I can’t square this with your earlier statement that you don’t want Weinstein to be fired either. I have no idea who knew what about his behavior before this week, but now that it’s out in the open, people are running from him. Almost everyone in this thread is criticizing him. But I can’t pin down your view of him and what should be done about him. Help me out.

Because personal autonomy in one’s choice of habiliment among other matters of personal behavior is arguably a cornerstone of the right to privacy (or, if that offends you for some reason, Justice Brandeis’s prescription “the right to be left alone”). Many liberals AND conservatives (although far fewer reactionaries, such as you) support the enshrinement of the right to privacy as a civil right. There is precious little justification for dismissing the concept of personal privacy as a civil right with ridicule, and a great deal of justification for including personal autonomy as a legitimate subset of personal privacy.
Now, I’m sure we would all be fascinated to learn your arguments for the preposterousness of privacy and autonomy as civil rights. Or, if you’re not prepared to offer any at this time, an argument for why personal choice of habiliment (which includes degree of same) is subject to ridicule when considered a subset of the latter.
