Stupid liberal idea of the day

Actually, I think the woman was a conservative who thought Mr. Humps sad raggedy-ass lawnmower made it look like Mexicans lived in the neighborhood.

Real world champs? Sorry to bust your bubble, RC, but a world champ is a world champ. Deal with it.

As far as the Olympics go, it was just announced about two months ago. I have no idea who is going to try for it, or even who might be invited to try for it.

Big fish in a little bitty pond.

When did one person become “liberal media”?

Honestly I’m not with you on this one. An organization with international schools has it’s own tournaments and proclaims it’s own world champs. Which is significantly better than just national organizations (NFL, NBL, MLB) proclaiming their champion ‘world’ champion.

It’s all small ponds, my dear.

Are there leagues in other countries that compete at the same level as the MLB, NFL or NBA?
In Taekwondo(and many other sports) there’s a World Championship (outside of the ATA) open to the best in the world. Ditto for the Olympics.

Sigh. No.

I don’t know where you are trying to go with this. You seem to think that there is only one “world champ”. You are incorrect. I suggest you stop now and perhaps educate yourself on the differences of the sanctioning body requirements.

Baseball, for one. The Japanese have their own league, Cuba and several south American countries have theirs.

Football. Canadian Football League, anyone?

Not really the same level though. Japanese ball is probaby a little better than American AAA, but not really major league levell. CFL isn’t even close to the NFL talentwise. Cuba is a special case because Cuba could trap their players to some extent. Same with the Soviets. Their hockey teams could beat NHL teams easily back in the day. And I’m sure Negro League teams were just as good as white Major League baseball teams in the first half of the 20th century.

But in a free world market, the American leagues are simply the place you play for most team sports. Soccer seems to be the lone exception.

Odd when you consider how lavishly we pay our pro soccer players, compared to the meager support they get overseas.

And the basic point here is that an international organization crowns their own “world champion”. Period. Hardly matters if running coach thinks they’re a small pond or not. They are the champion of ‘the world’ for that organization, which encompasses more than a single nation. By means of that fact alone, they have a better claim to that sort of title than any American only sports league.

I regularly host domino tournaments to crown the Champion of the Universe. It’s not my fault if I only get two or three entrants, I’m currently the god damn dominos Champion of the Universe!

Well, there is that one sport that seems to be absurdly popular just about everywhere else in the world but you would be lucky (I use the word a little sarcastically) to find a game in the US.

???
What sport is that???

Curious about this myself - if it’s not soccer, cricket comes to mind, but that’s not popular everywhere but the U.S. It seems popular mainly in some former British Empire countries, and not even all of them. I’ve never seen a cricket match in Canada, for example.

Stupid liberal idea - getting sidetracked into a discussion of Taekwondo world championships.

Hyperbole.

Wear the medal proudly!

You do know this thread was never really about “liberal ideas”, right? It’s for attention whoring and the fact that it’s full of weak sauce (especially the bits about lawn mowing) is my cite.

Tae Kwan Do is Chuck Norris. Pretty much says it all.
