Stupid liberal idea of the day

Whatever did happen to Ducati?

He was done.

At least two posters on this message board think that public nudity should be a civil right.

Just because no one wants to see you naked…

How the fuck is “nudity” a stupid liberal idea. I came to this thread late, but I’m guessing it’s hundreds of posts of you and your ilk decrying anything you don’t like or that annoys you as a “stupid liberal idea” and thousands of posts pointing out how stupid you sound. Maybe we can get the thread title changed: Stupid Conservatives Call Things They Don’t Like Stupid Liberal Ideas.

Are there actually any stupid liberal ideas somewhere in the thread? There are stupid liberal ideas, but has anyone actually brought one up?

There have been a few. Mostly not any that Humpy has posted (99% of which turn out to either not be liberal or not be stupid when the full context is revealed) and the few that exist have mostly been posted by liberals themselves, but there are some.

There’s several legitimate Stupid Liberal Ideas. Almost all posted by a resident liberal.

Our resident Conservatives seem uninterested in posting here.

Over in the SRIOTD, there are thousands of posts about politicians and major media figures: people who actually have power and influence. But when Clothahump and others drop in here, they more often post about some incredibly minor thing done by some rando or some adolescent in a little liberal arts college. It’s like: Bob Menendez? Never heard of him. Some anonymous Irishman writes a book about Trump? This Means War!! Way to keep your eyes on the ball guys.

Lisa Bloom has resigned as Harvey Weinstein’s attorney. By my count, the last remaining person on Earth who wants Weinstein to keep his job is now adaher.

Claiming that public nudity is a civil right is beyond stupid. It makes a mockery of those who have fought hard (and sometimes died) for actual civil rights.

Nobody said it was a major concern. Explain why it’s can’t be a civil right.

Explain why it should be.

First, read the thread. It was posed as a hypothetical as a “what if this was done”?
There’s little there about civil rights.

Second, you believe it shouldn’t be a civil right. You made the claim, you back it up.

The guiding principle for guys like Clothahump is false equivalency. It helps to make up for the staggering imbalance in actual stupid ideas.

Because I don’t think the government should be able to tell me what to wear. Or not to wear.

There are plenty of countries in the world where you can get punished for wearing a tee-shirt supporting the wrong candidate or idea. Lots of places where a woman not wearing a veil will get acid thrown on her face. I don’t want that in the USA.

There are already plenty of sensible regulations requiring sanitary/safety clothing for specific occupations, like food service workers, or hard hats for construction workers, or rubber gloves for surgeons. Those would still apply even if nudity was allowed.

And the laws about lewd conduct would still apply to ‘perving’ in public. (Their physical reaction might make it even easier to show that he wasn’t just accidentally brushing against you in a crowded bus.)

Personally, I wouldn’t be nude – because I’m old & fat & out-of-shape (and here in Minnesota, for about 2/3rds of the year it would be too dang cold). And I’d probably look away quickly from a lot of people if they were nude. But they should have the right to wear whatever they want, even nothing.

NYC has an annual topless parade. It’s debatable whether there are more topless parade marchers or pathetic men with cell phones to photograph them for…reasons. Someone should photograph the guys photographing the women, cross-reference them on all the dating sites and mark the profiles “UNDATEABLE”.

D’Anconia, you still didn’t explain why it is a liberal idea. It’s just something you don’t like - doesn’t make it liberal.

The Fairness Doctrine has often been regarded as a Stupid Liberal Idea by conservatives.

And the latest pusher of this idea (OK, not the exact idea, but close enough) is none other than Donald J. Trump, who is demanding Equal Time on the late-night comedy shows.

This is actually a great idea! I’m looking forward to Dems getting equal time on Fox News and on right-wing talk radio. That’s gonna be so cool.

That thread was nowhere as serious as you made it out to be. They were just being silly.

Besides, even if they were serious, it’s just some anonymous faces on the internet who can’t make their thoughts into law and lack the influence to do so. Why are you so afraid of them?

I have to say that, as much of a jerk as Weinstein has been, those on the right have zero traction on sexual issues. It is the pinnacle of hypocritical double standards when you look at the vile scum that they have thrown their support behind. I am all for criticizing misogynists and grabby pervs, but you simply cannot make it a political/ideological issue.

I agree. But on the other hand, it highlights liberal hypocrisy. Support for women in large groups, but covering for men who victimize them individually. We see the same thing with racial discrimination.

Our national debate is becoming religious in nature. Everyone wags their finger but doesn’t change their personal behavior. We even have dispensations now! Fly in a private jet, plant a tree, you’re good!
