Stupid liberal idea of the day

No, this is pretty much what you get. Haberdash posts a premise that he knows in advance is unlikely to be agreed with, then follows up with a series of increasingly shrill, accusatory responses that completely mischaracterize any arguments that, to no one’s surprise, happen to disagree.

The progressosphere media shouldn’t have engaged in a cryfest over the last three days that demonstrated their psychological shattering over the notion of Obama being asked a question about his foreign policy, up to and including Bill Maher’s tweet, widely celebrated in mainstream outlets, that outright stated “a reporter asking the President a question is literally the same thing as calling him a nigger.”

And air traffic controllers.

So, that line of argument about Obama needing to grow a pair and to stop looking for a fainting couch when he faces reporters… you’re dropping that part? You no longer want to engage on that topic, and instead want to engage on the topic of whether Bill Maher is an ass? Because I think a lot of us would probably agree with you on that one. Bill Maher is an ass.

I would like to see more evidence of a widespread “cryfest” as opposed to people just having a heated argument, though.

North Korea has the bomb?

I’m glad someone is finally stating it outright. It doesn’t matter whether criticism of Obama is based on disagreeing with his policies, or white supremacy. It doesn’t matter whether it’s based on something true (like the drone program) or something made up (like him being a Marxist). It doesn’t matter whether the motivation is a sincere belief that there is a better way to advance American interests than what Obama is doing, or partisan politics, or racism. It doesn’t matter. All criticism of Obama is unacceptable and prima facie evidence of mental illness, and the Party of Rational Adults simply isn’t going to stand for it. They don’t really care whether it’s true or not, or whether it’s coming from a reasonable place or not. They’re going to shout “racist” at it and refuse to allow cognitive dissonance to pierce their mental shrine to Dear Leader. It doesn’t matter.

It takes a lot more courage to engage in a real debate with an opposing position than to pander to the “Obama Destroys Racist Critic” clickbait media with a pre-scripted zinger. This applies just as well to Ronald Reagan, Lloyd Bentsen, David Cameron, and every other politician who thinks getting a laugh from his base constitutes an argument. Obama doesn’t have the courage to do this. And his supporters, by letting him know they will destroy anyone who dissents from him on his behalf, are letting him know he never needs to develop it.

… that’s not how they got it.

It’s taken me a lot of time to read through this thread (so I don’t duplicate something said 4 (!) years ago) so I could get to the point that responding to a post won’t make me look like I lost the keys to the WayBack machine…

“Asking what’s up with the American hostages in Iran” would be something like this: “What is your plan for returning the hostages in Iran?” The question he tried to trap the President (not The One, not Emperor Obama, not Lord High Almighty of the Several Universes, etc.) with was more along the lines of “Why don’t you tell us how happy it makes you to ignore the American hostages in Iran?”

My other comment has to do with Haberdash’s use of the term “Obamabot.” This was a term that a non-Haberdash poster used to lampoon H’s use of slurs to paint Democrats in general, reagrdless of their support or lack thereof of the President.

Now you’ve gone and given him another snarky way to refer to those to which hse has no response other than another ad hominem attack.

Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Yes yes, he didn’t follow proper deferential protocol when addressing the God-King. He should have crawled to the podium on all fours with his head down until addressed, like the other reporters do. We know.

That may be true, but I put NK squarely in the “batshit crazy” category and Iran, despite Bush’s “Axis of Evil” tag, is simply a religious theocracy we disagree with. Even still, those 4 people should not have been bargaining chips we were willing to concede terms to Iran for. In the grand scheme of things, they are not important.

Too easy.

But it’s racist to imply that your god thinks the same way you do.

Thanks, Elvis.

Dude, get up, walk around and breath a little. Those last few posts are completely incoherent.

I have trouble following your argument. You’re saying that Obama expected a reporter to ask about the hostages, and his pre-scripted zinger was “that’s nonsense, and you should know better”? That was his scripted zinger, delivered a second before he went into detail about why he thought it was wrong to link the topic of hostages to the topic of nukes? Obama did not run from the question. He answered it.

And, in what way did his supporters “destroy” Garret? Has he been fired? Is someone calling for a boycott? Are there protesters outside his office? Has a radio host spent the past several days calling him a slut? Bill Maher called him a name on Twitter, I grant you that. Who has been destroyed?

ETA: By the way, Obama can deliver a zinger. The guy can be funny and skewer people. Ask Donald Trump. If his halting, trying-hard-to-be-nice response to Garret was a zinger, it was not up to his usual standards.

I’ve decided to switch my worship from Obama to Haberdash. All hail his uber-objectivity! All hail his ability to read the minds of liberals! All hail his political world-view that just so happens to match right-wing talking points! All hail HABERDASH! May his worshipfulness prosper and smite the false god Obama!

You really think “that’s nonsense, and you should know better” is a substantive answer to a question and not a planned attempt to get pageviews on HuffPo? OK, whatever.

Make sure to polish your framed Obama picture before sundown.

No, the substantive response was what came right after the terrible zinger. The part where Obama outlined his rationale for not linking the two topics. Did you watch that part? The part where he answered the question. Or did you stop after the “nonsense” part?

You’re a fucking idiot.

In case this isn’t a woosh, yes they have had it for a number of years

Yep,pretty much. A good deal is one where hard liners on both sides are unhappy.

ETA: ninja’d by Elvis. Spent to long reading about the history of North Koreas Nuclear program and not enough time typing.
