Strangest Food Your Pet Will Eat

My dog Zilla, the laziest Rhodesian Ridgeback in the universe, absolutely loves honeydew melon. Roasted pumpkin seeds are also a favorite.

I once had a cat that went crazy for White Castle Cheeseburgers.

What about your beasties?

Across a few different cats - pineapple, scorched almonds, marshmallows, yoghurt, cornflakes and lettuce.

My folks had one cat named Gloria Vanderbilt who ate raw onions.

Another one of their cats loved raw cabbage. If Momma was cutting up cabbage to make cole slaw, the cat would sit at her feet and scream (she was Siamese) until Momma gave her some.

My kitty, recently urned, used to love raw spinach. And body fluids, although that’s stretching “food” a bit. If you rubbed your nose or wiggled a finger in your ear then presented said finger to her, she’d treat it like an all-day sucker.

I have a video of my 16-year-old cat eating raw corn off the cob. He begs for the stuff, tries to grab the cob out of my hand. Really weird.

One of our rabbits started snacking on a chicken nugget left on my husband’s plate when he’d gotten up and left the room for a bit. I quickly put that to a stop.

I’ve now had two cats who adore donuts. The one who is still living likes anything pastry-like, up to and including strawberry poptarts.

I think with big dogs it’s easier to list the stuff they WON’T eat.

One thing that is strange about Dolly and food is ice cream cones. I’m sure any dog likes ice cream cones but for some reason, Dolly gets super crazy about them.

I never have made an ice cream cone in her life but my mom makes herself one from time to time. If Dolly is at mom’s house when a cone is made…look out! Mom has to stand behind a chair or at the kitchen counter to eat her cone so Dolly doesn’t jump up and snatch it from her lips.

Not sure how this started. I suspect mom gave her the end of a cone once and ever since she’s been rabid for them.

My cat loves corn too. She likes lots of human foods but especially corn.

We haven’t tried many foods with our cats, but whenever I have something sweet the smallest one will come over and sniff and beg for it, will get into my MOUTH if she can to get some. And I read recently that cats can’t taste sweet or somewhat…I call bs on that! Mine can at least smell it, hehe.

p.s. We are going to see if our cats like corn the next time we have corn on the cob. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit!

I can haz cheezburger? LOL.

I had a dog when I was a kid that loved leftover watermelon rinds. He went absolutely bonkers for them.

My dogs love raw veggies, but especially raw cabbage. They would eat it till they were sick if I allowed it.

I had an old Gordon Setter boy named Corey whose all-time favorite snack was a raw potato! He used to go under the counter where they were stored and help himself to one occasionally, then lay down on the couch to eat it, oh so happy. My mom thought I was giving them to him, and I thought she was, until I saw him pilfering one! Corey is buried with a raw potato.

My cat loves watermelon.

Cleo LOVES donuts and apple fritters. I swear she can smell them when you pull up in the car!

My horse, Mickey, loves pizza crust with a hint of sauce and cheese, and my other horse, Dawn, loves Mountain Dew soda.

One of my parents’ cats likes cabbage, arugula, romaine lettuce, shredded cheese, and Pecan Sandies. This is the first living organism I’ve ever known to like Pecan Sandies. At least someone will eat them! Really, though, she likes so many “people food” items that my parents frequently give her samples of pretty much anything (except chocolate) to try for their own amusement.

The other cat likes Cool Ranch Doritos. And regular tortilla chips. We frequently find her up on the kitchen counter with her head stuck in the bag.

Cat: dill pickles and vodka. We discourage both, but especially the latter.

My grandmother had a dog that used to love raw string beans. She’d go out in the garden and eat them off the vine.

My last pets were a pair of rats. As far as I can tell, the only thing they wouldn’t eat was the tan rod-shaped bits in the rat kibble.

Skinner once found a squashed wasp that had fallen down behind the sofa and ate half of it before I caught him.

I once brought home food from KFC (yeah, I know). I hadn’t eaten any of the biscuits, so left them in the box on the table. It didn’t even occur to me that the cats would get into the box, because these particular cats never, ever go up onto the kitchen table, kitchen counters, dining room table, etc. Besides, cats don’t eat biscuits.

So I was doing something upstairs, then came down to get something to drink. The empty box was on the floor, and some scattered crumbs were all that were left of 6 biscuits. I had no idea cat bellies could hold that much!

Oh, and they like green olives too.

And I once had a cat that ate a cassette tape. Not the shell, just the tape itself.

Oh, if we’re talking drinks too, Kharma, my female Gordon Setter, who is normally my *PICKY *dog… loves tequila sunrises. If I am drinking one, she will beg and beg untill I give her a TINY bit. No sloshed Setters!
