The text of your link (and of the bill itself) directly contradicts your assertion:

Include the provisions of 2015 AB 118 to permit an employee to state in writing that he or she voluntarily chooses to work without one day of rest in seven.

So it has to be voluntary; it’s totally not something an employer can require.

Yeah, I’m sure if this passes it’ll be totally voluntary, with no employer’s firing or threatening to fire any employ who declines to “volunteer” for 7 day work weeks. Surely the bill will include stiff sanctions for any employer who coerces or attempts to coerce an employee, right?

As a side note, I watched a video on China’s “gutter oil” problem, where street vendors and low-end restaurants cook their food in carcinogenic bio-oils that are literally dredged from the gutters and sewers. One funny comment: “Dear Libertarians: this is how a totally free market actually works.” That only tangentially applies to Rand Paul’s philosophy but it made me laugh (and I don’t know where else to share that anecdote), so there you go.

I’ve heard about that too. And now the Free Market of Texas can work that way also. Texas Supreme Court rules against workplace and consumer safety regulations, in favor of The Free Market.

But threaders didn’t like all that training—so they asked the Texas Supreme Court to simply strike the regulation down. In late June, the court obliged. It granted itself the power to strike down any health and safety laws it deems “oppressive.”

The startling decision revives a dangerous, widely discredited doctrine that gives judges authority to strike down economic regulations that interfere with the free market. By resuscitating it, the Texas Supreme Court has effectively declared that laissez-faire capitalism is the only true form of American liberty.

Maine Governor Paul LePage apparently doesn’t understand how pocket vetos work and ended up allowing bills he opposed to pass.

LePage attempts to ‘pocket veto’ remaining bills

On Tuesday, the state’s revisor of statutes, Suzanne Gresser, confirmed 19 bills had not been returned to her office by LePage after the 10-day timeframe for LePage to veto or sign the legislation had passed. Without having taken any action, the bills should have returned to Gresser to be chaptered — the official process for becoming law.

When asked about the delay, LePage spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett pointed to a section from “ Maine’s Path of Legislation,” a publication by the clerk of the House and secretary of the Senate, which outlined the process of the pocket veto.

If a Legislature is in session and the governor does not sign a bill or veto it within 10 days of receiving it, the bill becomes law. But, if a Legislature adjourns for the year before the 10-day window for a governor to act on legislation has elapsed and the governor does not sign the bill, it dies.

The only hangup is the Legislature has not adjourned. Knowing it needed to give LePage up to 10 days to act on bills it has passed, the House and Senate on June 30 went “at ease” until July 16. By then, LePage would have had to act.
