Throughout Junior High and High school I’m sure most, if not all of us played this game. Now, in college things are a little different. Myself and seven old high school friends (mixed sexes, WOOT) all share a rural house with two bedrooms, so we’ll sleep anywhere we possibly can. Wires and stuff from our computers and stereo systems are duct taped across the ceiling. We occupy our days by attending classes (sometimes), playing network games, some of us actually have regular jobs and our nights watching TV, cramming and the occasional male/female encounter. Well, while we were watching the 3am reruns of NBC’s late shows, one of us suggested playing strip poker just for the hell of it. An argument over what rules to play by ensued, and a number of us ended up slaving over our keyboards searching the internet for strip poker’s official rules. What exactly are they? If they don’t exist (Why wouldn’t there be a governing body for strip poker???), what rules did we all play by? Maybe we can assemble an SDMB Strip Poker rules set?
Well, my daddy always done told me that if I wasn’t old enough to find out the rules for strip poker by myself, then I wasn’t old enough to be playing it.

Now let me say, I much prefer strip chess, but you didn’t ask about that, so… In my youth we generally played draw poker when playing strip poker although I do remember playing five-card stud once.
You are trusted for the ante, but have to toss it in if you lose. Generally we had one bet after the cards were delt and drawn (no raising-although we did allow raising in one game, but the game went awfully fast and half the fun of stip poker is the suspense).
I have played where players were allowed to wear “won” clothing and other times when they were not. If the game is just an excuse to get naked don’t allow it, but for good laughs allow it.
We occasionally play strip poker in our house and the rules we play by are:
-
Everyone starts with an equal number of articles. Count jewelry, glasses, etc until everyone is even.
-
Rotating dealers, dealer’s choice. The best seem to be 5 card straight, 5 card draw or casino. Wild cards are allowed.
-
Lowest hand removes something of their choosing.
-
Highest hand gets nothing but the relief (or frustration) in not having to take something off.
-
Soon, somebody is nekkid. If that person loses a hand, they are dared to do something by the highest hand.
-
Eventually, everyone is nekkid. Then it is straight dare poker, high hand daring low hand to do something.
-
Any dare involving bodily contact with another is limited to 30 seconds.
Never had a complaint yet about house rules during one of our poker parties:)
An interesting variation can be done with a rule that says that the winner (high hand) gets to remove an article of clothing from one of the losers…
This is at least the second thread we’ve had on the subject… But that’s OK, we can always use more threads about nekkid people.
Dress Up Poker can yield a lot of laughs. The winner has to make the losers wear ridiculous things…it’s very hard to keep a straight face when you’re sitting across from a friend wearing a half slip around her face and a pair of headphones.
Yeah, that’ll work.
“Okay…Foggy has three queens; Bat has a straight to the jack; Squint has an king-high club flush…sorry, guys! I got four aces! Read 'em and weep!”
I just find it sad/amusing that the OP had an opportunity to play strip poker and ended up hunched over a keyboard all night. I say, make up some frickin’ rules!
