“Nobody is content, and our diplomats and our teams are working diligently to try to get them out,” he added. “Now, if the question is why we did not tie the negotiations to their release, think about the logic that that creates. Suddenly Iran realizes, ‘You know what? Maybe we can get additional concessions out of the Americans by holding these individuals.”
He concluded by noting that the Iranian deal was entirely unconnected from the administration’s efforts to secure the release of these prisoners. “If we had walked away from the nuclear deal, we’d still be pushing them just as hard to get these folks out,” he said. “That’s why those issues are not connected.”

“that’s nonsense, and you should know better”, was a proper response to the accusation that Obama was “content” with the fact of American Hostages held in Iran. Of course he’s not content, who would be? and Garret should have known better.
As bad as Helen Thomas was, I don’t recall that she ever said that Bush was content with the number of American troops killed in Iraq.
He might as well have come out and asked Obama “Mr. president why do you hate America?”
Yeah, but you’ll notice Obama never did explain why he hates America. And the lapdog press didn’t even attempt to call him on it.
I only hope someday Haberdash finagles his way into a job as a White House Correspondent. We need someone who can ask the hard questions, the ones that make you sit back and say to yourself, “Er, wut?”
But it “doesn’t matter” how he phrased the question. All criticism of Obama is racist. Even if the Obamazombies hadn’t come out and explicitly said this above, we’d know it from their rhetoric of the past seven years – it’s not like you would ever approve of someone just saying “I don’t think the way Obama is handling the prisoner situation is ideal,” either. All criticism of Obama is racist.
The full text of the press conference is here. Obama’s answer to Garret’s question about the hostages is:
You might not like the answer; you might think he made the wrong call; you might think he smells bad. But he did give a reasoned answer to the question.
I don’t happen to think that “something we want from Iran” has nothing to do with a negotiation with Iran, nor do I think that the existing Iran deal has anything to do “negotiation” when to all appearances it’s “giving Iran a blank check to do whatever they want with their nuclear program while dropping sanctions anyway.” It’s amusing that Obama thinks there are “additional concessions” that Iran could have gotten – like what, a basket of puppies every day?
It’s an answer tailored to the target audience of people who have to defend the Iran capitulation because taking talking points from Gawker is easier than reading what’s actually in the deal or considering becoming a racist by disagreeing with Obama.
Uh, the widely publicized accounts of nuclear tests they’ve done? I’ll grant you they may not have something they can stick on a missile (yet), but they have a nuclear device.
Help me out here. I’ve searched through the last 200 posts, and the only mention of racism, other than your straw-men allegations, was directed at the founder of the KKK. So what are you talking about?
You made an extremely uninformed allegation about Obama, and you were corrected by Dopers posting his full answer, which clearly showed that only the Fox News faithful could claim he gave Garrett an answer with no substance. Instead of saying, “Thanks, I was wrong,” you said switched over to claiming people are calling you racist for questioning Obama.
Although not conclusive, that is a strong indicator of being a dumb fuck.
I’ll put it much more broadly: It is racist to ask a black president questions about his Americanism where white presidents have faced the same issues and not been made to seem Unamerican.
I’ll give you examples of non-racist ways to attack Obama and racist ways:
Non-racist
Obama’s economic policies are bad because they miscalculate growth
Obama cannot relate to small towns because he’s a city liberal
Obama’s foreign policy relies on the false assumption that Iran is being truthful
Racist
Obama’s giving handout to his urban cronies
Obama cannot relate to small towns because he’s a Kenyan Socialist Foreigner
Obama wants to help his Muslim friends over our Jewish allies
And just like you can’t say the N-word to a black person if you’re white, it doesn’t matter if white presidents have faced these same attacks. The same tactic when used against a black man is different than if used against a white man. I know that just tears you up and you wanna scream “entitlement freedom cowboy!” at the top of your lungs, but that’s reality, get over it, stop being racist. There’s plenty of ways to attack Obama, truthful or not. Simply never mention anything about being Muslim, a foreigner, or Kenyan. Otherwise, get used to everyone calling you a racist
Here’s what Garrett should have said, had he not been a racist: “Mr. President, what steps, if any, were taking to secure the release of 4 Americans held in Iran as part of this deal?” Leave out the word “content” and “conscience” and “strength” of “this nation”. It makes Obama sound like he’s celebrating and not part of this nation, which is what Garrett was going for and what you fell for
Yup, I can just think of all the legitimate engagement with these points that doesn’t rely on accusations of racism or heresy against the God-Emperor that has come from the Obamabots in the last seven years.
There seems to be some dissent in the ranks – septimus is vocalizing the unspoken id of the rest of the Obamadrones in the thread by explicitly stating that it “doesn’t matter” how or why you criticize Obama, it’s simply unacceptable to do so. Maybe you two should get together for a rousing game of Who’s The Racist?
No one actually called him a nigger. Bill Maher tweeted that asking about his Iran policy is the same thing as calling him a nigger. Not only have progressosphere sources been trumpeting their agreement with this sentiment, apparently you are now actually hearing people “saying the N-word to a black person” when they are in fact saying “I disagree with Obama.”
So again we come to the typical Obama-brained response where, after huffing and puffing about how they definitely don’t write off any and all criticism of Obama as racist, they just can’t resist adding in “this person who made no reference to race and asked a question about an issue that has no relevance to black-white relations in America is, definitionally, a racist, because he asked Obama a question.” You just can’t help yourselves.
Noo…hatters have some occasional connection to reality. Haberdash has dived off the deep end and is dog-paddling around with people who wear their underpants on their heads and those who drool in their pudding.
