Remember these are people who let their thinking be driven by amygdala, not frontal cortex. Because they let fear and disgust override cognition, they honestly believe that semantic tripe like “All lives matter” has poked a hole in their opponents’ case.
I’ve seen such cognitive disconnect many times, with conservatives showing manifest sincerity. You can see it in the GD thread, with ITR champion responding to teaching only with non sequiturs.
(I started to comment on Lemur866’s post in the GD thread; then worried that suggesting some Dopers may suffer cognitive disconnect was out of bounds.)
