Three of those four “disqualifying” descriptors were UNsuccessfully attributed to the President; the word “socialist” has been embraced by Sanders.
I guess “pot smoker” has already lost any potency it may have once had.

I’d be very gratified to learn that the word " socialist" has had sufficient half-lives elapse for it to stop being an effective bludgeon for the Pubbies.
Could happen; sure, but I don’t think we should sit around doing nothing and assuming it will.
I have the solution to all the world’s problems in my garage. Unfortunately, it involves connecting a hose to the exhaust pipe.
That’s not carbon neutral.
I dunno, it’ll put plenty of carbon in the ground. Sequestration, burial same same.
I just bought a place with a garage. I do have to work a lot and don’t have a lot of free time, but that is because I am good at my job and they need me pretty bad sometimes-I paid my student debt long ago. I am working on the problem of climate change- I haven’t yet fully moved into the place with the garage yet, I am doing this from my home office- and one priority I have identified is to not elect a Republican president.
Sorry, there are only two candidates I notice so far who are not $multi-million political robots: Trump and Sanders. Trump really really is a Republican. If he weren’t running for president himself to impose a self-interested agenda, he’d be a donor regimenting this or that pubbie candidate to march to the conservative orders. Doing it himself, Trump can be himself and say anything, do anything. He makes the rest of his field look like a bunch of staid chumps. He is literally who the GOP represents.
Sanders is also a free man. He isn’t a PAC baby, he is a fucking socialist running for president of the USA. He says what he thinks, and he has the best ideas from the perspective of the majority of citizens in this country, especially the poor and downtrodden. Don’t count Sanders out. His gun control policies seem derived directly from surveillance tapes of my phone conversations with my new gf in Arkansas who owns 20+ long guns and usually votes R but is totally cool and hot at the same time. Urban vs. rural. Long guns vs. handguns. Hunting and subsistence vs. threat to the public. Gun safety vs. gun crime. There ya go, that is the whole issue right there folks.
For some reason, the GOP advocates for the wrong position on all these issues.
Oops. :smack:
I recall a story told by (IIRC) the late William Tenn about how his superior officer in the Army warned him to be wary of professors and journalists because “they’re all socialists”.
His takeaway from this was that if the best-educated and best-informed people were socialists, there might be something to it.
Surprising that he would risk his “reg’lar folks” credentials by using a fancy-schmancy word like “nuance,” isn’t it?
Especially since he couldn’t bring himself to say multi-syllable and now I think he’ll ban words like buttcrack and firecraker.
C’mon, he’s a Bush… it’s not like there’s a lot of thinking going’ on in there.
Nuance? That sounds like a French word. You don’t suppose…?
I just read an article on the NYT that discusses how conservative action groups are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on how to best portray Hillary as a rich elitist. The irony burns, of course. Do they not see the obvious counter to such a campaign?
W. made it on the goofball-dumbfuck platform, so they are trying to leverage that again, since the stolid Papa Zomney strategery fell so short. Sadly for them, it looks a lot like the goofball part has gone missing, all the have left is dumbfuckery. Not sure how the raw, unadulterated stoopid will play a capella.
She has lived her entire life without dignity, so you really can’t expect her to understand Death with Dignity, can you?
Beg your pardon : the Republican are rich populists !
Is there such a thing as a “big syllable”? Aren’t they short pretty much by definition?
This is of course part of the whole playing to their base thing. The base being uneducated and proud of it!
