Stupid Republican idea of the day

I have a somewhat vague recollection from (1950s white-bread Catholic) grade school that the Mark of Cain turned him black. So while sin in general stemmed from Adam & Eve, the fact that there are different races — and therefore racism — stemmed from the specific sin of Cain.

Which makes every bit as much sense as 98.6% of what is being spouted by GOP candidates this time around.

I kind of wondered if Huckabee was going for that. I don’t know how much people generally buy that bit of bigotry nowadays.

I’m with you. I can see the crazy logic of “if we sin, God sends hurricanes and earthquakes and Justin Bieber to America,” but I don’t even see the crazy logic behind, “if we sin, God makes us be bigoted even though we must have free will or the whole fucking Christian model of the fundamentalists goes to hell.”

Which AFAIK had never been a Catholic teaching, but is rather an old racist myth.

Which are not, of course, mutually exclusive.

Given that everyone on earth is descended from Noah, the whole racist mark of Cain thing kind of falls flat.

Isn’t it the more common myth that black skin arose out of the Curse of Ham (son of Noah)? (Which is itself a misnomer because Noah actually cursed Ham’s son Canaan.)

I thought the curse on ham was a Muslim and Jewish thing ?

I thought the story was that one of Noah’s sons saw him naked and was given to the others to be a servant, and you knew who his descendants were because they were black, and therefore all people who were black were meant to serve the descendants of the other two sons, who weren’t black, because they righteously turned their eyes away from his drunken nakedness. Or something like that.

Former Arizona GOP leader is all for the Second Amendment-- so long as blacks are disarmed.

I’d give an award to the guy who looked at a 600 year old naked man and didn’t turn away.

Former Arizona GOP head - “The best way to end the slaughter of young black men is to take guns away from blacks.”

Beat you by two minutes!

For those who, like me, suffer the temptations of curiosity…

Shut up, Ted. Just shut the fuck up.

Jan Mickelson doubles down on the pro-slavery side;

Because, you know, that makes it so much better that you’re advocating for debtor’s prisons and slave auctions.

Did you miss this one?

Bristol Palin is going to take a break from…

Bristol Palin is going to take a break from advocating Abstinence Only education and would like some privacy as she is pregnant again. She still isn’t married."

Note the “pregnant again”. Or she was doing it wrong with the birth control.

The first time, she wasn’t an abstinence advocate. Since then, she made a public promise to not have pre-marital sex ever again and made a buttload of cash promoting abstinence only education.

She was due to get married and decided to start early. The question is: Was she truly abstinent up to that point or was she secretly using birth control (and having sex) while promoting abstinence during the past few years?

So what’s the problem? I thought we were supposed to congratulate citizens for good shootin’ when they managed to nail a Jack-Booted Government Thug!

Let’s not forget that the second time, as she was promoting abstinence, she got pregnant by someone other than her fiance. At least that’s what I inferred when he dropped her like a cuckolded virgin.
