Strangest Food Your Pet Will Eat

As a child I never liked sauerkraut so when my mom wasn’t looking I would feed it to my dog. If I remember correctly it made her sick and I eventually made my mom realize she shouldn’t make me eat it anymore. As far as I know that dog would eat anything but salad.

Now as an adult, my cat on the other hand tuna and chicken is about it so far.

I had a dog when I was little that would eat bugs. He had a field day every summer when the June bugs came out. I guess it’s not all that unusual, but it was gross. He’d be sitting on the ground and snap up a cricket as it walked past.

My cat loves anything we’re having. But he especially likes mandarin oranges and French fries.

Dang it! I came here to post the same about my dog (a Boston Terrier) including the mention of video evidence of said corn on the cob eating. He loves the stuff! Oh, he’ll eat corn off the cob, too, but it’s much funnier to see a BT eating corn on the cob.

One of my mom’s cats loves oatmeal raisin cookies and fudgesicles.

The cat I used to have went nuts for spaghetti sauce or anything else tomato based.

Current cat likes orange creamsicles and frosted shredded wheat. He won’t eat the biscuits, but he’ll lick the frosting.

I’ve been told it’s strange, but as soon as you pull out the vegetable peeler my dogs will, within about a half second, show up right next to you no matter what they were doing. Seriously, like feet scrambling across the linoleum excited. I don’t usually give them potato peels (just seems gross), but if I’m peeling carrots I usually fling a peel to each of them from each carrot. They loves it.

My dog can pull a Pez out of the dispenser with her teeth. It’s funny to watch, but it’s probably not a good idea to let a dog eat candy.

One of my friends, when she stays at my house, has a bad habit of leaving food in her bags when we go out (and she has dogs too), I’ve learned to close the door to the spare room that she leaves her stuff in.
The last time she was in town, I asked her if she had food in her bags, she said no and I didn’t think anything of it. My dogs managed to open her luggage, pull her purse out, unzip her purse, pull out a Cliff bar, unwrap the Cliff bar and eat that. I have no idea how they pulled that one off.

My cat loves anything green and leafy. He’ll come running if he hears the sound of a knife chopping greens. What makes him extra unusual is that he won’t touch any sort of cat treat, fish, chicken, or anything else that cats are supposed to like. He also likes mints and green olives.

I had a greyhound who loved wine. He would follow my mother around when she had a glass of wine. If she looked away from the glass in her hand for even a second, there would be a long greyhound snout in it.

Our cat Taylor loved black olives.

My mom’s dog’s favorite food is lettuce hearts. Like most dogs, he’ll eat almost anything (carrots are another favorite, and of course anything meaty), but he’ll go crazy for lettuce hearts.

My cat Trixie loves apple fritter. She also eats bread, I can’t leave it on the counter, she will tear through the bag to get at it. My girlfriend’s parents have a dog that loves raw yams.

I had an irish wolfhound who loved jalapeños. he also loved borscht.

My late cat, Figaro loved anything tomato based, including the Garfield favorite, lasagna. My late golden retriever, Chamois, liked most veggies, sunflower seeds, paper (she could make one hell of a mess if left unattended around paper. I didn’t realize she was actually eating it until I spotted it in her stool.) and gin (found this out after a party). I’ve had two cats who were known to eat Easter grass and Christmas tinsel (made for a colorful catbox and occasional cling-ons). My parents’ dog and my sister’s dogs eat baby carrots for treats.

I’ve cohabitated with pets who would eat almost anything that didn’t move or eat them first.

The only “human food” my cat Sneakers will eat is Fritos. I’d never seen him eat anything besides his cat food until one day when he got interested in a bowl of Fritos.

My cat Bandit loves him some Chili-Cheese Fritos. He will tear open a factory-sealed bag, which is quite a feat since he’s front-declawed.

My dogs are crazy about bananas, but I guess that’s not too unusual.

When I was a wee tot, we had a Siamese cat who loved paprika and creme de menthe (though not together).

My cat got into a bag of trail mix one day, and ate the cranberries out of it. She also likes to eat soda crackers (saltines) when I’m having some - I’ll break off a corner for her, and she usually eats it. The most she’s eaten is about a whole cracker.

Jim’s cat doesn’t have any strange food likes - she’s crazy for pork, but that’s not too unusual for a carnivore.

I have never had a pet who had odd tastes, but some friends had a cat
whose favorite food was canned asparagus!
