Stupid Republican idea of the day

He got out of bed …

How about the tweet he sent right after(right after blaming a staffer)?

Meh. They’re still his backers, obviously.

Whining aside, getting rid of the filibuster rule is for the best.

Eh, it’s fodder for another thread to be sure, but what the hell. The weak but visceral argument would be “what goes around comes around, fuckwads” ; but for more thoughtful fare I genuinely think that a political system as fundamentally broken as that of the US actually *needs *the filibuster. Since y’alls only have the two parties a majority by either in both houses would otherwise amount to a de facto dictature with one side of the population/lobbies getting **all **of the legislative representation, and the other side getting sweet fuck all (or worse, if the side in power is ornery enough). That’s not good democracy, and no way to reach any sort of compromise.

And, sure, the President could then veto - but each veto costs a lot in political capital and trust. I shouldn’t expect a President who vetoed 100% of what comes out of Congress would last very long in the big chair.

With the filibuster in the worst that can happen is nothing much happening. That’s strictly better than harmful, one-sided, partisan legislation happening.

I’m not sure if this one counts. This is the lawyer for the Republican, not the Republican himself:

Staffers prosecuted for allegedly hiding payoffs to a (now former) Iowa state Senator for his endorsement of Ron Paul.

I think Matthew McConaughey really does love his Lincoln. That’s why I think so much less of him than I might otherwise.

Mike Huckabee tweets:

Mike’s very next tweet:

Quite apart from the variable views on racism, does he really want to bring up dog safety given the story about his son killing a dog at camp?

Cheap pot shots at foreign countries? Yep, real presidential material there

Racism exists because we have sin? How does that work?

Ok that one has pretty straight Christian theology roots - everything bad in the world happens because sin entered the world in The Fall From Eden.

But that’s a problem of the Universe, not of America.

How in blazes something like that can be addressed through policy is an exercise for the student.

 Yes, please let that be a joke. I’m getting scared.

Boy, was I confused. I actually thought that was a good idea until I realized I was thinking of Dan Savage.
:smack:

Now and again I foster some sympathy for her, she’s young and dumb like all kids are and it’s not her fault she has a famous attention whoring mother.

And she just keeps going back into it. It’s the limelight, it’s a calculated effort to grab for it and to her it is worth looking like a fool.

Then my sympathy fades.

I’m sure he means that America *today *has too much sin - what with all the gays and the abortions and the yadda yadda. But how *that *leads to racism is left as an exercise to the crazy reader. Hell, I’m shaky on my American chronology but I’m still preeeetty sure this (warning, graphic & disturbing) predates that (warning, cute as hell). And don’t get me started on the fucking Samaritans. Buncha lazy no-goodniks, them.

Yet another Republican doubles down on the “Jews didn’t do enough to prevent the Holocaust” canard;

I’m not sure what’s more shocking; that the GOP is so dedicated to guns that they’re willing to throw the Jewish lobby under the bus, or that Alan Colmes still works for Fox News after all these years.

I’m waiting for the news that she’s been using birth control the whole time she’s been preaching abstinence.

My favorite quote:
Do you remember what it was like to be a 10 year old?
Well, that’s easy for her to say – she doesn’t have to remember it; intellectually she still is a 10 year old.

Well, we have pretty certain proof that it’s not true. Though of course we have similar proof that she’s not actually abstinent herself.

Which would be more proof that sex ed is needed because she’s been using it wrong.

She’s been swallowing the aspirin instead of holding it between her knees.

There’s a riff on swallowing here that I’m just going to pass on. :stuck_out_tongue:
