Stupid Republican idea of the day

I can confirm this, I have relatives who think in exactly this way.

Some of Carson’s stories that have come out remind me a bit of a guy that I used to work with. It took me quite a while to figure out that the coworker was telling stories of his past, not as they actually happened, but how he wished they had actually happened.

For instance, the Yale prank story. He may or may not have been registered for the class in question. He may or may not have fallen for the prank. He knew enough about the prank, though, to be able to spin a story where he comes out looking like a heroic figure doing the right thing.

Didn’t he break a guy’s femur with a broomstick once?

No, that was his wife. Morgan Fairchild.

He married Morgan Freemen? I thought he was against same sex marriage?

He married Morgana, a Fremen, in Arrakis, land of sand…

No, he married the Faerie Queen, Morgan le Faygeleh.

Carly Fiorina wants all federal agency regulations that would cost more than $100 million would have to be approved by Congress within 70 days.

That’s…idealistic. Even if one agreed with the general idea of the REINS Act, $100 000 000 is very little money for Congress, and 70 days is very little time.

I wonder how often regulations are tweaked in one way or another.

A few times a year? A few times a month? A few times a day? What does it cost to determine the economic cost of a regulatory change? Certainly that determination cannot be made for free.

Would we, overall, end up spending more by researching the cost of every little change than we would save on the ones that are prevented?

That isn’t just Carly – that legislation has been passed by the House on a few occasions. Republicans have this complete hard-on for deregulating everything which demonstrates a faith in both mankind and the invisible hand of capitalism that beggars belief. For example, every Republican candidate on the podium in last night’s debate wanted to take theDodd-Frank Act out back behind the woodshed and shoot it; apparently believing that all those bankers and mortgage brokers who came within a hair of destroying economy only 7 years ago have all evaluated the light taps on the wrists that they received and will never do it again.

And it’s always a given that the environment can always take another hit for the team. It’s not like the EPA regulations have made any difference at all between the air and water quality in the 70’s and today. Companies can be trusted to make sure that oil wells and pipelines don’t leak into aquifers, because it’s practically unheard of for corporations to put profit ahead of responsible behavior.

Honestly, Republicans are so damned trusting that I don’t understand how any of them got out of grade school without taking candy from corporate strangers in windowless vans.

You’re advocating accelerationism. I can see the appeal from a place of frustration, but it’s always struck me spiteful. Plus, it doesn’t stick. Obama was the result of a backlash against Bush and pals. Then there was a backlash against him, and America may end up with President Trump. I don’t expect Kansas or the South to turn lib anytime soon.

No, that was Tonya Harding, and it was a girl’s leg, and it wasn’t her femur … otherwise, exactly right!

Isn’t that how you become a Republican in the first place?

You went all the way back to Love Canal for an example when the Enron debacle is still fresh?

Chris Christie says no Presidential candidate should meet with BlackLivesMatter.

Pander all you like, Christie, you’re still not gonna break out of the undercard debates.

But they should meet with Reverend Puss-y Sores?

Donald Trump speaking on the “War on Christmas”:
