Not technically “food”, but my dog Gordie will steal the empty beer bottles and can out of the recycling bin.
My previous cat loved sweet potatos.
My cat is a bacon whore. He’ll sit in front of the oven and watch it cook like it’s TV.
I had a dog that ate oranges off the tree. Got him full grown when I lived in the Fillmore area of California. He’d eat them mostly off the ground (chew up & spit out the rind) but would jump up & snatch one off the branch if there weren’t any lying around.
I once caught my cat licking a melon rind. I wish I had taken pictures.
My dogs like barbecued ribs, so when we barbecue, we have to be careful not to leave plates containing ribs unattended. They will also eat hot dogs and even fried rice, thanks to my grandmother, who sneaks them leftovers when she visits.
Percy, my Silky Terrier, loves watermelon and will whine until I give him a piece. My neighbor’s cat, Snailie, loves to eat Vaseline!
One of my dogs eats apples like it’s her job or something. If I try to eat one she’s all wiggly and begging, and I have to keep them on top of the fridge or she’ll steal them all.
I have a cat that if I have mint gum, will rub herself all over my handbag trying to get in and get to it, purring like a freak.
Our cats have the most discriminating of tastes. Soda likes lettuce, spinach, graham crackers and spiders. Scotch likes Triscuits, Saltines, blue corn chips, Ritz crackers and the occasional house fly. Blue also likes Ritz, as well as bacon and pizza crust. Red doesn’t eat people food, but is the fattest of the lot. Red will also go bonkers if I use any muscle rub – I guess it’s the menthol.
Bailey-my Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier, has such weird tastes. He loves frozen green beans and blueberries (OMG, I can’t even utter the word “blueberry” without him going flippo) yet he hates strawberries and raspberries and thawed green beans. He also loves protein powder (although I never give him that, he’s just gotten into it a few times, and gorged himself til he threw up).
I had a cat who couldn’t get enough of sniffing my breath if I had recently rinsed with Mint Act. But once, I poured her a very little in a bowl (less than I would even use for rinsing myself,) thinking that she could then smell it all she wanted. She smelled it for like 5 minutes and then lapped a couple tonguefuls up. That cured her of it, and she wasn’t even interested in my breath after that.
I guess she thought it was some new food I was eating, and then figured that since it was on my breath and I gave her a bowl of it, that it was safe and tasty, but then figured out that it wasn’t so upon tasting.
We learned that our dogs like mangoes by leaving one out on the counter within her reach. Gnawed off every bit of flesh she could. She also loves melon rinds and tomatoes.
My previous cat liked popcorn, pizza crust, and pie crust. Must’ve been a carboholic.
My cat (and his departed brother) loves asparagus. Both fresh and canned but the canned is easier for him to eat.
He also loves olives and beets.
His departed brother loved Strawberry Newtons, which I don’t think they make anymore.
One of our dogs loves oranges too. She peels them though. She’ll pick them off the ground, then pull the skin off with her teeth before eating the inside. At the right time of year, the ground is dotted with orange skins that she’s left behind.
I used to have a cat that loved drinking orange juice. He’d stick his head into my glass and drink away.
Our dearly departed posse of dwarf hamsters used to love their high-protein snacks: tofu, yogurt, flax seeds, and the like.
Still, we had a bit of a surprise when we let Seashell run around on the table after breakfast, and she made a beeline for my husband’s plate, hopped on and started polishing off his leftover scrambled eggs. Cute little omnivores.
I had a cat when i was little that went nuts for cook cabbage would try to steal it right off my fork and would jump up on the table after it (a big no no in my house)
Bosworth the poodle loves Brussell sprouts, And sadie would eat cherry tomatos right off the vine.
My dog’s favourite delicacy is the cat’s poo. Well, it’s strange to me!

In my part of the world I can get generic ones at the dollar store.
I forgot one, my boyfriend’s cat loves meal replacement bars. He left a wrapped bar on his counter and left the room for a minute. Came back in and the cat had chewed through the wrapper and eaten half the bar. The cat cried when he took the bar away from her, and now she sits in front of the cabinet where he keeps them and meows. Cranberry flavored granola type bar.
