack are clearly better options above their challengers. I did forget Minny, though…good catch.

sadly, i can tell you with relative confidence that the cowboys will have a RB by committee, hambrick will get more than the others, but wiley, danztler and even 101 year old FB richie anderson will get his.

oh well, at least we had another good draft. altho, i wonder what they plan on doing for that other defensive end spot…

i’m a COWBOYS fan from the Bay Area. <sigh>

at least i’m not a pansey ass niners fan.

Maybe there is hope for you, mrchan. There was a pretty fast run of draft selections just now as the preselects went through, but now we’re 45 minutes into Stitch’s reign of terror, and he doesn’t look to have preselected, so unless he’s West Coast that’s probably it for the night.

And here I am up late and can’t even find my Indians.

Stitch is still on the clock, going on 9 hours now. Then it’s a bunch of predrafts and back to Stitch again. Perhaps we should have gone with Lilo instead.
(STRAIGHT DOPE 2003-2004 FANTASY FOOTBALL MOCK DRAFT # 3 (AS445))

FTR, Bettis said in an interview last week that he doesn’t project himself as the starter this year. To me that spells out Zereoue as a stud. He probably shouldn’t be going lower than the 4th round in 12 man drafts now. I’d have taken him, but I’m not in mocks, just to see how far he slides.

For all those homers out there: That’s a great strategy in mocks. If you’re dead set on filling your team with Arizona Cardinals just because you’re from Tempe, don’t take any of them in mock drafts, and note where they are taken. Otherwise, you’ll never know their value.

Shibb, c’mon my man.

He waited up until almost midnight, checked his pick (not his turn yet) and then he checked it again when he woke up. Yes, he could have preselected…but I don’t think that during prime sleeping hours we should be too rough on folks.

Good morning everyone.

Norfolk, thanks for taking Canidate. It was really starting to get to me and I didn’t want to have to take him myself.

Shibb, you’re up.

mb, nice predraft. Truly, I was this close to taking Robinson just now. You would have loved me. I was just getting ready to have him at the top of my predraft list for next round.

Hey, there were like seven people, at least, between me and then. Nobody I preselected would have still been there. Which is, I think, the situation that Camel Toes is in now. He’s even preselected for the next time, but to no avail.

And I was in a conference call with India when it finally broke through. Ten minutes isn’t that bad, is it?

Oh, and I thought that Coles was still with the J-E-T-S Jets. Did Snyder take a viking ship up to NYC and plunder the entire Jets squad while no one was looking?

As a former Gator I like Spurrier, as unpopular as that is, but I kind of hope that the Redskins really, really suck this year. How can they possibly stay under the cap? Is it Carmen Policy all over again?

I meant that “c’mon” as in “c’mon, cut my buddy Stitch some slack”.

10 mins is pretty damn quick.

Also, the Skins paid LavColes WAYYYYY too much. He’s a good wideout but certainly not as good as his salary would indicate.

Speaking of plundering, that’s what you guys just did to my next round’s predraft.
Shibb, I’m surprised you missed the whole Coles drama. I wasn’t following it closely, but he was a restricted free agent, and it went something like… the Skins made him an offer, and the Jets thought they matched it, but the Skins thought they didn’t do it right so they tried to take Coles anyway, and there had to be a hearing about it, and it ended up with Coles going to Washington and the Jets not getting any compensation draft picks because they forgot to carry the 6, or something.

Camel Toes was predrafted for both rounds when I was picking a minute ago, so his list must have been exhausted between Mcmichael, Robinson, Coles, Thrash, and Pollard. Maybe he didn’t think anyone would be taking Pollard or something; he doesn’t have a TE yet, and is he a Colts fan? He has Peyton and Edge too.

Oh, WL, please tell me I plundered someone from you. That would make my day.

And didn’t the exact same thing happen with Chad Morton, and maybe at least one other Jet? I guess I’ll have to go research Washington FA signings. And the Skins also picked up Taylor Jacobs, plus have Willie Jackson from late last year. I probably wouldn’t have gone with Coles if I’d noticed he was going to platoon, although with that money he almost has to be their number 1.

Alright, it’s 9:30 on the West Coast. mrchan should have a belly full of breakfast by now. James Finn is calling your name.

Shibb, you wanna predraft 2 players to guarantee a pick? And to help out, could you predraft Steve DeBerg so you don’t steal one of my picks?

Now that you mention it Shibb I think that whole story actually was about Chad Morton.

And you did plunder me. Coles was 1st on my predraft list.

I think mrchan usually gets to work at 10 he said, so we shouldn’t have much longer to wait.

Is there a reason why I keep posting twice in a row? I don’t know.

MB stole robinson from me. oh well. i got me a STUD in james stewart, just you watch.

regarding the washing vs jet and coles thing:

Coles was a RFA. Washington made coles something like a 5 year offer, but the final 2 years were most likley going to be voided, so jets match the offer for the first 3 years and not the last two that were going to be voided. coles wants out of the jets, so he and his agent claim NYJ didnt fully match the contract. case goes to arbitration where judge with season redskins tickets awards coles to washington. jets get skins 1st round pick (the #13 that they traded with the #22 to the bears for their #4 pick).

jets chose not to match the morton contract.

BTW WL - horn is gonna be a no show at minicamp, contract issues. i’ll trade you the STUD WR james thrash for lowly deuce mcallister
