Stupid Republican idea of the day

Opponents of choice are upset that Planned Parenthood of San Antonio is upgrading to meet the new requirements the opponents supported.

Same thing happening in Wisconsin.
Board of Commissioners of Public Lands bans staff from climate change work

When you see crazy stuff like this and the bans on discussion rising sea levels, etc., across a number of states one can’t help but think there is some sort of ALEC initiative.

Maybe if they ban the terms “Global warming” and “sea level rise”, in enough states, temps will decline and the waters recede.

The next thing we know, there will be a House Bill calling for bans on the following terms/words:
ISIS, Islamic Terrorism, WMDs, income redistribution, oil spills, Russian aggression, and racism.

Yep, that’ll end those problems.

And more: Bill O’Reilly references debunked statistics to prove black men aren’t disproportionately killed by cops.

Why end what you can monetize? The point of talking down climate change talk is to make sure the masses and the government are unprepared, so a well-capitalized consultancy can make all the monies from both private and state clients when things go to pot. Presumably at least some politicians understand this and are hoping for a job with such a corporation after they’re term-limited out.

The cited article says this:

What???

The sole mission of the state Commission of Public Lands is to “make money for our beneficiaries”???
In other places the Commissioner is head of the state DEpartment of Natural Resources, and is also tasked with seeing that the value of that land is maintained:

This isn’t just stupid, it’s truly Orwellian. In Florida, disagreement with political authority is now considered a mental illness.

Did that in Soviet Russia. If you were unable to accept socialist realism, it was clearly a sign of a mental illness requiring treatment.

51 Republican Senators have voted to sell of National Parks for private profit.

Almost. The amendment covers all federal land not in National Parks, Monuments or Preserves, which basically covers NFS and BLM lands. The amendment would hand the real estate over to the states – in a revenue-neutral transaction. So that the states can privatize it, because they are oh eversomuch smarter about that stuff.

The parks will have to wait for 2017, when the Rs take full control over everything in their amazing sweep into power.

Great. Gonna go fishing in Lake Walmart. You know, there in the foothills of the Citigroup Mountains…

I fully trust that there won’t be any “sweetheart” deals when the states privatize the land. You are all getting worked up over nothing.

If you really want to stop this, convince President Obama to endorse the transfer.

Does that mean the states pay the Fed the value of the land…or that the Fed cedes the land without payment at all?

One of those. Actual text:
SEC. ___. SPENDING-NEUTRAL RESERVE FUND RELATING TO THE DISPOSAL OF CERTAIN FEDERAL LAND. The Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate may revise the allocations of a committee or committees, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in this resolution for one or more bills, joint resolutions, amendments, amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports relating to initiatives to sell or transfer to, or exchange with, a State or local government any Federal land that is not within the boundaries of a National Park, National Preserve, or National Monument, by the amounts provided in such legislation for those purposes, provided that such legislation would not raise new revenue and would not increase the deficit over either the period of the total of fiscal years 2016 through 2020 or the period of the total of fiscal years 2016 through 2025.

Tea Party hires actors for a protest.
They’re “protesting” what they call a land grab by the South Florida Water Management District, which is considering purchasing 46,000 acres of land that is currently owned by US Sugar and residents. The intent is to restore that part of the Everglades in order to remediate farm runoff.

The video of the protest is hilarious. The protestors sing “This Land is Your Land”, which of course would be much more appropriate if they were protesting in favor of the purchase. Then, seemingly on cue, they all put down their signs and applaud as a man sets fire to a pile of fake money to symbolize “Miami burning $2 billion”.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner eliminates funding for services for people with autism - on World Autism Day.

That is a constitutional amendment that was approved by about 75% of Florida voters last fall. The all-Republican state administration is trying to find other things to spend the money on.

South Carolina’s Attorney General says that the Constitution allows the state to discriminate against gays because it allows the state to discriminate against women.

I went back to the first page and feel I am safe saying that the Republicans have gotten dumber and crazier in the past six years. They are wallowing in their crazy stupidity, and trying to top each other. Once I was a Republican, but that ship sailed 40 years ago.

Me too, but mine burned down, fell over and sank in the swamp.

Well, you shouldn’t have tried to build a ship in a swamp!

Which is, come to think of it, an apt metaphor for the Southern Strategy. Lincoln would weep.
