Stupid Republican idea of the day

Ted Cruz vows to repeal legislation that doesn’t exist.

Common Core isn’t Federal legislation, dick-hole. It’s a state-by-state agreement.

With that, I have hit 42,000 posts, at least half of them in this thread! Yea, me. If it wasn’t for Republican stupidity, BtVS and beer, I’d still be a lurker!

Oh, since I’m too sick to go to work but not too sick to be bored…here’s the first 8 pages (thru June 2009 basically)-- maybe I’ll shoot for more tomorrow. I didn’t do categories.

Kind of interesting in retrospect:

  47. First whispers that King Obama and his cult plan on ruling past 2016

After 20,000 posts, I think I have the winner for stupidest idea ever:
Mittens is going to fight Evander Holyfield.

“It will either be a very short fight, or I will be knocked unconscious,” Romney quipped in an interview recently.

I don’t think he knows what “or” means.

I have no love for Romney, but that sounds like a good thing. Clown around, pretend-fight Holyfield, raise money for medical care for underserved people. Sounds like a slightly goofy event, but if you can help people get medical care by making a fool of yourself, I say have at it.

Romney got a lot of people in Massachusetts medical care by being serious about it. Too bad he gave it up.

Hmmm.

So, how about a system where the GOP presidential campaign for 2016 pledges an amount equal to the cost of the primary campaign to go to insurance exchange subsidies?

From the Raw Story link:

Yes, let’s avoid going to school on Jewish holidays by going to school on Saturday.

(Post shortened in dismay)

Ann? OCD kills.

Oh yeah I agree. Guy’s an idiot and an empty suit. I just think making fun of him for “fighting” Holyfield is a bit unfair. It’s a silly publicity stunt, and he could probably put his fame to more effective use, but it sounds like a decent cause. Shrug.

Democratic governor Kate Brown of Oregon signs into law a first ever automatic voter registration law for her state. But that’s not the stupid part. The stupid part is apparently every single Republican voted against it. Their stated reason was that yada yada yada, it puts voters’ private information at risk, which even sounds idiotic when you realize the information would come from already existing DMV records

I think this law is quite an ingenious plan. It doesn’t cover everyone, but it may reduce the need for those long voter registration drives somewhat to find unregistered voters. Now if only a state that figures prominently in the presidential race does this automatically. I want the next/current Democratic governor of states like Ohio and Virginia and Florida to push this through as soon as possible! We need Democrats in those state legislatures too.

Gonna be an uphill climb, they’re stacking every deck they can get their hands on.

Man, if I had a dollar for every time those three things brought me trouble.

So you are saying that “Beer Bad”?

David “Whoremonger” Vitter poisons the anti-trafficking bill with an amendment both irrelevant and unconstitutional.

There are worse ways for people to raise money for their campaigns.

Nitpick: the island referred to in all this is Little Diomede Island (America) in the Bering Strait, which is about 2.5 miles from Big Diomede Island (Russia). The International Dateline runs between them, making travel into the future by kayak possible.

It would be a very good thing is the anti-trafficking act gets totally sandbagged and does not pass. It’s a very bad bill that criminalizes prostitutes. It will do a lot more harm than good. It will just put more women in jail for a victimless crime. I’m certain Vitter was not thinking along these lines when he added his anti-immigrant legislation to the act … like most Republicans he just wanted to hurt more poor people, and thought the legislation was unstoppable so why not throw his stone into the soup, too?

[standing ovation]

I applaud your courage! And salute a fellow obsessive.

Even worse, however, McConnell won’t allow a vote on Loretta Lynch’s USAG confirmation until the anti-trafficking bill is passed.

Now you’re talking! That is a stupid and corrupt Republican idea. Fuck Mike Huckabee.
